Bengaluru boy Tijil Rao becomes the National Champion in the JK Tyre-FMSCI National Racing Championship 2024


Bengaluru, November 21, 2024 – Tijil Rao, a 21-year-old professional racer from Bengaluru capped off an electrifying season at the 27th JK Tyre National Racing Championship 2024, securing 9 podium finishes across 12 races and is the 2024 National Champion of JK LGB Formula 4. Competing with Darkdon Racing, Tijil showcased exceptional skill, resilience, and determination throughout the season, cementing his position as one of India's brightest young racing talents.

The JK Tyre National Racing Championship which is in its 27th consecutive year has been the breeding ground for motorsport icons including Narain Karthikeyan, Karun Chandhok, Armaan Ebrahim, Arjun Maini, Kush Maini and others.

This year, Tijil delivered a stellar performance across all five rounds of the championship:

Season Highlights

Tijil Rao showcased exceptional skill and consistency throughout the racing season, beginning with a strong start at the Madras International Circuit, including a P1 finish in Race 2 despite a minor qualifying setback. His brilliance shone under the lights at Chennai’s first street circuit. Starting from P10 in Race 1, he charged through the field to secure a well-earned P3 finish, setting the fastest lap of the race. In Race 2, Tijil displayed exceptional skill and determination, surging from P3 to clinch victory in a dramatic final sector of the last lap, marking a spectacular highlight of his season.

In Round 3, Tijil’s consistency led to top-5 finishes and a thrilling win in Race 3. At Round 4 at Kari Motor Speedway, he secured podiums in both races, racing in front of his grandparents for the first time. Tijil concluded the season with a double podium, including a dominant Race 1 victory, overcoming challenges to finish the championship on a high note.

Tijil concluded the season with 88 points, dominating the championship standings and contributing significantly to Darkdon Racing success as the top team.

“It’s been an incredible year for me and my team. Racing with Darkdon Racing has been an absolute pleasure, and I’m thrilled with the progress we’ve made,” Tijil said. “A huge thank you to JK Tyre Motorsport, RPPL, and all my supporters for making this season unforgettable.”

Tijil Rao competed against strong rivals throughout the season, including Saran Vikram, Diljith TS, Raghul Rangasamy, Bala Prasath, Mehul Agarwal, and Vishwas Vijayraj. Despite facing such formidable opponents, Tijil consistently delivered outstanding performances, securing multiple victories and podium finishes, solidifying his reputation as a skilled and determined racer.

Tijil’s journey into motorsport began in 2017 with the Rotax National Karting Championship. Over the years, he has consistently demonstrated his prowess, earning the Vice Champion title in the inaugural JK Novice Cup Championship in 2018 and again in the JK LGB Formula 4 Championship in 2023.

University of Melbourne appoints Professor Muthupandian Ashokkumar as Director of Melbourne Global Centre

In his new role, he will be responsible for driving global engagements and stregthen ties between India & Australia~

New Delhi, 21 November 2024: The University of Melbourne today announced the appointment of Professor Muthupandian Ashokkumar as Director of the Melbourne Global Centre in Delhi. Professor Ashokkumar brings a wealth of experience in international education and organisational leadership, with previous roles as Assistant Deputy Vice-Chancellor International (India), Head of School of Chemistry, Acting Director and CEO of the Australia India Institute, and Associate Dean International at the University’s Faculty of Science.

In his new role, he will lead the University's strategic initiatives, outreach, and collaborations within India, fostering partnerships with governmental bodies, industry leaders, and other sector-specific entities to reinforce the commitment to the India-Australia bilateral relationship.

In his capacity, he will continue to pursue the advancement of Transnational Education (TNE), Transnational Research (TNR), and Community Engagement initiatives designed to foster reciprocal societal benefits, sustained growth, and cultural exchange for both nations.

Professor Ashokkumar obtained his Bachelor of Science (1982) and Master (1984) degrees from Madurai- Kamaraj University. In 1989, he obtained his PhD from University of Madras, India. He joined the University of Melbourne in 1996, migrating to Australia with his wife and son from Madurai, India. During his 28-year tenure at Australia’s #1 ranked university (globally ranked 13th), his passion for teaching and research has seen him rise through the ranks of the University’s Faculty of Science, gaining professorialship in 2011, and becoming Head of School of Chemistry in 2023.

Throughout his career, Professor Ashokkumar has established significant Transnational Education (TNE) and Transnational Research (TNR) programs and helped develop the Melbourne India Postgraduate Academy, which involved partner institutions across India.

Research

Through his research in ultrasonics and sonochemistry, Professor Ashokkumar has made substantial contributions to materials science, food technology, and dairy industries. He is recognised internationally, having published around 540 refereed papers, received approximately AUD$15 million in research grants, and served as the Editor-in-Chief of Ultrasonics Sonochemistry. His work has earned him a high reputation in academic circles, and he has delivered over 300 invited lectures at major conferences and institutions worldwide.

