The central theme of the Fashion Collection 2019 was “Wanderlust” and the students had designed their collections picking up inspirations from the various places that they had visited or lust to visit. They had internalized this lust of wandering into beautifully crafted designs. How these places – their exotic landscapes, diverse climate, awe-inspiring structures and distinct cultures had inspired them to conceive an idea that pushes them to weave designs on the looms of their creativity is the essence of their collection. Their collections are nostalgic, neoteric and futuristic in their conception.
Professional models including Sucheta Sharma and Candice Pinto walked the ramp for designers . Vaishali S, Sunipa S, Amit Ranjan, Tasneem Merchant (Fashion Designer), Meher Castelino (Author) came specially to judge the fashion show. Singer Shahzad Ali performed live for all students and guest of Sasmira.
The students had designed Indian; Indo-Western & Western wear and fashion accessories collections. These collections had a wide variety of colours and fabrics .
Director, Dr. U.K. Gangopadhyay was of the view that,“Fashion serves as language, a non-verbal communication, which is the only way in which a culture's beliefs, mores, customs etc. are passed on to another generation”
Head of SETP, Krishnendu Datta said, “Fashion represents our inner psyche, it re-establishes our status in society. ‘Enchanté’ is an event, which gives our students a platform to not only present their work but also learn and practically understand the industry.”

The Airmen Collective' by Arjun Khanna & Akshay Sharma (WoodFeather)

Art meets aviation; avant-garde meets handcrafted; the past meets the future for The Airmen Collective

MUMBAI, 29th June 2019: Art, fashion and aviation came together in a deeply cool collaboration between Arjun Khanna (AK Atelier) and Akshay Sharma (WoodFeather) as they unveiled The Airmen Collective on 29th June 2019 at Café Zoe.
The talented actor Meezaan Jaffrey who is set to make his Bollywood debut in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's next Malaal- was the showstopper for the event. Glorious masculinity blended seamlessly with the tunes of Ryan Sadri’s saxophone.
This dreamy homage to aviation style was cheered on by Kailash Kher, Manish Paul, Anil Chopra, Umesh Jivnani, Ira Khan and Vikram Raizada. The uber cool sundowner served gin cocktails by Stranger & Sons and beer by Hoegaarden.
Akshay and Arjun, lend their bold interpretation of aviation to a limited edition, 16-piece collection of luxurious propellers and vintage fashion. While Arjun and Akshay’s meeting was serendipitous, their collaboration is far from accidental. All it will take is one look at their collaboration, the importance of handcrafting and the hard work that underlines their individual crafts, for anyone to see how they were destined to meet.
Here is what the avant gardes have to say about their collections:
Arjun Khanna
"Denim, vintage and camouflage have always been themes very close to my heart and a personal design style. All three have come together really beautifully for The Airmen Collective collection.
I collect vintage and retro clothing, old leather and flight jackets and vintage denim from the 60s, 70s and 80s - so this collection was long coming. Old bomber jackets, the B52, flight jackets from World War II all form an incredibly sexy canvas for this collection of 16 unique, one-off pieces. The denim is seriously distressed and I’ve used real camouflage from old uniforms from the 1940 to 1960 and some very old denim fragments. Every detail is done by hand and every single piece is handmade and hand finished.
I’ve never made these designs before and I don’t think I will ever make them again. The pieces came together almost by themselves, and I believe that all I am, is the conduit through which an incredible story needs to be told. As a biker myself, I’ve always been drawn to freedom, individuality and effortless sense of cool that this style stands for.  I have spent countless days and nights dreaming up a collection of fashionable and functional biker jackets and accessories. The Airmen’s Collective is a natural precursor to the stories that are yet to come.”
Akshay Sharma
“This collection marks the third generation of handcrafted propellers from WoodFeather. Each piece takes close to 6 weeks of work by different craftsmen to achieve the impeccable finish that earns a WoodFeather badge.
These collection witnesses an entirely new range under two categories of designs. The Classic range explores newer ways to showcase the natural finish of woods like Teak, Beech, Maple, Mahogany and Pine. While the Signature range is finished in a variety of paints and colours ranging from Metallic Silver to a Racing Red and Rich Whites to two-tone blues and many more.
The other big leap with this collection has been the introduction of the much-awaited 3-blade propellers. Adding ‘just another blade’ took over a year of exploring a different technique in crafting and finishing to perfect them into head turners that will be the pièce de résistance wherever they are placed.”

