of Design (WUD) is setting the stage to present CULT 2019, a plethora of exciting events with the theme CREATE. UNIFY. LIBERATE. TRANSFORM. REPEAT. The two days Inter-College Annual Cultural & Design Festival - “CULT 2019” is to be held on 18th & 19th October, 2019 at the exotic World University of Design (WUD) campus. The one - of - a kind fest, CULT 2019 - a culmination of art, fashion, creativity, music, theatre, dance and sports - shall put to test the intellectual, artistic, creative, oratory, sporty and performing skills of the aspiring 1800-2000 youths across the country. It is a platform for talent to compete among college fraternities.

The two days of extravaganza will be a perfect blend of competitive and entertaining activities is all set to ignite minds, illuminate thoughts and inspire hearts. CULT 2019 will be honored to be graced by the esteemed presence of Dr. Sanjay Gupta, the Vice Chancellor as the chief guest of the inaugural ceremony. Teams from numerous design  & other colleges including Ashoka University, College of Art, LSR, Janki Devi, Gargi, Jamia Milia, Hansraj, Bhagat Singh, Deshbandhu, Zakir Hussain, FDDI, IMT, DCRUST etc will be participating.

A myriad of exhilarating events are lined up with loads of exciting prizes to offer. Day one will start with the inauguration ceremony followed by Group dance Competition, Wall Art, Live Sketching, Incubing Challenge along with other engaging events. The day will end with the mesmerizing live performance by Rimi Nique – International singer and a songwriter

Day two will witness the street play competition. One can also watch teams battle it out to the finish line in events such as Live Sketching, battle of band, singing as also the spectacle on the catwalk - the fashion show competition. The show will conclude on a grand pro-night with the Indian Idol finalist Hardeep Singh, followed by the after-party  where everybody dance, sing and party to the beats of DJ Night.

The highlight of the fest is the entrepreneurial “In-Cubing Challenge” aimed at giving wings to the entrepreneurial spirit of the students and encourage them to present innovative start-up ideas in front of experts from various industries and subsequently, win an opportunity for incubation.

World University of Design Hosted 3rd- Edition of Global Goals Jam

• Two – day Service Design Jam focused on Sustainable Development Goals set by the UNDP with special focus on #eWaste
• 70 participants across India presented their ideas to achieve UNDPs Sustainable Goal #SDG12 - Responsible Consumption & Ethical production

Delhi NCR, September 25, 2019 - World University of Design (WUD) - India's first and only University dedicated to education in the creative domain successfully concluded the India Edition of the special Two-day global event focusing on Design Thinking & service design methodologies - Global Goals Jam 3.0 (GGJ) from September 20 and 21, 2019. This year’s theme focuses on the growing issue of #eWaste. It is in-line with #SDG12 - Responsible Consumption & Ethical production.

Seventy participants from across India, divided into 10 groups, participated in the workshop presented their ideas and vision for the future. Some of the innovative solution showcased include the issue of electronic waste created in the space and create solutions to reduce/ reuse/ recycle it. All the 10 teams came up with innovative ideas to solve the problem of e-waste management, unsustainable manufacturing and consumption of electronic products that have become redundant.

Some of the challenges given to students to present their ideas and prepare their prototypes were:

• How to get an average user interested in eWaste Management?
• How can we spread awareness about what is eWaste?
• How does one work towards segregation of eWaste?
• What could be the various ways of Reuse, Recycle, Reduce and upcycle eWaste?
• How can we scale a given eWaste solution?

Based on the challenges given to the students, some of the prototypes included - Affordable housing through the reuse of #eWaste,  , An ATM like machine where one can dump their old gadgets which can be recycle and reuse, Trash It Up – An App which consist of products made of #eWaste , Renting old products, Space Debris – A global issue which needs to be addressed and Tools for the workers in #eWaste segregation industries

GGJ is an international platform for inclusive learning where people from all around the world contribute to the 17 global goals for sustainable development of UNDP by sharing their stories, projects and visions for the future. Presently this event is happening across 60 cities in the world.