Engagement with India

In 2018, Professor Ashokkumar was appointed to the institution-wide role of Assistant Deputy Vice-Chancellor International (India), developing the University’s India Engagement Strategy 2020–2024. The insight and relationships he brought to this role ensured a partnership model of piloting programs with Indian institutions and then testing them for scaling suitability. As part of this, Professor Ashokkumar played a critical role in the establishment of the Bachelor of Science (Blended) program, the Bachelor of Science dual degree program, and the launch of the University of Melbourne’s Schools Engagement Program in India.

Alongside his appointment as Director at the Melbourne Global Centre – Delhi, Professor Muthupandian Ashokkumar will simultaneously commence as Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor International (South Asia and Middle East) for the University of Melbourne. These two roles reaffirm the University’s dedication to enhancing education and research partnerships in these regions and will be instrumental in delivering the University’s international strategy, Advancing Melbourne Globally.

REPLUS Engitech Signs MOU with Green Power Monitorfor Strategic Collaboration

An Unforgettable evening of soulful Hindustani classical music in Mumbai by The Jaipur Gems Charitable Trust*

The 20th edition of the Ugam Music Evening, organised by the Jaipur Gems Charitable Trust, brought together artistes and music lovers for an unforgettable celebration of classical music. The event, held at Nehru Centre, featured an impressive lineup of performances, the presentation of scholarships to promising young musicians and a tribute to late Inderchandji Sacheti, whose passion for classical music led to the founding of the trust. The Jaipur Gems Charitable Trust was established in 2005 by Padam Sacheti in memory of his father, Inderchandji Sacheti. The trust's primary mission is to promote and preserve classical music, and it has been doing so through two key initiatives: Ugam and Udaan.
Under the guidance of santoor maestro Padma Vibhushan Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, the trust has created a platform to nurture both established and emerging talent. Ugam provides free access to performances by leading classical musicians and offers the Pandit Shivkumar Sharma Samman Award to honour outstanding artistes. Meanwhile, Udaan is focused on young talent, giving budding artistes the opportunity to perform and grow. Since its inception, the trust has awarded scholarships to over 80 musicians.
This year's Ugam music evening was graced by Padma Vibhushan Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, one of the most revered names in Indian classical music, who served as the chief guest for the evening. The event also saw the presence of several dignitaries, including Niraj Bajaj, Captain Sunderchand Thakur, AN Roy, Pandit Rahul Sharma, Rahul Deshpande, Padam Sacheti and Manorama Sharma, all of whom took part in the lighting of the ceremonial lamp to mark the beginning of the event. 
Padam Sacheti shared, "The 20th Ugam Music Evening was a celebration of classical music, talent and tradition, reflecting the commitment of the Jaipur Gems Charitable Trust to preserve and promote the art form. With the support of patrons, performers and music lovers alike, the trust continues to make significant strides in fostering the growth of Indian classical music."
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of scholarships to four emerging artists, who were selected by their gurus. These scholarships, which support the education and training of young musicians, were presented by Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. The scholarship recipients included Sushant Ghatolkar (tabla), disciple of Pandit Yogesh Samsi; Nishad Pramod Vyas (vocalist), disciple of Padma Bhushan Pandit Sajan Mishra; Charulata Rath (vocalist), disciple of Padma Shri Pandit Umakantji Gundecha and Ghanshyam Chand (flute), disciple of Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. 
An impactful part of the evening was the soulful performance by Rahul Deshpande of the Patiala Gharana, who captivated the audience with his soulful renditions. Known for his mastery across various genres of classical music, including khyal, thumri, bhajan and ghazal, Deshpande was recently honoured with the Sudhir Phadke Award for his contributions to the music industry. Accompanied by Milind Kulkarni on the harmonium and Nikhil Phatak on the tabla, Deshpande's performance left the audience mesmerised. The event concluded by honouring artistes with flowers, presented by Mrs. Manju Sacheti.

World Crafts Forum 2024: Celebrating 60 Years of the Global Crafts Movement

New Delhi, November 15, 2024 – The World Crafts Council (WCC), in collaboration with the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) and supported by the Development Commissioner of Handicrafts, has organised the inaugural edition of the World Crafts Forum 2024. Scheduled from November 22-24 in New Delhi, followed by Srinagar from November 25-27, this event commemorates the 60th anniversary of the pioneering global crafts movement led by World Crafts Council International. Founded by Smt. Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay, along with Ms. Margaret M. Patch and Ms. Aileen Osborn Vanderbilt Webb, India has been central to the WCC's global initiatives. The Forum, envisioned as a futuristic flagship program of WCC, will rotate biannually across the organisation’s five geographic regions. The Forum is set to host a range of remarkable highlights. The National Crafts Museum, New Delhi, will witness two Roundtables and three Plenary Sessions, featuring over 25 national and international speakers, including Hon’ble Shri Pabitra Margherita Minister of State, Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Textiles, and senior officials from the Ministry of TextilesMr. Saad Al-Qaddumi, President of WCC-AISBL, Dr Kevin Murray, Vice President of WCC, and Presidents and Vice Presidents from all five WCC regions will attend the first-ever Board Meeting of WCC in India. India Leads the Way: Nearly Half of Workers Identified as Advanced AI Users, Says Atlassian Research


