Chennai, October 24, 2024: In a powerful display of commitment to Breast Cancer Awareness, Apollo Cancer Centres and Sundari Silks successfully hosted the "DrapePink" initiativea vibrant two-day saree showcase and awareness eventat the Sundari Silks showroom in T. Nagar, Chennai, on October 22nd and 23rd, 2024. In partnership with Apollo ProHealth, this event, a part of the #TalkPink-PinkPattu Campaign, served as an information hub focused on breast cancer prevention, detection, and survival.
The Chief Guest, Ms. Khushbu Sundar, the Indian politician, actress, and film producer, participated in the grand unveiling of DrapePink. The event featured a stunning array of elegant sarees, transforming the space into a pink haven. She was joined by Ms. Suneeta Reddy, Managing Director of Apollo Hospitals, Ms. Pavithra Manmohan, Director of Sundari Silks, and a team of breast oncologists from Apollo Cancer Centres.
A highlight of the event was the creative presentation of Sundari Silks' sarees, artistically shaped into the iconic pink breast cancer ribbon. This globally recognized symbol of hope and awareness in the fight against breast cancer was crafted to convey the strength and resilience of breast cancer survivors and the wider community. This thoughtful display beautifully captured the essence of the collaboration between Apollo Cancer Centres and Sundari Silks, merging cultural heritage with a powerful message of breast cancer advocacy.
"DrapePink" reaffirmed a strong dedication to raising public health awareness about breast cancer. The meet-and-greet session offered attendees a meaningful opportunity to engage in open discussions about breast health and learn essential breast self-examination techniques. Each participant received a copy of ArtCana beautifully illustrated book published by Apollo Cancer Centres. The book highlights the eight steps of breast self-examination, empowering women aged 25-50 to take proactive steps in managing their health. ArtCan, initiated by Apollo Cancer Centres, harnesses the therapeutic power of art to support cancer patients and raise awareness.
Ms. Khushbu Sundar remarked, "As women, we carry immense strength within us, and its crucial to channel that strength towards taking care of our health. Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among Indian women, affecting 25.8 out of every 100,000 women and resulting in 12.7 deaths per 100,000 women. The incidence is notably high in urban areas like Chennai, Bangalore, and Delhi, reflecting an alarming upward trend over the years. Young age is a significant risk factor, underscoring the importance of early education and intervention to improve outcomes and save lives.