Kamal Nath, Chief Minister, Madhya Pradesh

MP Chief Minister, Kamal Nath speaking at India Today Mindrocks event said, “I was made the state president in April and had five months before the (Assembly) elections.”
"Youngsters need to focus on everything from their careers to environment, family and all other aspects. This will help them have an overall development."
Young Star, Youthful Vision: dreaming of tomorrow in conversation with CM Kamal Nath
A revolution in agriculture and Investments for the development of the state are the top two priorities for Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kaml Nath. He said so during a discussion at the India Today Mind Rocks Indore Youth Summit on Saturday, held at Indore.
Six months of being the CM, his tenure has seen the maximum number of transfers of IAS, IPS and SPs of the state. The CM, however calls it a necessary step. "Transfers (of officials) were important. More transfers can be expected. We have transferred those who have been at the same position for years," said the CM.
Speaking more about his tenure as the CM, Nath said that his government had proved within the 120 days they had." Out of the six months, model code of conduct was implied for two and a half months, leaving us with only 120 days. Yet, we have proved ourselves." He also went ahead to say that BJP's will to fall the government will not succeed, saying, "We have proved our mandate every time."
He also confirmed that the Congress party will soon get a new President, at the same time denying that he will not be the one and would continue to be the CM. When asked about whether his government was trying to attack sons of BJP leaders, he denied saying that the police was doing their job. Nath said," The police did their job by arresting him (Akash Vijayvargiya) and now the matter is with the court. The government has not intervened in it."
While addressing the young crowd, he said that he was no different when he was their age. "I was always into mountaineering and used to go on frequent treks. Cricket and football were also my areas of interest back then," said Nath adding that youth needs to focus on all aspects including their carers, environment and families.

Indore’s Sweetheart Tells All: Ankita Lokhande, Actor

For actor Ankita Lokhande, the stage of India Today's youth summit held at Ravindra Natya Graha, Indore was nothing less than walking down the memory lane.
Ankita recalls performing on the same stage as a child back in her school days, and says, "I want to thank India Today for calling me here, as this is the same stage where I used to perform as a kid for our school's annual functions. Born and brought up in Indore, I have lots and lots of memories with their city. I remember how my brother used to get me a plate of poha at 4 AM from Rajwada every day. At the age of 4,I had decided that I wanted to become an actor. I shared my dream with my mother and I asked her to speak to Bapu, my grandfather, in this regard.”
She quickly talks about how Indore holds a special place in her heart, as it is where she was born and brought up. Coming from the television world, Ankita made her entry to the silver screen with Manikarnika. Yet, she calls television, a difficult job than Bollywood.
"Both television and movies are different than each other. From my experience, television is far difficult as it has more hours of work. Once, I had to shoot for an episode while I was suffering with dengue fever. I have come from television and I will never leave that industry. It is just that as an actor I am trying to explore new horizons of my career through films." she said.

