THE
SWADDLE
TheSwaddle covers the latest in health, gender, and
culture in India — and why it matters.
TheSwaddle,
India’s only women’s health and culture site with a strong feminist lens,
publishes original news, features, and opinion daily on healthcare, science,
gender, mental health, and culture. In its news and culture analysis,
TheSwaddle often focuses on issues that aren’t openly discussed because of
social or cultural taboos.
TheSwaddle is committed to its editorial mission: to
present a unique perspective on gender in urban Indian media. Whether addressing
the dearth of reliable women's health information in India through responsible
and carefully researched reporting, countering myths, misinformation, and
stigma regarding sexuality, mental health, and other taboos in Indian culture,
The Swaddle seeks to promote an inclusive, gender equal perspective
What originally started as a maternal health resource
quickly expanded to cover global breaking health and science news, with a
specific focus on how it relates to women’s health in India. TheSwaddle's Resources
section has become the comprehensive go-to guide on basic health and mental
health for hundreds of thousands of Indian women every month.
The Swaddle’s gender and culture reporting unpacks so
much that is in flux in Indian society: gender stereotypes in media, workplace,
and the home, and evolving notions of masculinity and sexuality. Whether
through reporting, op-eds, video, podcasts, campaigns, or live events,
TheSwaddle aims to dismantle harmful norms and provide alternative
perspectives.
"We gain a lot of insights from our readers on
the issues that impact them daily. When we post on social media seeking sources
for stories on online harassment, or beauty norms, or gender stereotypes, we
get inundated with messages from readers who are pushing back on the way things
have always been. Mindsets are changing so quickly in India, and we're so
excited to be able to document and support that," says Bookman.
