This International Women’s Day, meet the women leaders who are bringing a change in the social sector

As a part of Teach For India’s 3400+ strong Alumni network reaching 33 million children in India, these former Fellows are bringing a positive change throughout the country

Mumbai, 8th March 2020 – The COVID-19 pandemic’s impact continues to exhibit its looming presence across the world, along with its uncertainty. Its worst impact has been on emerging economies. The most severely affected are children from low-income backgrounds who may have been pushed into child labour and might not be able to return to schools if conditions don’t improve. A UNESCO assessment estimates the decrease in enrolment at 11 million globally, at the primary and secondary levels indicating an unprecedented learning crisis. As a country with the world’s largest youth population, this is a concern for India’s economy. The World Bank puts the long-term economic impact of pandemic led learning loss at $400 billion for India.

India’s agents of change

More than 3400 Teach For India Alumni are reaching more than 33 million children - that's 1 in 10 children in India - at various levels of the system from schools, communities to governance and policy - level initiatives. More than 77% Alumni continue to serve in the social sector, a commitment that is fueled by belief.

On International Women’s Day, here are some women leaders that are making a difference.
