Indian study reveals a blend of anti-oxidants with micronutrients showed statistically significant improvement in all male-fertility parameters

·        The clinical trial titled, ‘Impact of antioxidants in improving semen parameters like count, motility and DNA fragmentation in sub-fertile males: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial’ was conducted by Meyer Vitabiotics at 10 different sites across India.

·        This study is a big boost for use of nutraceuticals in treating male infertility.

May 2, 2023: A study by Indian nutraceutical major Meyer Vitabiotics has revealed that a combination of anti-oxidant micronutrients and vitamins improved male fertility parameter by 76 percent even in severe cases of male infertility. Among Indian males with baseline sperm count of less than 5 million / ml, a blend of multi-vitamins, minerals, essential amino acids, ginseng & lycopene increased the sperm count by 75.76 percent. The study was conducted over a 3-month period among 300 Indian males with varied types and degrees of infertility. The encouraging results are a boost to multiple micronutrients therapy that India usually neglects.

The study was published in the International Journal “Translational and Clinical Pharmacology”.

Dr. Ameet Patki, the trial's principal investigator of the study says,  “Male infertility is solely responsible for 20–30% of overall infertility cases. Male factor infertility is a clinical challenge. Abnormalities in semen such as Oligospermia (low sperm count), Asthenozoospermia (sperm motility), and Teratozoospermia (group of abnormal sperm) are most frequently linked with infertility in males. Surgical procedures, hormonal and drug therapy are available treatment options for male infertility but these methods also have special concerns like higher cost, uncertain clinical effectiveness and side effects. Antioxidants have acquired increasing interest amongst clinicians & researchers for boosting parameters of male fertility. Sperm DNA fragmentation is known to be higher in infertile men. If it exceeds 30% than normal value, it implies sperm quality is significantly reduced. The uniqueness of this trial lies in inclusion of DFI as one of the assessment factor before & after the treatment.

Mr. Rohit Shelatkar, Vice-President of Meyer Vitabiotics says, “Infertility is a serious concern worldwide. As per the earlier published comprehensives it is reinforced that there is vital role of diet and antioxidant supplementation in male factor infertility. The limitations of current treatment options calls for a convenient, less costly and yet clinically effective option. Considering the gaining interest in antioxidant therapy and the need for systematic scientific evidence, the present study was proposed to evaluate the efficacy of antioxidant blend in sub-fertile males. The experiential use of antioxidants in male infertility is aimed at improving semen parameters and DNA Fragmentation Index (DFI), enhancing the probability of conception. The frequently prescribed compounds include vitamins E & C, carnitine, N-acetyl cysteine, selenium, and zinc. Interventional antioxidant blend through a single tablet of Oligocare forte plus, also called Wellman Conception in the UK, is a combination of micronutrients, essential amino acids, antioxidants, and vitamins that are essential for the male reproductive system”.

The clinical trial, was aimed to evaluate the safety, efficacy, and tolerability of Oligocare forte plus in sub-fertile males. Along with Dr. Ameet Patki, Dr. Monica singh, Dr. Sweta Agarwal, Dr. Venugopal M, Dr. Shashikant Umbardand, Dr. Apoorva Reddy, Dr. Priya Kannan, Dr. Srilatha gorthi, Dr. Gautam Khastgir, Dr. Anita Kulshreshtha were the investigators at other sites. Their dedication and efforts remarkably contributed to achieve study objectives and gain valuable insights into this research.

The study involved 300 participants who met the eligibility criteria and the results obtained have been highly promising. It was one of its kind multi-centric trial in sub-fertile male population conducted with meticulous adherence to good clinical practices (GCP) and all relevant regulations and guidelines.

projecthero launches wage discovery feature that allows construction workers to fight for pay transparency

National, May 01, 2023: Construction tech startup projecthero has launched a wage discovery feature in its app for workers. The feature, which allows workers to discover if they are being paid more or less than the average salaries in their fields, will ensure pay transparency and prevent wage exploitation in the construction industry. This is part of projecthero’s initiatives to build a membership driven professional network for the construction industry.

The construction industry is highly fragmented and unstructured, which enables the higher-ups in the industry to exploit workers by providing them with below-average and, often, below-minimum wages. Due to poor technological penetration, workers have to find employment through informal means, which leads to opacity regarding compensation amounts. projecthero’s in-app wage discovery feature enables workers to make sure that they are not being exploited by being paid below-average and below-minimum wages. Such transparency will also enable workers to understand and recognise the value of their work and prevent them from falling prey to fraudulent and corrupt recruitment practices.

Satya Vyas, Founder and CEO of projecthero, said, “Urban organised workforces have various ways of discovering the average salaries in their fields. Gig workers are also aware of their colleagues’ salaries, as they have fixed compensation amounts. With pay transparency, employees can achieve a better standard of living, as they will know if they are being exploited and not being paid optimal salaries. Hence, we thought that developing a feature to prevent wage-based exploitation and wage discrimination in the unorganised construction industry will help blue-collar workers understand their worth and fight for it.”

