Haelli: Beautifying the modern women’s attire in an Indian way
Driving its essence from the word “havelli,” Neha Sahu started the brand ‘HAELLI’ to follow her passion for art and give a touch of traditions in footwear.
With an
idea to massively spread the branches of Indian culture, HAELLI is a home-grown
brand that Neha used to create hand-printed juttis and share with the world.
This one-of-a-kind concept took a little time for the consumers to understand,
but then, these 100% genuine leather juttis with vibrant colours found their
way in many households across India.
The motto of starting this brand was to break the stereotype and bring forth the collection that defines elegance, quirkiness, and style opulence.
After that, Neha ventured into beautifying sarees for modern Indian women while keeping the traditional touch intact. According to Neha, the bright colors are the wings of Indian women, and subtle textures and abstract patterns help them flaunt the rich culture worth everyday celebration.
Excited about sharing the love of Indian cultures and motifs, Neha says, “Haelli is all about Indian traditions and vibrant colours that accentuate women’s beauty in a saree. The collection stands out with its unique designs and hues that are feminine yet refreshing.”
Besides the juttis and sarees, Neha - the Founder and designer, is now attempting to give a traditional touch to clothing, brooches, blouses, etc.
About Founder
Neha
Sahu is a Gurgaon-based artist and designer who worked as an Assistant
Professor at a University for over 5 years. With her roots in Rohtak, Haryana,
she was always fascinated by the vibrant colours and urged to play with bright
hues and was also captivated by artistic frameworks. Therefore, one day she
decided to start her brand while working in the University. However, the brand
did not happen just like that. She began with painting a pair for herself,
which then got the attention of family and friends, and soon she started
designing for others.
Now,
the Founder is expanding her horizons and taking “Haelli” to another level by
giving her magical artistic touch to clothes and accessories.
Haelli: Neha Sahu’s journey to convert passion into profession
After
graduating in engineering from Rohtak in 2010, Neha Sahu pursued her Masters.
And, right after two years, she started working as an Assistant Professor for a
University in Gurgaon. With her roots in Rohtak, Haryana, her family always
wanted her to pursue a slightly less demanding career that pays well.
Being always
fascinated by the vibrant colors, urged to play with bright hues, and
captivated by artistic frameworks, Neha continued with her passion for art and
design in one form or another. While working at the university, Neha started
painting a pair of juttis for herself, which then got the attention of family
and friends.
In the
first few years, Neha faced some challenges as it was tough to make everybody
understand the difference between passion and a hobby. She worked double
shifts. After her regular 9-5 job, she worked as an entrepreneur, switching
between designer and painter roles to the logistic manager, customer care,
technical support, and PR.
She
wore many hats and could not get any weekends or holidays to herself.
Convincing her family and herself for the new business setup was also
challenging. A concept like “Haelii” was unique, and not many people could
understand why she was working on it despite having a well-paid
job.
After a
roller coaster ride full of challenges, Neha Sahu is now working as a
hand-painted jutti designer and owns the well-known brand “The Haelli.”
