Delhi, 31st December 2024 - The Indian property market continued its upward momentum in 2024, with an impressive 5.77 lakh residential transactions recorded across primary and secondary markets, 4% higher as compared to 2023. The total value of these transactions exceeded Rs. 4 lakh crore, marking a 2% year-on-year (YoY) growth over 2023. This steady growth underscores the sustained demand for residential properties, solidifying the market’s robust performance over the past year.

Tanuj Shori, Founder and CEO, Square Yards said, “The Indian residential real estate market has entered a promising upcycle post-pandemic, bolstered by pent-up demand and a stronger sentiment for homeownership. Over the past two to three years, the sector experienced exceptional growth, which has naturally moderated in 2024. Having said that, the numbers speak volumes – annual sales have exceeded 5 lakh units and Rs. 4 lakh crore in gross value, well above pre-2020 averages. Hence this is not a slowdown but a natural part of the cycle, reflecting a maturing market ready for its next wave of growth. In 2025, we foresee residential demand and supply to grow in close ranges, setting the stage for steady, sustainable progress.”

The western region emerged as the dominant force in India’s property market, with cities such as Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Pune accounting for 61% of registered transactions and 69% of the total sales value. In the southern region, Bengaluru and Hyderabad contributed 25% of the total transactions. Bengaluru recorded nearly 0.8 lakh registrations, though a slight dip was observed due to the E-khata rollout. Hyderabad’s performance continued its upward trajectory, achieving 80% of Bengaluru’s volume and cementing its position as a key real estate hub.

Residential Property Price Trends 2024

The sustained demand has driven significant property price growth. While western and southern cities led in transaction volumes, northern cities like Gurugram made waves with remarkable price escalations. Gurugram witnessed an extraordinary 132% growth in property prices since 2019, driven by the increasing demand for luxury and ultra-luxury properties. Key areas within the city recorded even higher price spikes.

Following Gurugram, Greater Noida and Noida experienced a 67% increase in property prices over the past five years. The upcoming Jewar Airport has significantly boosted buyer interest in these areas, with improved connectivity and anticipated economic opportunities acting as major drivers.

Romanian Ambassador invites India to collaborate with Silicon Valley of Eastern Europe

t is a honour of my life to be the Ambassador of India, which is set to play an important role in the world economy. I have chosen Mumbai as the first destination of my country tour after taking charge as Ambassador a month ago. It is my goal to strengthen commercial ties and people to people movement between India and Romania as it will pave way for a stronger diplomatic relationship. This year we observed the 10th Anniversary of our Extensive Partnership, with a focus on three main areas, viz. Energy, IT and manufacturing. I invite Indian companies to collaborate with their counterparts in Romania’s second largest city, Cluj-Napoca, which is called Silicon Valley of Eastern Europe because of its vibrant IT sector,” said H.E. Ms. Latif remarked, “Our bilateral trade volume reached record high last year. But still it does not reflect the true potential. Romania can be the gateway for Indian companies to Europe as it has the largest port, Constanța, in the Black Sea.” Speaking about the strong bilateral ties, the Ambassador pointed out, “Thousands of Indians are working in restaurants, construction, logistics and other sectors in Romania. Our country helped 10,000 Indian students to reach India safely during the Ukraine war. In the area of trade, textile is a prominent sector as Romania imports Indian made textile materials. Shipbuilding can be a potential sector for collaboration as there are many ports in Black Sea and the Danube river which passes through Romania.” Addressing the business queries of the participating delegates, the Ambassador informed that she can facilitate business connections for these delegates in textile, chemicals, alcoholic beverages, automotive and other sectors. In the automobile sector, the Ambassador informed that already many auto-component and vehicle manufacturers are located in Romania, which offers huge scope for partnership between both the countries in this sector. Tourism, food and gastronomy are other sectors with potential for bilateral cooperation. “Romania produces fresh apples, peaches and other fruits, where there is scope for trade with India for value addition and re-exports. In the beverage industry, Romania is the sixth largest producer of wine in Europe. So, Indian companies producing raw materials and ingredients for wine can export to Romania.” H.E. Ms. Latif concluded her remarks by raising hope that the proposed free trade agreement between India and the European Union will conclude in the coming months as the 9th round of negotiation got over recently. A few years ago, WTCA Board Meeting was held in the Romanian capital of Bucharest and I had the privilege to discuss roadmap to strengthen business partnership with the WTC in Bucharest. Currently, bilateral trade is USD 2.9 billion, which has potential to grow further in the coming years. India has untapped export potential worth USD 897 million, while Romania has USD 620 million worth untapped export potential to India. Indian companies can invest in agriculture as Romania is blessed with fertile land on the banks of the river Danube.” Capt. Batra suggested the Ambassador to visit WTCs in Bhubaneswar, Jaipur and Goa to discuss possibilities for strengthening trade and investment ties with industries in these regions. Capt. Batra invited Romanian companies to invest in India by pointing out that while more than 550 Indian companies are operating in Romania, hardly 50 Romanian companies are doing business in India. Ms. Rupa Naik, Executive Director, WTC Mumbai proposed vote of thanks for the event. Ms. Naik pointed out that the overwhelming participation of industry delegates to this event indicates the strong interest shown by the local business community to explore the Romanian market. Driven by the professional team from Evo India, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 set a remarkable record by registering an altitude change of 5802 meters—from India’s highest drivable point, Umling La in Leh Ladakh, located 5799m (19,024 ft) above sea level, to Kuttanad in Kerala, situated 3 meters below sea level.

The extraordinary feat was accomplished in just 14 days, covering an extensive distance of over 4900 kms across challenging terrains and extreme climatic conditions, truly demonstrating the Hyundai IONIQ 5’s resilience, advanced technology, and superior performance. Throughout the journey, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 reaffirmed its position as a benchmark in electric mobility, seamlessly navigating harsh environments, from freezing temperatures and steep mountain passes in the Himalayas to humid coastal regions in Kerala.