According to the average salary metrics released by projecthero, 2,308 users have interacted with the average salary discovery feature, and in total, it has been viewed 7.1 K times. This implies an average viewership of 3.2 times per user. Moreover, with regard to workers being paid the minimum salary, in Uttar Pradesh, 79.9% of jobs pay below-minimum wage, and 815 users have been informed of this. In Maharashtra, 68.6% of jobs pay less than minimum wage, and 268 users have been made aware of this, and in Madhya Pradesh, 93.75% of jobs pay less than minimum wage, with 264 users having been informed about this.

The statistics show that Maharashtra has the highest number of users who have checked whether they are being paid more than the minimum wage. Conversely, Madhya Pradesh has the lowest number of users who have checked whether they are being paid the minimum wage, even though it has the highest percentage of jobs paying less than the minimum wage.

Previously, in January 2023, projecthero revealed that 87% of construction workers in India do not receive the government-mandated daily minimum wage. This was found to be true for the major cities of India (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Pune). projecthero’s introduction of the wage discovery feature is in keeping with its goals to build a professional network for the construction industry and make the construction industry more organised, formalised, and ethical.

About projecthero

projecthero is a membership-driven professional network for the construction industry, which provides access to jobs, orders, financial services, etc. to its members. Currently, projecthero has more than 4 lakh construction workers on their platform and has placed over 3000 workers in projects. projecthero was founded by Satya Vyas, Pukhraj Grewal, Raghu Chopra, and Sidhant Panda – all IIT Roorkee graduates.

Since the fundraise of $3.2Mn from Ankur Capital and Omidyar Networks, projecthero’s team has continued to expand and grow, with IIT Roorkee graduate Sidhant Panda (ex-Google) joining the team as Co-founder and CTO.

Industrial and warehousing demand rises 11% YoY; Vacancy levels shrink by 170 basis points

·       Delhi-NCR continued to lead demand with 29% share, followed by Mumbai

·       3PL players drove demand at 41% share, followed by FMCG at 12%

·       Vacancy levels declined 170 basis points YoY amidst sturdy demand & limited supply

1st May 2023: Industrial and warehousing demand across the top 5 cities remained strong during Q1 2023, rising by 11% YoY at 7.2 mn sq ft. The quarter also saw the highest leasing compared to the previous 8 quarters. This sustained streak in leasing was backed by 3PL operators who continued to expand across large markets, forming 41% of total leasing during the quarter. This was distantly followed by the FMCG sector at 12%. Interestingly, demand from Retail and FMCG sectors saw a three-fold rise YoY, as they expanded their footprints in larger markets such as Delhi-NCR and Mumbai. This pick-up in the take up of industrial warehousing space pairs well with the growth in private consumption in the domestic economy.

Delhi-NCR led the demand during the first quarter accounting for 29% share in total leasing, followed by Mumbai at 25%. Mumbai saw 37% YoY rise in leasing, led by 3PL operators who continued their expansion spree in the city despite weaker economic & business sentiment. Tauru road and NH 48 in Delhi NCR and Bhiwandi in Mumbai remained attractive markets during the quarter.

“3PL operators are targeting larger dense markets with good-quality infrastructure for expansion to ensure quick delivery of online orders. It contributed to more than 2/3rd of the total leasing in Mumbai, led by select large deals. Average deal size by 3PL operators in the city  was more than 2 lakh sq feet, 69% higher than pan India average. 3PL operators will continue to eye larger markets as they look to augment their distribution network.” says Vimal Nadar, Senior Director, and Head of Research, Colliers India.

While industrial and warehousing demand remained sturdy during Q1 2023, new supply across top 5 cities was limited. Supply across top 5 cities declined 8% YoY, at 5.8 mn sq ft, as developers remained watchful on the evolving demand scenario. Higher raw material prices and increased logistics costs also impacted new project completions across major markets. Over the next few quarters, developers will continue to remain cautious and are likely to bring in supply to meet market demand, keeping market fundamentals intact.

Owing to limited available supply and robust demand, vacancy levels across top 5 cities dropped by 170 basis points YoY during Q1 2023 to 8.1%. Majority of the markets except Delhi-NCR saw single digit vacancy levels, backed by steady demand from 3PL, FMCG & engineering companies. With demand being upbeat amidst limited supply, rentals across top micro-markets saw an annual rise. Chakan in Pune, and Bhiwandi in Mumbai were some of the key micro markets which saw an uptick in rentals by 14% and 6% respectively.

“Over the last 7-8 quarters, demand in Pune has largely outpaced supply, with vacancy dropping significantly to 6.3% during Q1 2023. Demand from automobile & engineering sectors remains unabated & continues to account for at least 50% on an average. Riding high on this strong demand, multiple large scale warehousing parks have been planned in the Chakan-Talegaon region. This is expected to provide occupiers quality warehousing space options in next 2-3 years, thus aiding growth. Influx of superior quality warehousing spaces coupled with robust demand from occupiers will push rentals upward & keep the overall market active.” says Animesh Tripathi, Managing Director, Pune and Mid-India Industrial and logistics services, Colliers India.
