Webinar on “Access to Justice by Sharda University

Delhi NCR, April 20, 2020: Due to COVID-19 outbreak, many private universities across country are making efforts to keep teaching-learning on-going process to minimize disruption in the academic schedule. Sharda University, one of the largest State Private Universities in North India with 63 acres of sprawling campus has started a series of Webinars by inviting experts from different verticals to share industry experiences and educate students.

School of Law at Sharda University recently conducted a webinar with Hon’ble Justice Dipak Misra, Former Chief justice of India on the topic “Access to Justice”. 300+ academicians, students and lawyers across the country participated in an interactive session with Justice Misra.

Hon’ble Justice Dipak Misra, Former Chief justice of India said “Access to Justice is queen of all the virtues; law and Courts in India have taken progressive steps to achieve Access to Justice as it remains a continuous challenge. Although justice delivery system exists but important additions are required to make it more effective. It is important that lawyers should be available to the common man in the police stations itself to have easy accessibility”.

Justice Misra further highlighted the need of technology in providing access to Justice. Delhi High Court is completely functional as e-court and justice is accessible to all with ease. In the wake of COVID-19 outbreak, The Supreme Court has directed all district courts across India to switch to video proceedings. The Supreme Court and High Courts are already conducting proceedings via Video Conferencing. He also explained that people should write letters to Chief Justice and Courts take suo-moto action, which only expands the scope of access to justice.

Mr Y K Gupta, Pro Chancellor, Sharda University “highlighted the importance of such interactive webinars for the benefit of faculty and students. We at Sharda University are ensuring seamless online classes during lockdown period and is helping society in the war against Corona”, he said.

Mr Gupta further told that, “Sharda Hospital has set up a 100-bed isolation ward to take care of corona patients and CSE Students have developed robots to help government hospital”.

Prof Sibaram Khara, Vice Chancellor appreciated efforts of School of Law in organizing such contemporary webinars.

Dr. Pradeep Kulshrestha, Dean, School of law, Sharda University said “The Preamble of the Constitution declares Social, Economic and Political Justice as the essential feature of the Indian Constitution. Many Path breaking steps like Public Interest Litigation (PIL) have gone a long way in providing justice to all, but there is a lot more to be achieved and we need to fill the gaps in the system”.

Sharda University continues to deliver all courses via online

Delhi NCR, 13^th April 2020: To minimize disruption in the course schedule, Sharda University, one of the largest State Private Universities in North India with 63 acres of sprawling campus, continues to deliver online classes across all the courses. Due to the lockdown given the COVID-19 outbreak, Sharda University has taken this initiative to ensure that the students’ academic interests aren’t compromised and there is continuity in teaching-learning process.

The University has put together a contingency plan in which the faculty and staff are working towards ensuring a seamless transformation to digital/online learning via technology tools and solutions like Zoom, Big Blue Button, Google Classroom. The iCloud LMS software that the University subscribes is cloud based and highly advanced. Coursera and Swayam are some of the technologies used by the students of School of Design and planning for making their assignments. Teachers and students have access to this software from wherever they are but for students who are in remote areas, teachers are helping them through email, WhatsApp or simply providing an audio lecture for students who do not have high speed internet facilities. Teachers are also providing them with class-notes and assignments with solutions etc. Students and faculty access library from anywhere as University library is made remote login enabled.

Mr. Y K Gupta, Pro Chancellor, Sharda University said, “Online learning, has a lot of potential and even though it has been thrust into the spotlight under unfortunate circumstances it is time that Universities and educational institutions utilize this tool effectively. Our aim is to keep a strict schedule in place so that students are able to complete their courses and projects as per schedule. We are also focusing on the admission procedures through online counsellors so that no student aspiring for a better future is left behind due to the COVID-19 crisis.”

Lots of international students are staying in hostels at the University campus as it would have been impossible for them under the circumstances to leave hostel and travel home. The University has made all the necessary arrangements and taken necessary precautions and contingency measures to ensure safety and well-being of both Indian and international students hostelers.

