The 16th National Ice Skating Championship of Ice Figure Skating took place on 30th August 2019 atiSkate, Ambience Mall, Gurugram. The event took place in association with Ice Skating Association of India with 100+ participants spread from all across the country from states like Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Uttarakhand. The children were categorized under several age groups viz under 10, 10-13, 13-15, 15-19 and above 19.
The Challenge took place post the Four-Day National Coaching Camp. The Training Camp of Ice Figure Skating begins from 7 am till 11 am in an uninterrupted environment for the Ice Skaters to pay full attention on their skills like jumps, spins, movements, flexibility and postures.
This has brought in a fruitful new learning experience under the mentorship of Legend Mentor Mr. Jagraj Singh Sahney who had been titled as Figure Skating King in 1980. Proficient coaches like Nishchay Luthraand Mr. Vasudev Tandi guided the children to outperform with the best of their abilities.
Aaditabh’s performance at the Ice Skate was outclassed as everyone at the ring was stunned by his effortless performance. The championship declared and concluded the results depending upon the skating skills, body movements, postures, elements, jumps, flexibility and spins of the participants. He has been a gold medalist thrice and has absolutely left no stones unturned to reach the sky.
“I have been skating since I was 2-and-a-half-years old. My entire childhood revolves around it with the best of memories of Skating. I started as a Roller Skater but with time, I tried my hands on Ice Skating. Ice Skating is something I’m extremely passionate and driven about at the moment. I want to continue putting in relentless efforts like this to be in line with my vision and goals of being the Top Figure Ice Skater, something no one from India has ever been.” says 12 year old Aaditabh Gupta.
On the closing ceremony, Mr. R K Gupta; President, ISAI (The Ice Skating Association of India) said, “We are undergoing an upsurge penchant and cognizance for Ice Skating in India and yet to receive adequate provisions from the government. The parents of the participants are completely involved with their children in the activity and the association entreaties them to consider the sport more as a career than a hobby.”
The event was concluded with Colonel S.C. Narang, Secretary, Ice Skating Association when he gave a special mention to Aaditabh Gupta’s outstanding performance. He made reaffirmation with the fact that Aaditabh is definitely going to have a very bright future in Ice Skating.
