Kolkata, September 4, 2019: A 52-year old female patient was admitted at Medica Superspecialty Hospital on 1st September 2019.
The patient was comatose when brought to the Emergency department of Medica and hence was immediately intubated and mechanically ventilated. Urgent CT Scan of the brain showed left side intracerebral haemorrhage. On 3rd September, a team of doctors declared her brain dead.
Following this, the patient's relatives were counselled for organ donation. The woman’s husband agreed to donate her organs and came forward to support the good cause.
State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO) authorities were duly informed regarding the same. Thereafter, the Heart, Kidneys and Corneas of the patient were successfully allocated to different government and private hospitals by SOTTO.
“We have been always extending our sincere support to the organ donation initiative. We recognize that this wonderful and noble accomplishment would not have been possible without the selfless act of the patient’s family. We extend sincere thanks to the family members of the deceased. We are also thankful to the Government of West Bengal for putting so much focus on organ donation that has led to an environment of awareness around us,” said Dr. Alok Roy, Chairman, Medica Group of Hospitals.