The students and staff are being educated to ensure that we meet the Government norms of social distancing. Each student has been assigned a single room and the entire campus including hostels is being sanitized regularly as per guidelines issued by UGC. Students in the hostel are being provided with Wi-Fi to allow online access to library resources and aiding them to keep in touch with their family and friends. 

Further emphasising on the health precautionary steps that the university authorities are taking, Mr. Gupta said, “With a fully functioning mess, healthy and hygienically cooked food for all students in the hostel, we make sure that no one is moving out of the campus and taking all precautionary majors to keep them safe and healthy. The hostels are well stocked with all the necessary supplies and medical facilities. We are also providing regular advocacy and information to the students to help them stay informed and aware.”

Sharda University collaborates with SMDHM leads drive for Green and Sustainable Menstruation

-          Around 1000 + women came together at Sharda University took pledge

-          More than 8,000 women from across 45 locations in India

Delhi NCR, 5^th March 2020, SOCIETY OF MENSTRUAL DISORDERS & HYGIENE MANAGEMENT (SMDHM) in collaboration with Sharda University has announced green menstruation drive – an initiative aimed at spreading awareness around safe and sustainable menstruation practices. Around 1000 + women came together at Sharda University to take a pledge to use sustainable menstrual options and products and help in raising awareness and change mindset aided by information on various sustainable options available in market today. More than 8,000 women from across 45 locations in India came together to take this pledge on the eve of International Women's Day. dignitaries present on the occasion to take the pledge included Ms Vrinda Shukla IPS, DCP Women Safety, Ms Tanu Upadhyay, ACP, Women Safety, Ms Saloni Aggarwal, ACP, Women Safety, Gautam Budhnagar, Dr G R C Reddy, VC, Sharda University, Prof PL Kariholu, Pro VC, Sharda University, Dr Manisha Jindal, Dean, SMS&R, Dr Pauline Sharmila, Dean Nursing Sciences & Research, Ms Neerja Roy Chaudhary, MD, India Book of Records, Ms Lata Jain, Director, GoGirl Foundation among others. Dr G R C Reddy spoke about women safety and gender equality and motivated them for their initiative.

Chief Guest of the occasion Ms Vrinda Shukla IPS, DCP, Women Safety said “It is a great initiative undertaken by SMDHM to save the environment and promote green menstruation. The menstrual cycle is a routine faced by every woman and this initiative will encourage them to be more environment-friendly in the products they use. It is important to understand that the need of Menstrual hygiene and 2 months back I myself has switched to the greener and eco-friendly sanitary pad made up of bamboo.”

She further added “Women safety is of utmost importance; we should not encourage any kind of abuse against ourselves both at public spaces and private spaces. There are helplines where you can register your complaints and your identity will not be revealed.”

On the occasion Dr Manisha Jindal, Dean, SMS&R at Sharda University said, “A woman's life revolves around children, they are her treasure so SMDHM has extended goals of complete health for women and children by educating them about proper disposal of menstruation sanitation products and Eco-friendly, sustainable menstruation. Through this mission of ours, we want to create awareness about hazards of single use sanitary pads and tampons and urge girls and women to switch to other eco-friendly options like cups and cloth pads.”

Elaborating on the initiative Dr Shehla Jamal, President SMDHM and Assistant Professor at Sharda University said “Disposable pads contain

90 per cent plastics and each pad is equivalent to four plastic bags, it causes both health and environmental hazards.  India’s annual menstrual waste estimated at 1,13,000 tonnes where a single woman can generate up to 150 kg of non-biodegradable waste, an average of more than 11,000 disposable menstrual products throughout the course of her life. It takes around 800-1000 years to decompose plastic waste generated by 355 million of women. Sanitation workers are exposed to the risk of infections like Hepatitis C it also blocks and clogs the drainage system.”

