·         Sterlite Power’s Convergence Business Unit has delivered 100% Optical Fiber Network in Gurugram sub city 2 to GMDA to make the city smart and safe
·         The fiber network has provided connectivity to government buildings, business clusters, and used for critical applications like security, surveillance, and e-governance
New Delhi, 16 July 2020: Sterlite Power, a leading global player in power transmission, has completed its Gurugram Smart City project for creating an intracity fiber network for the city’s communication needs. The company’s Convergence Business had entered a PPP (Public-Private Partnership) agreement with GMDA (Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority) to build, manage and maintain the fiber network in Gurugram sub city 2 for 21 years.
In this project, Sterlite Power has installed four underground ducts that carry fibers connecting all the Bus stops, Schools, Police stations, Government buildings along with various private buildings. Two ducts among these are dedicated to Gurugram smart city’s operation and the other two can be commercially used by communication service providers. The entire route is updated through Geographic Information System (GIS) along with an integrated fiber monitoring system for proactive monitoring as well as preventive and corrective maintenance.
This Public-Private Partnership has created a world-class optical fiber infrastructure to place Gurugram smart city at par with global standards. It provides fiber connectivity to GMDA’s ICCC (Integrated Command and Control Centre) which served as Gurugram’s Covid-19 war room for distribution of food and relief material.
Sterlite Power’s Convergence Business unit is one of the leading providers of best-in-class dark fiber solutions in the country utilizing its highly reliable OPGW network. The increasing demand for data has received another surge due to the work from home and learn from home arrangements in the pandemic situation, which is becoming the new normal. With future technologies like 5G, IoT, M2M communications, development of intra-city fiber infrastructure turns out to be critical which will enable Telcos, ISPs, MSOs with superior fiber for FTTX. With Sterlite Power’s expertise in designing, deploying, and maintaining Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) and All-Dielectric Self-Supporting (ADSS) fiber networks, we aim to provide best-in-class communication infrastructure and solutions by creating the most reliable network.

Sterlite Power Successfully Concludes Refinancing of Gurgaon Palwal Transmission Project with HDFC Bank

New Delhi, 6 July 2020: Sterlite Power, a leading global power transmission player, announced the successful refinancing of the loan for Gurgaon Palwal Transmission Limited [GPTL] project, within 3 months of the project becoming fully operational in April 2020. The new financing to prepay the existing project loan of INR 800 crores has been arranged by HDFC Bank. The new facility has been availed at significantly favourable terms demonstrating the considerably improved risk profile of the project post achievement of CoD (Date of Commercial Operation).
With this transaction, Sterlite Power has achieved a reduction of almost 300 basis points in the interest cost to be incurred by the project on a per annum basis. The refinancing of this critical ISTS project also highlights the keen interest of financial institutions in funding power transmission projects with stable long-term cash flows.
Mr. Pratik Agarwal, Managing Director, Sterlite Power, said, "We are pleased to conclude refinancing of our GPTL project loan by India’s leading financial institution, HDFC Bank. It is a testimony of the continued trust reposed on us by the banking and investor community for our ability to deliver challenging projects on time, with the highest standards of quality and safety, while delivering strong returns.”
Successfully commissioned in the month of April 2020, the GPTL project connects ~2000 MW additional power to Gurugram and Palwal areas in the state of Haryana in India. Apart from making Gurugram DG-set free, this project will enable access to reliable power for more than 3 million households in the state. This project has implemented India’s first vertical GIS substations built at Prithla, Kadarpur and Sohna. Apart from saving land, this innovation has resulted in offsetting more than 18,000 tons of CO2 emissions each year as compared to  conventional layout of a similar GIS substation.

Sterlite Power Acquires WRSS-XIX & NERSS-IX Strengthening Scheme from PFC

Sterlite Power, a leading global power transmission player, announced the acquisition of Vapi II North Lakhimpur Transmission Limited (VNLTL), a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) from PFC Consulting Limited. Through this SPV, the company will execute a large inter-state transmission system (ISTS) project - Western Region Strengthening Scheme-XIX (WRSS-XIX) and North Eastern Region Strengthening Scheme-IX (NERSS-IX), which it won through a tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process, under the Build, Own, Operate and Maintain (BOOM) model for 35 years.
The Western Region Strengthening Scheme – XIX (WRSS-XIX) involves setting up of 318 ckm of lines and 1000 MVA transformation capacity across three distinct parts:
  • Part A involves setting up 35 ckm lines in Gujarat to help distribute renewable energy being generated in the state to a wider set of consumers.
  • Part B aims to establish a 1000 MVA substation in Vapi along with 51 ckm of lines to bring clean nuclear power from Kakrapar Atomic Power Plant in Gujarat for further distribution across the Union Territories of Daman, Diu and Dadra Nagar Haveli.
  • Part C aims to set up 179 ckm of lines for critical system strengthening and decongesting the evacuation system in Navi Mumbai area.  The link brings an ISTS feed of about 1000 MW into the Mumbai region to cater to its growing energy requirements which is expected to increase owing to Navi Mumbai Airport and Navi Mumbai SEZ, coming up in the region.
The North Eastern Region Strengthening Scheme–IX (NERSS-IX), on the other hand, involves strengthening of the north-eastern transmission network by setting up 85 ckm of lines in the states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The transmission system will facilitate the evacuation of hydro power from 110 MW Pare Hydro-Electric Project situated in Arunachal Pradesh, thereby playing an instrumental role in boosting the green energy agenda of the country.
Commenting on the acquisition, Pratik Agarwal, Managing Director, Sterlite Power, said, “Integrating renewable energy to the grid is the need of the hour. This single project with its various sub-elements brings in clean and green energy from solar, nuclear and hydro for people across the western and north eastern region in India. Further it will play a key role in decongesting the Navi Mumbai transmission corridor while catering to the ever-growing needs of the financial capital - Mumbai. Through such strategic projects, we are happy to be building the renewable energy lifeline for the country.”
Sterlite Power is already constructing its other transmission assets in the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, including critical corridors that are part of India’s Green Energy Corridor (GEC).
