Dum Maaro Dum would never have come to life if it wasn’t for Pancham Da’s relentlessness

Dum Maaro Dum holds a special place in all our hearts and its melodious tune makes it a timeless classic. It was a mix of Pancham Da’s creativity and relentlessness that brought this song to life, revealed Vishal Dadlani on MX Player’s Times of Music. Episode 7 of this musical extravaganza  is a special tribute episode that celebrates the one and only ‘Boss’ - R.D. Burman.

And who better to pay this tribute, than the hugely talented acts – Amit Trivedi reimagining R.D. Burman's song Aanewala Pal Janewala Hai while Mohan Kannan and Koco of the band Agnee will reimagine R.D Burman's Hum Kisise Kum Nahi.

The hugely popular composer, singer, performer and songwriter – Vishal Dadlani donned the hat of host for this series and in his chat with Amit Trivedi and Agnee, he spoke about how Dum Maaro Dum was initially rejected in the film and Pancham Da had to convince the director to put it in!

Sharing this trivia, Vishal Dadlani said “There’s a famous Pancham Da song, which had been rejected by the film’s director/producer at the time. When I tell you the name of this song, you may not be able to believe that such an iconic song was rejected. Pancham Da had to convince the director to put this song in at that particular junction in the film. It was only because of his total conviction that the song was shot and even then, it wasn’t certain whether or not the song would actually be kept in the film. This song is the legendary ‘Dum Maaro Dum”!

This MX Original Series sees 20 legendary composers rewrite history and reinvent each other’s most iconic tunes. And, as the world celebrates the 38^th year of  World Music Day, the platform has released an anthem titled Sajda Karoon - dedicated to the spirit of music and the power it has to unite us all. 

Composed, co-produced and beautifully strung together by the very talented Papon, the song will see all artistes from the show lending their voice to the song, including Salim - Sulaiman & Laxmikant - Pyarelal, Viju Shah – Mithoon, Ajay - Atul & Kalyanji - Anandji, Vishal & Shekhar – Bappi Lahiri, Anand - Milind & Sajid – Wajid, Sachin - Jigar & Euphoria, Amit Trivedi, Agnee, Shantanu Moitra – Amaal Mallik, Rajesh Roshan – Himesh Reshammiya and Indian Ocean – Sneha Khanwalkar.

Sharing his experience, Papon says, “Music has the capacity to make you feel and it has the power to unite us. The anthem we have created is an ode to the craft and the special place it holds in everyone’s lives. Sajda Karoon will make you feel the power and passion that this art possesses. It’s always great creating music that can make you drift away and doing so alongside my fellow musicians, who are such legends, made it a lot more meaningful.”

The horror comedy traces the journey of Mohan (Anant Vidhaat) who is stuck between a good looking and loving wife Rimjhim (Riya Sen) and the jealous ghost of his dead wife (Vinny Arora). Worried about his well-being after her death, Surabhi gets Mohan to promise that he would remarry soon and is satisfied with the marriage, until she sees the stunning and beautiful Rimjhim. Seeing her love-struck husband, Surabhi gets jealous and there begins the journey of Pati, Patni aur Woh.

Talking about playing the role of a lovelorn husband torn between his two wives, Anant Vidhaat says, “This series is the perfect mix of humor, love and the added twist of a ghost to tie it all up. I’ve always loved watching a light-hearted comedy drama and acting in this one was even more fun.”

The gorgeous Riya Sen who plays Rimjhim said, “I believe that comedy is the toughest genre to bring alive onscreen but it's something that I really enjoy doing as an actor. After his impactful role in MS Dhoni – the untold story, Kranti Prakash Jha plays Vijay Singh to perfection. Adding light to the character, he says, “Vijay Singh does not follow the usual gangster graph, he did not enter that world out of fascination or because he had a thirst for power. His is a story of struggles to shatter the criminal empire of his adversary. Gang wars have always fascinated me and getting a chance to play a character that is so layered, so real and dangerous really intrigued me”.