The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (MDWS) also shows that 28 per cent of such pads are thrown with routine waste, 33 per cent are disposed of via burial and 15 per cent are burnt openly. In India, more than half of India’s women and girls use disposable napkins, translating to 44.9 billion pads per year thrown away. The carbon footprint from making disposable female hygiene products is around 15 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year – which is equivalent of burning 35 million barrels of oil.

SMDHM also registered to get recognition in the India Book of Records with a title “Maximum women taking oath on green menstruation at multiple place.”

Most of the Sharda University faculty from School of Medical Sciences, Allied Health Sciences and Nursing Sciences and Research were present for this pledge taking ceremony.

New Delhi Oct 23^rd, 2019 - Welcoming the festival of lights , Sharda University in collaboration with Antar Rashtriya Sahayog Parishad (ARSP) conducted an event to celebrate the upcoming festival of Diwali among the international students’ community residing in Delhi & NCR region on Tuesday, the 22nd October 2019 at the Sharda University campus. More than 800 international students from around 50-60 countries took part in this grand celebration. The event was made memorable through a wide array of colorful and attractive performances which includes Indian classical, folk and International cultural art forms. To grace the occasion Honourable Speaker of the Lok Sabha – Shri Om Birla was invited as the Chief Guest.

India is today a home to a large number of international students from across the globe. These students after completion of their education take back life-long memories of their knowledge and experiences collected over their period of time spent in India. These students in fact, act as our voluntary Cultural Ambassadors in their respective countries, for life. Hence, it is very important to introduce them to the ethos and history behind different festivals celebrated in this land in a proper and authentic way.

Addressing the occasion Shri Om Birla, Honourable Speaker Lok Sabha said, “A festival is an active state of the mind and brings about refreshment in lives. The most amazing and appealing part about any festival is that it surpasses religion, ethnicity, and all the shackles, small or big, which usually set people apart. Festivals inculcate and promote the message of brotherhood and unity.”

Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Hon’ble Member of Parliament and Ex-Minister of Culture & Tourism Govt. of India was also present on the occasion and said,” The significance of the festival may carry nuanced differences according to region and within the traditions. However, despite all the differences, a common symbolism remains – Festive are the occasions that mark love, prosperity, harmony and peace.” He further added,” I am feeling so happy to see how organizers have combined the high spirit of Diwali and the ‘Joy of Cultural Sharing’ by celebrating the festival with their national and international friends at the exotic campus.”

Commenting on the occasion Mr. Pradeep Kumar Gupta, Chancellor, Sharda University and Chairman, SGI said, “The beauty of such events is that they bring cultures and communities together. Uzbekistan, 21^st October 2019- Sharda University - An institute of excellence, inspiring value-based education, research and development, is all set to take forward its legacy of providing world class quality education to all by opening a new campus in Uzbekistan. Earlier this year, an agreement was signed at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in India between the Khokim of Andijan region Shukhratbek Abdurakhmanov and the Head of Sharda Group Pradeep Kumar Gupta regarding the opening of a new campus in the Andijan region. Sharda University will be opening under the President’s decree and after 3 years will be shifting to another 100 acres campus that has been allocated by the Government of Uzbekistan. The students will be awarded Degree of Government of Uzbekistan after completion of their courses.

Sharda University hosts 6th International Conference on CSR & Sustainable Development

- Society for Education and Research Development& School of Business Studies, Sharda University jointly organized 2-day conference to initiate discussions around making the world a better place to live

New Delhi, 14^th Oct 2019:  With rising concerns around climate change, environment protection, ever increasing pollution levels, and waste management, the role of new-age corporate businesses in addressing social challenges and promoting ethical business practices is gaining significant importance. Keeping this as the focus, the School of Business Studies at Sharda University-hosted the 6th International Conference on CSR & Sustainable Development in Collaboration with INDIACSR, India, APACCXO FORUM and Department of Social Work, Chaudhary Bansi Lal University, Bhiwani, Haryana.

