Renowned Singer Kailash Kher Adds a Sufi tone to Paapnaashini Ganga’s Title Track

Mumbai, February 2021: Holy music has a unique soothing quality; it fills the soul with love and adds tranquility to the surrounding, and that’s exactly what Ishara has aimed to bring with the new title track of Paapnaashini Ganga. The song expresses love and respect for Goddess Ganga, capturing her story of divinity and virtues. Padma Shri award winning singer Kailash Kher lends his soul piercing voice to the title track perfectly complimenting the lyrics and uplifting the song.

With its crafted lyrics the title track speaks about the beautiful birth story of Goddess Ganga and captures the many emotions and devotion we have for Goddess Ganga. The song beautifully conveys the story of how Goddess Ganga came to life from the nail of Lord Vishnu and how Lord Shiva helped her descend on earth to save humanity.

Kailash Kher said, “The lyrics of Paapnaashini Ganga beautifully capture the true spirit of Ganga Mata and her story. When I got the chance to be a part of Ishara's Paapnaashini Ganga song, I was happy to be able to a part of it. Paapnaashini Ganga gave me the freedom to add shades of Adhyatm that gave depth to the composition and have a chiming effect.”

He further added, "My music is a reflection of the way I think and lead my life. I have tried to add a piece of me to the song. Today’s Kailash is the prodigy of Ganga and Himalaya itself."

More Research Needed for Rare Diseases by Indian Society for Clinical Research

With research, possibilities are limitless

India, February 27, 2021: 7000 known rare diseases, an estimated 300 million rare disease patients worldwide of which 70 million are in India, yet most have no treatment / very limited treatment options available. On Rare Disease Day 2021, ISCR (Indian Society for Clinical Research) calls upon all research stakeholders to invest in research across the spectrum so that rare disease patients and their caregivers can look forward to a better quality of life. Rare Disease Day takes place on the last day of February each year to raise awareness amongst the general public and decision-makers about rare diseases and their impact on patients' lives.

Noting the need for more research into rare diseases, Chirag Trivedi, President, ISCR said, “According to available data, 1 in 20 people will live with a rare disease at some point in their lives. The large number of rare disease patients living without access to treatment and management of their conditions either because of lack of awareness, lack of appropriate diagnosis and lack of treatment options should be a wake-up call for the clinical research community.” Rare Disease Day is a day to remind researchers, universities, students, companies, policy makers and clinicians to do more research and to make them aware of the importance of research for the rare disease community.

The UN 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals is addressing the needs of patients that are diagnosed with rare disease through their pledge to leave no one behind. Furthermore, the future goal of Rare Disease Day over the next decade would be to increase the equity for people living with a rare disease and their families.

Research can lead to the identification of previously unknown diseases, increase our understanding of diseases, enable doctors to provide a correct diagnosis, lead to the development of new innovative treatments and possibly even a cure, reduce costs for healthcare systems, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

About Rare Disease Day

Rare Disease Day takes place on the last day of February each year. The main objective of Rare Disease Day is to raise awareness amongst the general public and decision-makers about rare diseases and their impact on patients' lives. The campaign targets primarily the general public and also seeks to raise awareness amongst policy makers, public authorities, industry representatives, researchers, health professionals and anyone who has a genuine interest in rare diseases.

Covid 19 ups demand for efficient last mile delivery and intra-city logistics

Authored by Hemanth Chandra, CEO, Pickkup, an enterprise-focused last mile delivery startup

From making remote working a norm to bringing about a radical shift in the way consumers shop, COVID 19 is being regarded as a black swan event for the global economy. Even as traditional businesses took a hit due to the pandemic-induced lockdown, the changing landscape acted as a major catalyst for digital transformation across business and delivery models. COVID 19 accelerated the shift towards digitization as dependency on online services grew exponentially overnight. The Indian population was acquainted with the concept of last mile delivery or doorstep delivery over the last few years, whether it is food delivery or shipments from e-commerce platforms. However, the situation emanating out of the pandemic has given a boost to mass adoption of these services.

