Since the beginning of her career, Kiara Advani has made it a habit to play characters of different shades and the talented actress is always willing to walk that extra mile for her roles.

Currently, the young lass is grabbing all the headlines for her de-glam avatar in her upcoming film Kabir Singh; the Hindi remake of the Telugu hit film, Arjun Reddy. Kiara will be seen playing the introverted and shy college belle – Preeti in the film, and those who have seen the original film will agree that it is an extremely challenging role. Being a method actor, Kiara has pushed the envelope in more ways than one, so as to completely immerse herself in her character.

Now hear this bit that this dedicated actor did for her role.

Kiara’s character in the film stays in the college hostel. In reality, Kiara has never experienced the hostel life so, in order to understand how students stay in a hostel, she actually stayed in the hostel for one whole week.

Recounting her first-ever hostel experience, Kiara said, “Since I’m from Mumbai and also went to college in Mumbai I had never stayed in a hostel before but my character Preeti stays in one. I really wanted to understand how life in a hostel is for young students and so I decided to stay in one for a few days. The experience was absolutely enriching and it helped me while I interacted with the students.”

Well, with such kind of prep, it won’t be surprising that Kiara delivers yet another noteworthy performance. Atta girl!

The plus of working on a remake often is that you have a definite reference point for what you’re attempting and you can be prepared for it. However, Kiara Advani, who has seen Arjun Reddy a couple of times, had a different experience while working on Kabir Singh. The actress shot the most intense scene of the film with Shahid Kapoor on her very first day on the set of the film which took a toll on her emotionally.

When asked about the scene, she told BT, “I was just thrown into the deep end right at the start. It’s the toughest scene of the film which I was made to shoot the day I joined the cast. It’s the highest point in Kabir and Priti’s relationship and also one of the highs for Priti’s character. We shot the scene over two days. On the first day, we shot the tail-end of the scene and filmed the rest of it the next morning. When I was sitting on the bench on which we were shooting the scene, I started thinking how I’d do it. In fact, even Shahid had the same thoughts. We had to shoot this scene at that time because of Shahid’s get-up but both of us wished if we could start off with something lighter. Once the camera rolled, things automatically settled in. We were on an emotional high from there. There was a cathartic moment after we finished the scene. It drained me out.”

The scene was shot from several angles which meant the scene was filmed several times. “I wish people appreciate the scene because we had to perform it with the same emotional intensity several times for technical reasons,” says Kiara, adding, “It’s been a personal journey with this character. I had to internalise a lot while playing Priti. She looks simple but she’s the silent-strong sort. Sometimes, playing a simple girl can be so difficult. कियारा आडवाणी की आनेवाली फिल्म कबीर सिंह उनके अब तक के फिल्मी करियर में एक अलग अंदाज की फिल्म है. चूंकि इस फिल्म में कियारा पहली बार इतने इंटेंस किरदार में नजर आने जा रही हैं. दिलचस्प बात यह है कि इस फिल्म के ट्रेलर में आप जब कियारा के प्रीति किरदार को देखते हैं, तो यह अनुमान लगा पाना कठिन होता है कि फिल्म की शूटिंग कितनी कठिन रही होगी. चूंकि प्रीति यानि कियारा उतने संवाद बोलतीं नजर नहीं आयी हैं, जबकि हकीकत यह है कि संवाद न होने के कारण, कियारा को कई दृश्यों में मेहनत करनी पड़ी है, वह मेहनत पर्दे पर भी दिखाई दे रही है.

लोगों के जेहन में यह बात हो सकती है कि रीमेक में काम करना किसी कलाकार के लिए आसान होता होगा.चूंकि वह आसानी से रेफरेंस ले सकता है. लेकिन कियारा के साथ अर्जुन रेडड्ी की इस रीमेक फिल्म कबीर सिंह के दौरान कुछ अलग ही अनुभव रहा है. हालांकि कियारा ने अर्जुन रेड्डी देख रखा था. लेकिन जब वह कबीर सिंह की शूटिंग के लिए फ्लोर पर आयीं, तो नजारा ही कुछ अलग था. कियारा को पहले दिन ही फिल्म के सबसे इंटेंस सीन शूट करने को कह दिया गया था. कियारा के लिए यह एक भावनात्मक सफर रहा.