The AI Collaboration Index reveals AI is saving Indian workers on average almost two hours a day
Bengaluru, November 20, 2024 – Atlassian, a global leader in team collaboration and productivity software, has launched its latest research report, the AI Collaboration Index. The report highlights that nearly half (46%) of Indian knowledge workers are advanced users of AI, significantly outpacing their counterparts in regions such as the US (34%), Germany (32%), France (26%), and Australia (23%).
The report, commissioned by Atlassian’s Teamwork Lab, surveyed 5,000 knowledge workers across India, the US, Australia, Germany, and France. It outlines four stages of AI collaboration - from basic adoption as a simple tool (stage 1) to advanced usage as a strategic partner and decision-making advisor (stage 4).
Even at the earliest stages of AI adoption, Indian knowledge workers are experiencing significant productivity gains. In India, those using AI as a simple tool (stage 1) report saving an average of 104 minutes per day, compared to the global average of around 45 minutes. This jumps to a whopping 127 minutes per day for strategic AI collaborators (stage 4), equivalent to more than an extra workday each week.
Jamil Valliani, Head of Product (AI), Atlassian said, “To unlock the full potential of AI, it is not enough for companies to simply deploy AI tools. They also need to give their employees room to experiment. At Atlassian, we have provided AI tools and LLMs in a secure environment to enable this. Employees have been able to use these building blocks to create AI solutions tailored to their team’s needs, accelerating adoption. All that is needed is a little time and willingness to experiment.   • AI Mindset: As workers progress in AI maturity, the benefits of their investment become increasingly evident. An impressive 92% of strategic AI collaborators (stages 3 and 4) report that the time they dedicate to learning and using AI has been well worth it.
  • Effectiveness & Work Quality: Strategic AI collaborators not only complete tasks faster but also achieve higher-quality results. According to the research, 96% of these advanced users see a marked improvement in their work quality through co-creation with AI.
  • Leadership’s Role: Leadership plays a pivotal role in fostering AI adoption. Indian organizations that encourage experimentation and provide a safe space for employees to explore AI without fear of failure see better outcomes. Among advanced AI users, 87% credit their leadership for creating an environment that supports innovation and experimentation with AI tools.

Synapses partners with Microsoft to support startups in Tech Sector Decarbonization Challenge

New Delhi, 20 November 2024: The tech sector is one of the fastest-growing industries globally, but it also carries a significant carbon footprint. The world cannot race to the much needed low-carbon future, if the tech sector is left behind. Recognizing this imperative, the AIC-Synapses Innovation Foundation, in collaboration with Microsoft, launched the Tech Sector Decarbonisation Challenge in September 2024. By calling on startups with advanced solutions and a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 4 or higher, the challenge aimed to identify and support scalable innovations that would enable the tech industry to reduce its carbon emissions and work toward net-zero goals. TRL 4 represents the stage where key technology components have been validated in a laboratory environment, demonstrating proof of concept, but have yet to be tested in operational or real-world settings. Yesterday, we announced the finalists.

Throughout the challenge, startups presented innovative ideas spanning Energy Transition, Circular Economy, Energy-Efficient AI and Machine Learning, and Carbon Markets—all targeting crucial pathways to a sustainable tech sector. The top 12 selected participants had the unique opportunity to showcase their cleantech innovations at the Innovation Challenge Awards. Each finalist gained access to up to $150,000 in Microsoft Azure credits to advance their projects, specialized training, and incbation support from Synapses. Chennai, 20th November 2024 – In a breakthrough towards redefining pain management, a team of spine surgeons and pain specialists at Apollo Cancer Centre (ACC), Chennai, performed India’s first Dorsal Root Ganglion stimulation surgery using spinal cord stimulator, bringing life-changing relief to a 30-year-old patient from Oman. This innovative procedure opens new avenues for individuals suffering from chronic, nerve-related pain when other treatments have failed. This marks a new chapter in pain management and showcases India’s advanced capabilities in healthcare innovation and treatment facilities.

The patient endured constant, debilitating pain in his groin and upper thigh area for over two years after undergoing surgery for a testicular tumour in Oman. After a thorough evaluation and multidisciplinary team efforts, the patient was found to have pain originating from a damaged nerve in the inguinal region (area where the lower abdominal wall meets the upper thigh). The genitofemoral nerve—a primarily sensory nerve—supplies the upper thigh and emerges from the spine, passing through muscles to reach the inguinal region. During the surgery in this area, the nerve was damaged, causing severe pain to the patient. It is known as genitofemoral neuralgia.