‘Why Dance is the Soul of My Life’ - Terence Lewis, Dancer, Choreographer

Known as the encyclopedia of dancing, choreographer Terence Lewis made Indore dance on his tunes at the India Today Mind Rocks Indore. Been in the industry for 20 years, Terence says that he is still learning to perfect his moves. The ace choreographer also has a dance academy where he teaches his students the technicalities of dancing.
His thoughts over dance and choreography, as he loves to call it - are very ‘Old School’ thoughts. "Dance is not only about the moves but about feeling it. Acrobats or gymnasts cannot match up to dancing since feelings and expressions are involved in it," he said, while giving an example of his favourite dancer - actor Madhuri Dixit, who he says displays the best feelings in her dance.
Soon after he showed a few steps of contemporary form of dance, Terence spoke of how everyone says he only talks 'technical' about dance. "I have professionally trained myself in dancing l, is why I only stick to its technical aspects, as a judge at any reality show."
Terence being a great influencer of the youth also gave a word of caution regarding the increasing addiction to social media. The choreographer says that people have become used to living in a virtual world which is a cause of depression.
He said that, "In the new few years, there will be a high rise in depression as people are living in a virtual world where communication has been cut to social media posts. We are social animals who absorb energy from each other. So, if we are not talking to each other, we will fall into depression. We need to make a balance between your life and social media."
"Lot of young actors on the list are good dancers but they do not enjoy the choreography like Madhuri Dixit does. One needs to feel the dance and perform. That is why Madhuri is my favourite dancer and so it Hrithik Roshan. One of the most embarrassing moments of my life was when I was asked to perform a split at a dance reality show on national television. I was in my formal wear and had to perform. The end result of my pants getting torn continues to remain the most embarrassing moment for me."
"As a judge at reality shows, I only want to talk about technical stuff. I think, that is the only reason why people often say that I am very technical. One needs to separate dance, acrobats, and gymnasts. Dance is a way to connect with people through feelings, which is missing these days. When I wanted to become a choreographer, I realised that there were dance classes around but no professional training. I wanted to train myself professionally is why I chose to move abroad. Later, I started my training institute."
He further added, "Sanjay Leela Bhansali had already shot the song (Ang Laga De) with me but he wasn't happy with Deepika's costume, is why we had to re-shoot it. In the song, there was a part where sun rays are seen. And Bhansali was so particular about this scene that a person was hired only to manage the correct amount of sun rays required in the frame."
“You need to be in love with dance and choreography. It is a two-edged sword. It will get you fame but could be short time fame also. When I started dancing, there was absolutely no career in choreography. The dignity and respect that was lost, has come back because of the dance reality shows. Human beings are social animals who need absorb energy from each other through conversations. With social media, we have stopped doing that and it won't be surprising to have an increase in depression cases because of living in the virtual world all the time," he concluded, while showing some more dance moves; making the young guns join him too.”

How Himansh Kohli and Pia Bajpiee braved -3 degrees weather to shoot for ‘Tera Shehar’

When lead actors Himansh Kohli and Pia Bajpiee flew to Armenia to shoot for the music video of the single Tera Shehar, they had obviously not thought about the extreme weather conditions there.
Himansh and Pia were shooting for the immensely moving song sung by Mohd. Kalam in -3 in Armenia. The team had initially planned to shoot in Georgia but they then felt Georgia had been explored earlier in Hindi film songs. Armenia was relatively unexplored. Everyone felt it’s a beautiful place and the locations had a match with the story they we were trying to tell through the song about love and loss, penned by Manoj Muntashir, composed by Amaal Mallik and directed by Shabby Singh.
Though it was freezing, the Tera Shehar team managed to capture the feel of the song. Armenia had a wonderful visual aura to it.
Says Himansh, “Shooting in -3 degrees was definitely challenging. All of us felt a bit under the weather. Director Shabby had fever for three days but he did not compromise on the vision that we had for the song.  Male actors have it easy. They usually have a jacket on them. For women, it’s challenging. It was commendable of Pia to go about her work in a professional manner without complaining even once.”
Pia who also had a ‘chilling’ time recalls, “I was told that it’s cold only in the mornings and at night time. So I hadn’t packed sufficient clothes that could keep me warm. Initially, I was not supposed to wear the long coats that you will see me wearing in the video but then they realized how difficult it was for me. So I got to wear a coat or two but for the last shot where I am seen running in a bridal gown, I couldn’t sport a coat over the gown and I just had to pull it off in one take.”
Tera Shehar is produced by Manoj Muntashir Entertainment and R-Chills Music and is presented by T-Series.