Notably, small businesses which make up the backbone of India’s economy still have limited digital presence. It is estimated that only 20% of small businesses offer online services currently, leaving a large untapped market and infinite possibilities for the growth of logistics sector. The demand for last mile delivery services is likely to grow significantly in the coming years as greater digitization of businesses takes place.

There is already a surge for on-demand and instant deliveries services across the Indian urban space. With logistics and delivery service providers brimming with orders, a strong need has been felt for technology-based instant last mile delivery models that can not only improve delivery speed but also optimise utilisation of resources, thereby improving unit economics. In fact, efficient last mile delivery has become a key determining point as far as customer satisfaction is concerned and all kinds of businesses are looking to provide last mile delivery.

The on demand delivery industry is already disrupting traditional markets by adopting a full cycle approach to three essential components of a delivery experience: Ordering, pick-up and delivery. This will receive a further boost as businesses adapt to the COVID induced changes.

The e commerce surge and emerging need for last mile delivery

Evidently, e commerce was the most notable beneficiary of the COVID 19 induced transition of the economy. As more people preferred the safety of home delivery over personal buying, e commerce platforms were flooded with orders. In India, where a large section of the population had still not adapted to e-buying, the post COVID period witnessed a rise in first-time-ecommerce-users. So overwhelming were the initial months of the 2020 lockdown that leading e commerce platforms such as Big Basket[1], Amazon[2] and Grofers had to prioritise orders and request customers to bear with delays. According to market research company Forrester Research, e commerce sales jumped by 7-8 per cent in India in 2020. Even though this jump was much less than in the US or Chinese markets, it does display a trend towards a shifting consumer behaviour. Growing e-commerce sector is creating more opportunities in intracity logistics and changing customer preferences with respect to shopping and delivery. According to KPMG research, 80% of customers today look for same-day shipping. In fact, 50% of shoppers are actually willing to pay extra money for faster delivery. As consumers become accustomed to extremely quick delivery experience, offering shipping options will increasingly become a ‘need rather than a choice’ for retailers.

Efficient last mile delivery gains importance

“Last mile” as the phrase suggests refers to the final stage of delivery to the consumer which mostly happens from a point to another within a city. Often, while inter-city transportation has been efficient, the final stage delivery remains a challenge. This is where efficient intra city logistics and last mile delivery services are gaining prominence. Intracity logistics for enterprises is not just about delivering parcels in 30 minutes. It is about solving the actual business challenges.
It is about building capabilities to seamlessly execute movement of goods irrespective of scale and size.

Major e commerce players as well as small businesses are today looking to improve delivery time and experience as a critical tool to gain new customers and satisfy existing ones. Hyperlocal players are increasingly witnessing a rise in express delivery, next day delivery or two day delivery. Instant on-demand delivery is another relatively new focus area gaining increasing prominence in recent times. However, executing express deliveries and on-demand requires highly sophisticated logistics and last mile delivery capability. The relatively nascent logistics sector in India therefore needs to grow at a rapid pace to meet the rising needs of a digital economy. Clearly, an infinite space for last mile delivery services is emerging in India.

Harnessing Technology to overcome challenges in intra city logistics

Intra-city logistics providers that usually deal with instant and on-demand delivery requirements have a high degree of commitment to ensuring deliveries within the same day. This makes the entire chain of operations subjective to demand variability. Orders may suddenly surge from one part of the city, requiring quick identification and connectivity with an available delivery agent. Innovative technology is the bedrock of a system that efficiently matches the needs of demand and supply to ensure a seamless function together with optimisation of resources and positive unit economics.

Innovation-focussed startups like Pickkup are increasingly filling this void by harnessing technological innovation to create algorithms and systems that optimise the use of resources to the fullest while ensuring high degree of customer satisfaction. The potential of the industry is huge, with tech startups solving the logistics puzzle beautifully.

Madhuri Dixit: Dance Deewane as a show has taught me so much!