All the projects will be shared with UNDP&UNESCO for evaluation and global rollout. This is the part of the Global Goal Jam procedure.

Some Eminent personalities presented during the Two – day workshop includes Mr. Saurabh Jain, Vice President, Paytm, Mr. Abhishek Chaswal, Executive Creative Director, McCann Worldgroup and Anand Jha, Vice President – 1MG. They interacted with students, discussed about their ideas and guided them on the methodology.

Commenting on the occasion Dr Sanjay Gupta, Vice Chancellor, World University of Design said “This year’s global goal jam marked a new milestone for World University of Design as the event happening in our university marked to be the biggest edition of the Global Goal Jam with maximum entries among all the cities. He further added “We feel privilege to host GGJ for third consecutive year and wish to conduct such events in future so that we can contribute our bit towards the better world”.

Commenting on the occasion Chief Guest Mr. Saurabh Jain, Vice President, Paytm said “This is an impressive initiative step by the university and wish them all the best for such meaningful events in future. I myself being a part of UN Global compact sessions and firmly believes that these 17 challenges are very important for every individual to focus upon and eWaste is one of those challenges which needs eye of an hour as countries are dominated by the technologies so is the eWaste. He also said that Design is the driver in various businesses now-a-days. He further added “I am very excited to look some fantastic design related ideas which cater to solve the problems of eWaste”.

The participants shared their perspective and experiences about the workshop. Discussing about the project – Affordable housing through eWaste one of the students from the team said, “I am always keen towards the design thinking processes and prototyping. Having a good house in our country has become next to impossible. Thus, we worked on an idea how we can use #eWaste as an affordable housing solution. The good thing about the Global Goal Jam is that it gives opportunity to work with people from different backgrounds and institutions and you get an opportunity to collaborate with them, and you get different perspectives and a new way to look at the problem, also to find solutions for the same.”

World University of Design lays out new pathways for Careers in Visual Arts

-          Announces eight specialized courses addressing path-breaking professional aspirations of creative students

New Delhi, July 25, 2019: Art has been one of the key unifying factors for the Indian society. However, there is still a lot to be done to give the industry its due credit in outlining Visual Arts as the ultimate means of expression. Realizing the potential of Visual Arts, the World University of Design (WUD) - India's first and only university dedicated to the creative domain, is offering eight specially curated courses in Visual Arts discipline for young students in India.

Applications for admission can be made online on the University’s website. Admission will be through an Aptitude test. The new session is due to start in August. WUD has announced over 3 crores worth of scholarships to attract meritorious students to its programs.

Visual Arts represents a wide variety of artistic practices, with a special focus on creative painting, fashion and technology-based arts. The School of Visual Arts at WUD is a great platform for budding artists offering the right blend of traditional and non-traditional art techniques to students. The University offers diploma & degree level courses in Visual Arts. Graduates from this field get the choice of joining software companies, publishing houses, art studios, freelancing, etc. One can start working as a critic or an art specialist as well. One can also join creative departments of advertising agencies, magazines, newspapers in the publishing industry; textile industry, electronic media, films, art historian, art dealer, art therapist, art educatorand theatre are other options. World University of Design organizes seminar to brings into focus Higher Education in Art

Mumbai, June 10, 2019: Great Minds in the world of Art came together to discuss the issues and challenges faced by Art Education in the face of an evolving eco-system that is majorly influenced by technology, society and demographics. World University of Design organized an intensive brainstorming seminar in collaboration with think-tank of eminent artists, art educators, curators and industry leaders in an effort to rethink the existing education framework and move towards a futuristic & contemporary understanding of the art education. 

The seminar elaborated on the emerging education landscape especially in India in the coming years and how institutions are responding to these changes and challenges. The Seminar was organized by The School of Visual Arts, World University of Design on 7^th June at the Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi. Some of the well-known and eminent personalities and artists who were a part of the seminar included Mr. Adwaita Charan Gadanayak (Dir Gen, NGMA), Mr. J Manu Parekh, Senior Artist, Mr. Suresh Goel (Dir General, EEMA and ex-DG, ICCR) and Ms. Sushma Bahl (former Head (Art & Culture), British Council) among others.

