Grundfos India’s facility receives the prestigious ‘LEED Platinum’ certification

Grundfos India, a global leader in advanced pump solutions and a trendsetter in water technology, today announced that its India facility in Chennai, comprising of both its country headquarters and the factory building, has been accredited with LEED Platinum Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). This is the highest level of rating offered by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for green buildings and is a global benchmark for environmentally-responsible designs and sustainable construction practices.

Sustainability is becoming even more critical in the current scenario with natural resources such as water and energy rapidly depleting. Grundfos has been one of the early adopters in implementing measurable green strategies and exhibiting highest standards of water and energy conservation, waste management, CO2 emissions, environmental quality and occupant satisfaction. The renewal of LEED certification for the entire facility reinforces Grundfos India’s commitment to champion sustainable initiatives. The company received an overall score of 84 points for its facility, which spreads across 1,48,758 square feet.

“Achieving the LEED Platinum certification for our factory underscores our efforts to meet effective corporate green strategies. This now means that our entire facility, both the office and factory are Platinum rated. Sustainability is an integral part of our ethos and business model, and we believe our buildings should embody the values that we believe in” said Saravanan Panneer Selvam, General Manager, Grundfos India.

The Grundfos India facility has underground water tanks with the capacity of 3,50,000 liters to harvest rainwater that helps collect 53% (approx.) of precipitation. In addition to this, all of waste water from the factory is being recycled and is made available for landscaping and gardening purposes, making it a zero liquid discharge (ZLD) facility. The building also has provision to collect and condense water from Air Conditioners for reuse.

With its sustainable green building design, the facility optimizes the natural day light and also has efficient lighting and air conditioning systems to reduce its energy consumption. It also has a solar photo-voltaic installation in the roof-top that generates about 208 Mwh per annum that is used within its facility, further contributing towards reducing its CO2 emissions.

Grundfos India’s headquarters in Chennai (office building) was the first commercial building in the country to be ‘LEED Gold’ certified in 2005. Persistent efforts to achieve highest levels of sustainability, encouraged the company to apply for voluntary recertification of this building in 2013, when it was elevated to a Platinum rating. Now with its factory also receiving this rated, the entire premises is LEED Platinum rated.

Grundfos India helps thousands of migrant workers and underprivileged during the COVID-19 pandemic

April 20, 2020: The ongoing Coronavirus pandemic has created an unprecedented health and humanitarian crisis. Grundfos India, a global leader in pump solutions and water technology is helping the vulnerable communities and government hospitals.

With the outbreak of Covid-19 resulting in the national lockdown, many migrants and underprivileged communities have been struggling to get food. With the help of its NGO partners, Grundfos India has provided food kits to more than 3000 people in Chennai. Additionally, the company has donated funds that will go towards procuring key medical and protective equipment for government hospitals, including ventilators, surgical masks, CVN95+ mask, protective goggles and nitrile gloves.

Saravanan Panneer Selvam, General Manager, Grundfos India, said, “We all are going through some unprecedented times and it is imperative that everyone contributes in any way possible. Grundfos India has been working closely with local authorities to provide food kits to the migrant workers housed close to our facility in Chennai. We are also donating towards various other food distribution efforts in the city. We realize the critical support that our healthcare and medical staff require and have donated funds that will go towards equipping them in this fight against Covid-19.”

Additionally, the Poul Due Jensen Foundation (the Grundfos Foundation) has pledged £25 million to support research into COVID-19.

Production in Bjerringbro will deliver up to 5000 face shields a day

to aid Danish health services in the fight against coronavirus

36 hours after the call from the Danish Medicines Agency, a Grundfos team had made a visor prototype. On Friday 3 April, full-scale production is set to begin. Up to 5000 visors, or face shields, will – according to demand – roll out every day, so that employees in the health and care sector can protect themselves and patients against corona infection.

The delivery of aids also includes other countries in areas, where Grundfos has production facilities. For instance, 2500 visors will be delivered to a local French hospital on Monday 6 April.

”I am incredibly proud of our skilled colleagues, who have established this so quickly. It is imperative that everyone contributes with solutions in any way possible, so we can support  our health and care staff in the fight against coronavirus. We are ready to do everything within our power,” says Morten Bach Jensen, Group Vice President, HVAC OEM, Grundfos.

Easy to use

A key factor in developing the visor was making it easy to manufacture and easy and convenient for staff to use. The mask consists of a normal sheet of A4 foil attached to a plastic frame, which was 3D printed in the early stages of the project but now ready for production in a regular plastic tool.

“We have applied a standard product like A4 foil, so the visor is easier to produce. You simply make holes is the foil with a regular hole punch and then click it onto the frame,” explains Torben Buch Rasmussen, who leads the team behind the visors made for mass production.

“It is very important for our company to take social responsibility. We can help produce something, which is a deficiency, and this is not something we have to make money from. It's just an attempt to help,” he adds.

Unique commitment

It is planned that Grundfos will join a taskforce coordinated by the Confederation of Danish Industry. Within this framework, several large Danish companies will develop parts for pharmaceutical equipment that may be missing from the Danish healthcare system. Lars Frelle Petersen, Deputy Director General of the confederation, is impressed with the efforts.

“We have now received inquiries from 170 companies that will attempt to assist with protective and medical equipment. Grundfos and other private companies display a truly unique commitment to society. Many are already squeezed by the crisis on liquidity and staffing, and we all face an uncertain financial future, yet these companies are stepping up,” he says.

Record results in Grundfos strengthens foundation for the future

Grundfos reaches its 10% profitability target one year ahead of time and secures the highest ever sales, employee satisfaction and customer loyalty. Strong traction on sustainability performance continues.

In 2019, net turnover in Grundfos increased by 3% to DKK 27.5bn, which is the highest level in Grundfos’ 75-year history. This corresponds to 2.2% organic growth in local currencies compared to 2018. Earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) grew by 16% to DKK 2.8bn, or 10.1% of turnover. Adjusted for items not related to the operations of the company, the performance EBIT reached 10.6% of net turnover, which makes 2019 the first year the Grundfos Strategy 2020 target of 10% return on net turnover has been achieved.

“We are happy with the financial result and very satisfied with our ability to drive continued growth while positively impacting the world’s climate and water challenges,” says Mads Nipper, CEO and Group President, Grundfos.

Further to the financial results, Grundfos reduced its own water consumption by 10.4% and CO2 emissions by 12.2% compared to 2018. Also, Grundfos realised its highest ever employee motivation and satisfaction score and repeated record-high customer loyalty and satisfaction results.

“We contributed significantly to reduce the energy consumption of our customers, making positive contributions to the world’s climate challenges in the process. And we played an instrumental part of bringing basic water access to more than eight hundred thousand people in close collaboration with our partners,” adds Mads Nipper.

Most of Grundfos’ markets and applications have contributed to the growth. The Group’s core European markets and the global service business demonstrated solid growth throughout the year, while the large markets in China and Americas also experienced growth, although at lower levels than in 2018.

A solid balance sheet enables the company to make long-term decisions without risking financial independence. Equity ratio stands at 68.1% at the end of 2019.

“While we expect 2020 to be a challenging year, the starting point for our Grundfos Strategy 2025 journey is very strong.  We have a strategic ambition to be a key contributor to the world’s climate and water challenges, while continuing to serve our customers even better and deliver solid financial results,” says Mads Nipper.
