FAM OFFCE

Today, a delegation from the Federation of Associations of Maharashtra (FAM) met with Shri Piyush Goyal  to discuss the ongoing issue regarding the non-issuance of NOCs by the Steel Ministry. The delegation included President Jitendra Shah, Director General Pritesh Shah, Executive Committee Member Ramesh Kotadia, Sunil Agarwal (President, Stainless Steel Merchant Association), along with Sanjiv Mehta and Vipul Bhide from SKM Steel. Shri Goyal gave our concerns a patient hearing.
Shri Goyal reaffirmed the Modi Government’s commitment to supporting “Make in India” by prioritizing Indian materials and manufacturers. However, he acknowledged our concerns and took prompt action by contacting the relevant Secretary in Delhi. The following directives were proposed:
1. Timely Issuance of NOCs: NOCs should be issued promptly for materials whose contract or Bill of Lading date predates the initiation of the Steel Ministry’s inquiry.
2. Review of Non-Manufactured Materials: An inquiry should be conducted to issue NOCs for materials that are currently not manufactured in India.
3. NOC Issuance at Contract Level: Piyush ji Appreciated our proposal of issuing NOCs at the contract level, ensuring that importers are aware upfront of materials restricted by the government. This will help reduce unnecessary costs related to demurrage, detention, and inventory loss.
These actions are expected to resolve the immediate issue and provide a clear, future-oriented framework to support smooth importing processes and minimize avoidable losses.
We appreciate Shri Piyush Goyal’s efforts and his swift intervention to support the steel trade. We now anticipate that NOCs for steel containers will be issued at the earliest.

Warm regards,
TEAM FAM