As the craze of dance starts to take over, Madhuri Dixit returns as the supreme judge on the upcoming season of COLORS’ Dance Deewane. Coming back for the third time, the original Diva of dance Madhuri will be joined by Tushar Kalia and Dharmesh Yelande, who is a new addition to the cast. Also joining the trio will be Raghav Juyal as host, another new addition. With the theme being Waqt ko Nachayenge, Dance Machayenge, the show will see three generations of dancers compete for the trophy. In a freewheeling interview, Madhuri talks about what Dance Deewane means to her, how she spent her lockdown and how the show is an important platform in the life of aspiring dancers.

What encourages you to judge Dance Deewane every year?

Several things excite me about Dance Deewane. To start with, the fact that Dance Deewane  allows the third generation to showcase their skills, something that we don’t see on television. I believe that anybody can dance, and all that is needed is the passion to go up and give into the magic of the art form. I appreciate the fact that Dance Deewane celebrates dance and there are no age barriers, as we have three generations of people coming together to win the coveted trophy. What is also very special this season is that, in addition to me and Tushar, there are two new dancers joining us; Dharmesh Yelande on the judges panel and Raghav Juyal as the host. All four of us are dancers and we realize the passion for the art form. These are some of the reasons I keep coming back to Dance Deewane.

With every season, we see a lot more people competing in dance shoes. Why do you feel that is?

One of the main reasons for this is the aspirational quality of a show like Dance Deewane where people want to come up and showcase their talent to the country. Dance Deewane is a platform for these talented individuals which gives them recognition. It makes dance more than a passion. A person can make their livelihood after gaining recognition on the show. The world has changed, and today, dancers can do really well in their careers if they are talented, and Dance Deewane gives them an opportunity to showcase just how skilled they are. I believe that could be one of the reasons why we are seeing such enthusiastic participation.

How was the lockdown for you? And how is it to come back to routine after this?

I kept myself busy in lockdown. I got an opportunity to spend time with my kids and with my mother. You know, we always used to crib that we never get a chance to be with our family because of our busy schedule, but these 7 months gave us a chance to spend a lot of time with our families.  I spent a good amount of time working on Dance With Madhuri as well and we did several contests and gave free classes. I also got a chance to let the creative juices flow and released an English song of my own! Now that things are opening up, I am feeling quite positive, yet we need to take all the precautions we can until we don’t defeat this virus completely.

What are the qualities a good dancer should have?

A good dancer should have skills like ease and grace. A dancer should understand the rhythm and the dance form. They should understand the expressions and even the body language of each style. The one possessing all these qualities becomes a good dancer. That being said, there should be an X-Factor in each of the contestants. The thing is, it is very difficult to pinpoint any one thing, but that X-Factor is what makes the difference and elevates one from being a good dancer to a great one! That is what we all are looking for.

From all of your dance performances, which one was the most challenging?

There are a lot of songs which were difficult for me. But the ones which really put me to test were performances like Choli Ke Piche Kya Hai, Chane Ke Khet Mein, Ke Sera Sera, Ek Do Teen and Tamma Tamma. While these were some of the most difficult songs that I danced on, they are also the most memorable ones.

How do you keep yourself updated with new dance forms ?

One of the reasons that I glad to be part of Dance Deewane is that the show has taught me a lot about new dance forms! I have learnt so much about modern dance formats by being a part of it. When I started dancing, we only knew of folk dance, hip-hop, classical, etc but now there are so many new dance forms like experiential, Contortion etc.

Do you think that choreography in movies has become more challenging?

Yes, I do. Choreography in movies is definitely more challenging today. These days, dance involves a lot of leaps and there are several new techniques for lifts as well. The choreography these days has a lot of physical movements compared to before. There were no stunts in dance before, but now if one wants to become an all-round dancer, one should know these stunts. It is definitely more challenging. The young kids who are 6 and 7-year-old also dance well at such a small age, I wonder what magic they will do later!

“It was an emotional joyride to be a part of Crashh” says little Anushka Sen in an interview leading to the launch of Crashh

Adorable Anushka Sen gives us a young perspective on shooting and action on the sets.Anushka Sen has been getting a lot of attention for ALTBalaji and ZEE5’s Crashh as she is the youngest actor on set. A little girl playing a role with these many layers requires quite a bit of maturity which she displayed at all times which deserves accolades. This little girl is definitely a “Chota packet bada dhamaka”.

