Gourmet Passport initiated an online ‘Share your Old Monk Memory’ contest, where people shared their most memorable experiences with the Old Monk rum. Responses ranged from people sharing their memories of Old Monk helping them gather the courage to make a marriage proposal, bringing old friends back for annual reunions, and even starting their own businesses!
World Rum Day is celebrated globally on the second Saturday of July, to celebrate rum and rum distilleries. Lucky winners were chosen from each platform basis how interesting, fun, and moving their stories were. The winners were also featured in a video with Gourmet Passport Founder and Old Monk ambassador, Rocky Mohan where he addresses their questions about the Old Monk Rum.

One of the winners - “This is not my own memory but when the friend of a friend went to St Petersburg recently, he contracted COVID and had to be hospitalized. Every evening, a nurse came to his room with a tray with three pills and one shot of a brown drink. Suspiciously, he asked what medicines he was being administered and was told about Favipiravir and two other common remedies (forgetting which ones). “So, what’s in the glass?” He asked. Came the deadpan reply “Old Monk rum. It is our standard operating procedure”. Needless to say, the young man was discharged from the hospital after 3 days and is now back in his hometown.”
