September 26,2022

Danfoss India & CII-GBC Report on “Decarbonization of Indian Industries” provides key insights to reduce carbon emissions in select industrial sectors to support our Net Zero sustainability journey in line with India’s Panchamrit commitment at COP26.

·         Living up to its promise as a preferred decarbonization partner for its customers, Danfoss India launched the new highly efficient and environmentally friendly Danfoss Turbocor® TGS series compressor that can be used with ultra-low GWP refrigerants (Global warming potential) for HVACR (Heating, Ventilation, and Air conditioning) applications.

New Delhi, September 26, 2022:  Danfoss Industries Pvt Ltd., an industry leader in climate & energy tech solutions in association with CII- Godrej Green Building Council (GBC), launched a report on "Decarbonization of Indian Industrial Sector" at the recent Energy Efficiency Summit & Awards 2022, held at India Habitat Center, New Delhi.

The report was unveiled by H. E. Freddy Svane, Ambassador of Denmark to India, Ravichandran Purushothaman, Chairman – CII National Energy Efficiency Council & President – Danfoss India, Ashok Kumar, Dy. Director General- Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), R.K.Rai, Secretary- BEE in the presence of K. S. Venkatagiri, Exec. Director, CII- GBC and other dignitaries.

This report examines how the Indian industrial ecosystem currently operates concerning carbon emissions and offers key insights on how to reduce them, paying special attention to key industries such as Indian steel, paper, cement, textile, and chemicals. By exploring a BAU and Rapid Action scenario, the report recommends decarbonization pathways which can help accelerate the rapid reduction of emissions in these sectors, thereby contributing to India’s Climate Action goals.

Speaking on this occasion, Ravichandran Purushothaman said, "As a global organization serving the world's energy efficiency needs for over nine decades now, we at Danfoss are deeply committed to India's decarbonization and sustainability journey. We thank the CII GBC for this timely and insightful report which highlights the importance of Energy Efficiency and latest decarbonization solutions as India's quick green path to sustainability in an affordable manner for India’s better tomorrow."

In line with its philosophy of being a preferred decarbonization partner to its customers, Danfoss India also launched a new highly energy efficient and environmentally friendly Danfoss Turbocor® TGS series compressor at this Summit. The new Danfoss Turbocor® TGS Series compressor can be used with ultra-low GWP (Global warming potential) refrigerants. At the exhibition which happened along the sidelines of the Summit, Danfoss showcased a broad range of its energy-efficient solutions like Drives, Compressors, PHE’s, Industrial Refrigeration Solutions, Sensing Solutions etc. to power green transformation in HVACR industry.

Commenting upon the Green Turbocor launch, Madhur Sehgal, Head-Climate Solutions, Danfoss India Region said, "We are the pioneer of the Danfoss Turbocor® - the world's first oil-free magnetic bearing compressor for the HVAC industry. A new addition to the portfolio in the form of Green Turbocor® TGS series compressor is a testimony of our commitment to deliver industry-leading innovative technology to our customers that are 40% more efficient than equivalent compressors in this size range." Furthermore, it will offer peace of mind to the customers as there will be no performance degradation over the compressor's life, thereby reducing operating costs and maintenance, he added.

Danfoss has said it would put sustainability at the center of its Core & Clear 2025 strategy and is ambitious to take leading positions within Decarbonization, Circularity, and Diversity & Inclusion. Danfoss' products and solutions address the technological gaps in urbanization, food security, electrification, digitalization, and climate change, enabling the world to ‘do more with less’.

Anju Mary Kuruvilla, Director- Industry Affairs & Sustainability at Danfoss India stated, "India is going through unprecedented growth in every sector, which will result in a surge in energy demand & consumption in the nation over the next two decades, thus putting enormous pressure on our resources. Considering India's carbon neutrality commitment by 2070, Danfoss with CII –GBC looked at some of the best possible solutions for deep decarbonization in few key industrial sectors through low carbon levers and technologies, that are readily available today. Here, Energy Efficiency will play a huge role in India's Decarbonization journey, contributing to nearly 40% of the overall industrial emission reductions."