 1.          Tell us about the show?

Crashh is the story about Kabir is played by Kunj Anand, Kajal played by Aditi Sharma, Alia played by Anushka Sharma and Rahim by Rohan Mehra, whose lives are changed forever when their birth parents die in a car crash. They end up in an orphanage only to be separated in four different directions later. However, fate continues to play its wicked game when years later, the oldest sibling, Kabir (Kunj Anand), who is a cop, goes on a mission to reunite his estranged family.

2.          Tell us about your character

Alia is a young 21-year-old girl who’s smart, vivacious and has the world at her feet. Her adopted parents have spoilt her and made her feel nothing less than a princess. She is a head turner and she is aware of it. Alia is instinctive and really sharp. She might not understand emotions thoroughly y, but she knows every person surrounding her. She observes, she grasps and then acts on it, a wolf’s mind but pretend to be a sheep. Alia is a social-media addict, but that’s not because she enjoys it but because she knows that the life of the rich and famous is enjoyed by the masses and it also feeds her bank-accounts heavily. The girl does have a soft-corner and emotions for people but doesn’t show it much, because she rather wears the cloak of vanity and have the last laugh. Simply put, she behaves like a blonde, but is a smartass bitch.

3.          What all preparations did you do for the character?

The reason I loved to be a part of Crashh was that it is a show based on the story of four siblings and how they struggle in their lives still comes up with a heart full of joy and dreams. OTT platform gives an opportunity to artists to prove themselves as an artist. My recent project in this dynamic OTT space lets me explore myself as an actor through the story. I loved the script and my character in Crashh as it is a beautiful saga of sibling love and the pain of being separated at a young age.

4.      How excited are you for Crashh?

It is a youth oriented web show which will connect with the audience and make them feel their unconditional love with their siblings which they avoid to show but is always there

5.      Do you feel OTT platforms are the future of entertainment industry?

Absolutely, OTT platforms is the future of the entertainment industry catering to various genres, stories, etc. as the platform is growing as faster as lightening. The way things are going it might be possible that people will only prefer OTT as they are easily accessible at any place.

With their diverse content and growing audience, the digital platforms are anticipated to be the new normal for everyone.

6.      How was your experience working with your co-stars?

I loved working with all of them, I had a different equation off camera with them all amazing, beautiful, truly talented, and they will have bright futures and are yet to reach their max potential and will definitely shine. They will do it as soon as possible because they are truly talented and hardworking.

7.      What are your expectations from the show?

How it is going to be received is not in our hands but as an actor I have given my one hundred percent. I do want the show to be fabulous and the one that stays with the audience as the show coincidently collides with Valentine’s Day popularly celebrated as the day of love, I would urge all the siblings to watch the show and hope it strikes a chord with them. We have given our hundred percent and that is all that we could've done since it was shooting the show with all the necessary precautions and limited units, it is a tremendous team effort

8.      What is that one messages you'd like to share with your viewers and fans?

The importance and the bond between family is the most crucial message in the show and the pain of separation and the determination to find one another is visible in the visuals that the story brings to us. It outlines the accident that causes the family to fall apart. It shows us glimpses of their lives and how the children are forced into separation as they are adopted or taken away. There is also a glimpse of the mental trauma that they all suffer yet share a connection that they don’t know of. It was an emotional joyride to shoot the show and it will make me happy if the audience feel it too.

9.      How was the shooting experience post COVID norms?

I was actually excited to face the camera after a brief hiatus. It felt like a homecoming of sorts. While makers ensure that all the guidelines are followed on sets, actors are also being extra cautious. There were limited people on sets and we wore masks. At every point in and around the sets, there were sanitiser bottles and sprays. It was quite a distinct experience, but I got used to it. It has become a new normal for everyone

10.  What precautions did you take while shooting?

It was challenging to shoot during such restrictions, however keeping in mind the guidelines I made sure to carry my own sanitizers, mask, gloves, etc. It was not only to ensure my safety but also to ensure the safety of my fellow cast and crew members.