Addressing the Seminar Dr Sanjay Gupta, Vice Chancellor, World University of Design said, “The world of Art is undergoing a rapid transformation. Even as contemporary art continues its movement in the conceptual and experiential direction; object-based, archival art continues to hold its ground. These are crucial times for art education too. The last document on art education in schools was made by CBSE a decade back and there has never been any study in the higher education domain. Almost all our visual art degree institutions continue to be modernist in their structures. Though some have opened up to material and conceptual explorations, they are not in a position to provide the pedagogical, structural and material infrastructure. Besides education fields like curatorial practices, and art management have emerged as key areas of cultural practice and can no longer be seen as auxiliary to the visual art industry (which has traditionally kept art making as its center).”

Sharing his experiences about the seminar Adwaita Charan Gadanayak Dir, NGMA, said “Art does not have a fixed way of teaching, but the role of the teacher is key students to get motivated and excel.” Recounting his days at the College of Arts he said how his teachers like Gogi Saroj Pal, Dhiraj Choudhury prepared them to be artists in a fast-evolving world with its changing material culture. 

Sharing his experiences about the seminar Senior Artist, Manu Parekh, said “The relation for an artist to his immediate social and cultural environment is key to quality of art and depth of practice. Even after many years of independence we still have not evolved our own approach to art education. Our colleges still rely heavily on studio-based practice and have no space where the student engages with the society and his/her larger cultural environment. It is important for new art schools to embrace this issue and develop models towards the future.”

World University of Design partners Oxford Brookes University, UK for their Undergraduate Course in Built Environment and Habitat Studies

Mumbai, May 31, 2019: According to recent study by UN, by 2050, 68% of the world’s population is expected to live in urban areas. Built Environment Studies is a 3yr program and is concerned with providing a liberal understanding of spatial designing within the context of a built environment. The course caters to emerging areas within the architectural space like built environment design (in areas such as heritage), Policymaking, Architectural/Built Environment journalism, research or education, BIM modeling, Architectural rendering, Curation etc.

Curatorial Practices in Art

This master’s level program addresses the emerging requirement for art and design curators. Offering a hands-on curriculum that balances collaboration and socially engaged practices, the program covers academic research in history and theory. Museum curator, Independent curator or consultant, Foundation/ gallery or museum director, Art critic, Writer, Archivist, Art collections manager, Exhibit designer are few careers options one can choose from after completion of the course.

Fashion Art

Not every fashion designer wants to be bothered with making patterns and stitching their creations. Visualizing high fashion as an art form is itself a career option. Fashion brands, design houses, architects, graphic design companies, advertising agencies, media, event and entertainment companies, trend forecasters and the publishing industry are always looking out for and hiring this profile. This course is designed to help students understand the nature of creativity by letting go of stale habits and conditioning that prevent one from making contact with the natural flow of creative energy.

Animation & Game Design

Animation & Gaming Industry in India is acquiring a global identity providing many employment opportunities around the globe. Digital Drawing & Illustration

This unique course is specially designed to keep pace with changing technology and its impact on art and culture. New Delhi, April 12, 2019: Design as a profession will be one of the top professions in demand leading to an increased demand for designers across categories including white goods, FMCG, Auto, Electronics, Gaming, Media & Entertainment to name a few. World University of Design (WUD), India's first and only university dedicated to education in the creative domain, has announcedadmissions for 2019-20 session for its undergraduate, post graduate, diploma and PhD courses.

Admission will be conducted through a Design Aptitude Test (DAT), AAT (Art Aptitude Test) and GAT (Graduate Aptitude Test)followed by a personal interview, details of which are also available online at www.worlduniversityofdesign.ac.in/. Duly filed forms can be submitted online as well as offline for the Entrance Exams scheduled for 21st April 2019.

Valid scores of NIFT, NID, CEED and UCEED exams can be considered in lieu of DAT and those of CET, CAT, MAT and XAT in lieu of GAT. The University also accepts SAT SCORES for admissions.