The 2-day long conference was aimed at initiating serious conversations around sustainable development. As part the forum, industry leaders discussed about the role of modern businesses in building a economically prosperous and environmentally viable society.

The event witnessed overwhelming participation by representatives from the corporates, government agencies, NGOs, civil society and the academia. The participants aligned their thoughts on the responsibilities of citizens and businesses towards the overall society and discussed various frameworks to develop the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) practice across industries.

Inaugurating the conference, H.E. Milan Hovorka, Ambassador of Czech Republic to India said, “CSR activities are very essential to improve the quality of life. The concept of CSR should integrate human rights and act as a complementary concept to business profitability. While conducting CSR activities corporate should also keep in mind the complexities and interrelationship of various stakeholders and work towards a seamless and sustainable eco-system.”

School of Law, Sharda University organized an Intra Legal Quizzard

School of Law, Sharda University organised an Intra Legal Quizzard, the Quiz competition sponsored by Legal Sutra law firm. The Chief Guests for the competition was Advocate Vinod Kaushik, Managing Director of Legal Sutra firm. The competition witnessed participation of 30 teams going through several rounds including 2 tie-breakers for which there was a cash prize of Rs. 5100/- for the winning team along with a trophy and certificate of excellence. Winners of the competition were final year students Bharat, Sachin and Tanuj while second position was secured by first year students Monu Upadhyay, Vaishnavi Mishra and Aadarsh. The winners were felicitated by the Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Kulshreshtha (Dean), Co-Convener Dr. Ritu Gautam and Ms. Divyasheel Tripathi along with the other Faculty Coordinators.

Sharda University organizes Orientation Programme for Ph.D. Scholars

More than 100 students attended the Orientation programme organized by Research and Technology Development Centre (RTDC)

Greater Noida, September 12, 2019: Sharda University, an institute of excellence, inspiring value-based Education, Research and Development, recently conducted an Orientation Programme for its newly joined Ph. D scholars. The orientation was facilitated by Sharda University’s Research and Technology Development Centre (RTDC). Dr G. R. C. Reddy, Vice Chancellor, Sharda University, Mr. R. P. Agrawal, Advisor to Chancellor, Dr.HSP Rao, Dean (Research) and Dr. Shri Kant were present during the programme to motivate and guide them for their journey ahead.

To grace the occasion Dr. Karmeshu, eminent Mathematician and Computer Scientist, Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Awardee, who is presently working with Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Shiv Nadar University was invited. He encouraged students to bring best out of them by asking them to focus and deliver. He provided many insights to make students familiar with the current research trends and guided them about the mathematical modeling and its importance in various field.

Prof. G. R. C. Reddy, Vice Chancellor, Sharda University on the occasion said, “We welcome the new entrants and want them to be passionate about their work and come up with something new thereby bringing laurels not only to their institution but to the society at large”. 

He further added “research and innovation are the only way to reduce the gap between industry and academia. Thus it is very important for the scholars to enjoy their research topic and help the industries with best possible results. 

The key objectives of orientation programme are:

• To familiarize them with the rules, regulations and procedures pertaining to Ph.D. program of the University.
• Get to hear from eminent industry speakers on the scope for career advancement, challenges and opportunities that await them.
• Meet faculty, staff, students and familiarize themselves with the culture, unique teaching-learning practices, activities and resources.

Some of the other eminent people present for the Orientation programme were Prof N. B. Singh, Distinguished Professor, Prof R. C. Singh, CoE, Professor Shri Kant and Prof Ashok Kumar who also conducted the panel discussion.

The RTDC at Sharda University has been established to perform cutting edge research in the frontier areas of Science, Engineering and Medicine. The centre is well equipped with state of the art facilities and works in collaboration with various institutions of repute both at the national and international level. The current activities which are being pursued at RTDC focus on multidisciplinary aspects and many of them are being supported by the Research Agencies of Government of India.