कियारा ने खुद इस बारे में बात करते हुए बताया कि फिल्म की शूटिंग के शुरुआत में ही मुझे कुछ ऐसे इंटेंस सीन शूट करने थे, जिसने भावनात्मक रूप से मुझसे काफी कुछ लिया. उन्होंने आगे कहा कि यह पूरी फिल्म का सबसे कठिन दृश्य था, जिसकी शूटिंग मुझे पहले दिन ही करनी पड़ी थी. जब आप कबीर सिंह देखेंगे तो महसूस करेंगे कि यह फिल्म में कबीर और प्रीत के रिश्ते के बीच सबसे अहम दृश्य है. साथ ही प्रीति के किरदार को उकेरने वाला भी यह एक महत्वपूर्ण सीन हैं.

कियारा इसी सीन की शूटिंग के पहले दिन का अनुभव साझा करती हुई बताती हैं कि इस सीन को उन्होंने दो दिन में पूरा किया था. पहले दिन सबसे अहम हिस्सा शूट किया. शेष दूसरे दिन पूरा किया.

ऐसे में जब उस सीन में मुझे बेंच पर बैठना था.और मैं जब उस पर बैठी, तो मैं सोचने लगी कि ये सीन मुझे कैसे करना है. यहां तक कि शाहिद के जेहन में भी यही बात थी. कियारा आगे बताती हैं कि शाहिद और मेरे दोनों के मन में ख्याल आया कि शूटिंग के पहले दिन काश, उन्हें कोई हल्के सीन दिये जाते. लेकिन आश्चर्य की बात तब हुई, जब कैमरे तैयार हुआ. सब कुछ अपने आप परफेक्ट होता गया. हम दोनों ने ही उस सीन को बखूबी निभाया.इस सीन की शूटिंग के बाद शाहिद और मुझे दोनों की ही सुकून आया कि हमने उसे अच्छे से निभाया. लेकिन उस दृश्य ने मुझसे भावनात्मक रूप से झकझोर कर रख दिया था.

कियारा ने आगे बताया कि इस सीन को टेक्निकल कारणों से विभिन्न एंगल से शूट किया गया, कि कई बार इसे शूट किया गया. कियारा को पूरी उम्मीद है कि दर्शक इस सीन की सराहना करेंगे, क्योंकि इसे परफॉर्म करने के दौरान उन्हें इमोशन के एक ही स्तर को पूरी तरह से बरकरार रखना था.

कियारा प्रीति के किरदार के बारे में आगे बताते हुए कहती हैं कि उनके लिए इस किरदार के साथ उनकी पर्सनल जर्नी रही है. वह कहती है, प्रीति के इंटेंस के साथ उन्होंने पूरी तरह से न्याय करने की कोशिश की है. चूंकि प्रीति को शांत और सहज होते हुए भी, काफी स्ट्रांग दर्शाना था. कभी-कबी सिंपल लड़की का किरदार निभाना अधिक कठिन हो जाता है. कियारा आगे कहती हंै कि अब जब मैंने यह फिल्म देखी तो मुझे फिल्म देखते हुए लग रहा था कि अरे, इसे करना इतना कठिन नहीं था. चूंकि उस सीन में वह ज्यादा बातें नहीं कर रही हैं. लेकिन बिना शब्दों के अभिनय करना आसान नहीं होता है. यह मेरे लिए भावनात्मक रूप से कठिन रहा .

कियारा शाहिद का तहे दिल से शुक्रिया करना नहीं भूलती हैं. वह कहती हैं कि शाहिद के रूप में को-स्टार होने से उस सीन को परफॉर्म करना आसान रहा. उनके सहयोग से हम इसे बेहतरीन तरीके से परफॉर्म कर पाये.
