After the runaway success of Criminal Justice last year, Hotstar Specials launched the next chapter in the franchise titled Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors. Actor Pankaj Tripathi is reprising his role as one of India’s most loved characters Madhav Mishra, who has returned for what is deemed as the toughest case of his career. The prime accused Anu Chandra (Kirti Kulhari) has confessed to stabbing her husband, an eminent lawyer - Bikram Chandra and is guilty in the eyes of law. While many believe it to be an open-and-shut case, Anu’s subsequent silence and unwillingness to defend herself begs the question - is there more to the case than what meets the eye? The show has received high praise, and the powerful dialogues by Madhav Mishra have caught the attention of the audiences. Here’s a look at some of those iconic dialogues delivered flawlessly by Pankaj Tripathi.

 1.  “Emotional nahi mangta mereko”

In the opening episode of Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors, the quirky lawyer Madhav Mishra is seen spending the first night of his marriage with his wife when he gets a call regarding Anu Chandra’s  case. As he sets off to leave for the station, his mother tries stopping the newly-wed but Madhav Mishra’s only response is, “Emotional nahi mangta mereko”. The dialogue is one of just many times that Madhav Mishra will make you smile even if he fights what’s deemed as the toughest case of his career.

2. “Jab usko lawyer chahiye hi nahi toh mujhe selfie kheechne ke liye bulaya hai?”
Upon reaching the police station, Madhav Mishra finds out that Anu Chandra has already confessed to the murder. He then asks the investigating officer Raghu Salian, “Jab usko lawyer chahiye hi nahi toh mujhe selfie kheechne ke liye bulaya hai?”. Officer Salian explains to him that no one else would fight this case as it means going against the lawyer community, and that he suspects that there is more to this case than what meets the eye. This is a crucial scene where the investigating officers hands Madhav Mishra the responsibility of fighting for Anu Chandra.

3. “Ladh bhi raha hun aur bhidh bhi raha hun”

Madhav Mishra is aware that Anu Chandra has confessed to stabbing her husband, and he knows that putting up a fight in court against the top lawyers representing Bikram Chandra, will be an uphill battle. Yet, he decides to take-up the case, and do everything possible to make sure justice prevails. When Anu Chandra’s father asks Madhav Mishra if he is willing to represent the prime accused, he says, Ladh bhi raha hun aur bhidh bhi raha hun”. The dialogue is a testament to Madhav Mishra’s bravery and determination to fight for Anu Chandra despite all odds.

 4. “Pati, patni aur woke”

Used to living alone, lawyer Madhav Mishra isn’t very happy when his wife Ratna decides to join him in Mumbai. While living together takes some adjustments, the couple eventually comes around. The two share a sweet moment when Madhav Mishra finally decides to sleep in the same bed as her after seven months of marriage. When she asks him what he is doing, he exclaims “Pati, patni aur woke”. To know how he learnt that word, watch Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors which shows a new side of Madhav Mishra as a family man.

5. “Innocent until proven guilty”

Despite Anu Chandra’s silence and unwillingness to offer information, a witch-hunt by her mother-in-law to get her punished and a raging media trial,  Madhav Mishra does not give up on the fight to defend her. Even after her confession, he does not treat her as a murderer but as a woman who has been accused of a crime. When Madhav Mishra’s wife asks him if he thinks Anu Chandra is innocent, he responds saying that she is “Innocent until proven guilty”. He doesn’t know the real reason why Anu Chandra killed her husband, but Madhav Mishra is determined to fight for his client against all odds as he feels there is more to the story.

The other cast in the show includes powerhouse talents Ashish VidyarthiJisshu Sengupta, Shilpa Shukla, Pankaj Saraswat, Ayaz Khan, Kalyanee Mulay, Ajeet Singh Palawat, Khushboo Atre, Tirrtha Murbadkar, and others.
