Puneri Paltan lose to UP Yoddha 39-43 in raid thriller

· Manjeet awarded Perfect raider of the match for his performance

· Manjeet completed a personal milestone of 150 points this season and 250 points overall

· Amit Kumar completed 50 points overall

Greater Noida, 6^th October 2019: Puneri Paltan concluded their season with a loss against UP Yoddha 39-43 at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida on Sunday. Puneri Paltan put in a spirited performance in their last outing of the Vivo PKL season 7.

The first half began with the home team inflicting an All-Out in the fifth minute of the match. The trend continued as Rishank Devadiga, Monu Goyat and Surender Singh picked up easy raid points against a Pune defense that lacked cohesion. In the defense captain Nitesh Kumar picked up four points for UP in a first half that saw the home side inflict another All-Out with three minutes remaining for the break. The first half ended 29-15 with UP on top.

Puneri Paltan started the second half with a much better attitude and got their rewards immediately when Manjeet’s two touches fetched them an All-Out in the third minute. Puneri Paltan’s efforts to mount a comeback were successful with the margins reduced to 6 points, Pune tightened their defense, to match UP Yoddha move for move. UP’s Nitesh Kumar secured his High 5 in the fifth minute of the half but both teams failed to open up a healthy lead. Surjeet Singh and Amit Kumar picked up High 5s for a massively improved Pune defense as they levelled the points with under 3 minutes left in the match. Rishank Devadiga managed a two-point raid in the penultimate minute of the match and the home side followed it up with a successful tackle on Nitin Tomar to open a three-point lead. Amit Kumar’s successful two-point raid in the last minute gave UP a lead and they went on to seal the match from there.

Puneri Paltan edge past Telugu Titans 53-50

Panchkula, 3^rd October 2019: Puneri Paltan concluded their Panchkula leg with a win against Telugu Titans 53-50 at the Tau Devilal Sports Complex, Panchkula on Sunday.

The first half began with Puneri Paltan starting on front foot, looking unstoppable. Manjeet (12 points), Sushant Sail (11 points) and Surjeet Singh (7 tackle points) were the stars for the Pune side.

Telugu Titans were the only team playing for a playoff berth but it was Pune who showed more grit in a dominant first-half performance. Titans’ raider Siddharth Desai was successfully tackled by Manjeet in the very first minute and that set the tempo for Paltan as they picked raid points with ease. The Pune raiders, particularly Sushant Sail, exploited the lack of experience in Titan’s defence and picked points with ease. The Pune side inflicted the first All-Out in the 6th minute of the match to move to a 7-point lead and continued their good work to secured another All-Out in the 14th minute to open a 14-point gap. The Titans did manage their way back through some strong raids by the Siddharth Desai but two Super Tackles (by Sushant Sail and Surjeet Singh) ensured they prevented an All-Out. Surjeet clinched his High 5 as the first half ended with the scores 31-16 with Pune well on top.

Sushant Sail started the second half with a massive 4-point Super Raid as Pune rushed to another All-Out in the third minute of the second half. Rakesh Gowda’s four-point raid in the fourth minute of the match gave the Titans some much-needed impetus to push for an All-Out, which they secured in the 9th minute of the second half. Pune continued to approach ‘all guns blazing’ instead of seeing out the remainder of the time which allowed the Titans to clinch another All-Out with 6 minutes remaining to make it a 9-point game. The match became a tense affair in the closing minutes but a three-point Super Raid by Iranian Emad Sedaghatnia helped Pune open up a sizeable lead which their defenders could hold on to till the final whistle.
