A heartrending story written and directed by Mansi Jain and starring Seema Bhargava Pahwa, Palomi Ghosh and Sidhharth Bhardwaj
New Delhi, May 12, 2020: Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short Films presented ‘Everything is Fine’, a short film about women, especially mothers, who often lose their sense of self in the process of keeping their families together. Released on International Mother’s Day, the film features actors Seema Bhargava Pahwa and Palomi Ghosh in lead roles, along with Sidhharth Bhardwaj and Alka Chatwal.
The film follows the life of its protagonist, Asha, played by the legendary Seema Bhargava Pahwa, a middle-aged housewife from a small town in India who seeks the support of her daughter, Natasha, an independent woman living in the city, played by Palomi Ghosh. Asha hopes to end her unfulfilling marriage but her otherwise open minded daughter is unable to empathize with her mother’s predicament. Her knee jerk reaction changes the dynamics of their relationship, at least for now. The film is inspired by the story of countless women who add immeasurable abundance to the lives of those they love and yet remain under-appreciated, unheard and even invisible.
Sharing her thoughts on the film, writer and director Mansi Jain said, “This film is based on the lives of many mothers, wives, daughters and grandmothers. It’s a sincere attempt at presenting a reality that is perhaps intentionally overlooked. The film has screened at many festivals across the world and people from completely different cultures, countries and backgrounds have come up to me to share how the film made them think about their own mothers. And that’s very encouraging for me to keep making such films. I’m very grateful that people find the film so personal to their own experiences. Yes, the film is set in Delhi but the essence is universal, which is what I truly enjoy capturing in whatever I make.” Talking about the team, Mansi said, “I am very grateful to the amazing cast and crew who are the film’s soul. Seema and Palomi embodied the characters very easily. Sidhharth was so involved in what he can do and add to the film. And Alka was pitch perfect. I rarely had to tell them anything because it felt like they knew these characters, these people intimately. I really look forward to working with them again and again, soon.” Previously, Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short Films has also featured the writer-director’s acclaimed short films Churri (2017) and Nawab (2020).
