MS Dhoni urges people to take control of their bus journeys in the latest brand campaign launched by redBus

redBus launches an ad-film as part of a broader campaign to highlight the brand’s proposition
Bengaluru, December 4, 2019: redBus has launched a large scale, 360 degree integrated marketing campaign, featuring its brand ambassador, MS Dhoni, highlighting the conveniences and advantages of using the redBus platform, as opposed to traditional methods of bus ticketing. It emphatically urges people to avoid being puppets of unorganized ticketing methods and take control over their journeys with redBus.
As part of the campaign, redBus has launched a 30 second TVC, which is the first in the series of two commercials, with the second video set to go live on 7th December. The films emerge from the core idea of highlighting the plight of travellers who are at the mercy of offline bus ticket booking system. They often have no control over the choice of bus, seat or ticket pricing. The films dramatize this lack of control by portraying the offline consumer as a puppet controlled by greater forces. The messaging deals with two major pain-points faced by offline ticket purchasers – limited range of options and arbitrary prices. redBus comes to the rescue on both occasions with Dhoni carrying the brand’s message of ‘taking control’ of one’s bus journey with the help of the redBus app, with his sporty elegance.
redBus launched its first brand campaign with Dhoni in May this year, where the cricketing legend was cast in an unusual avatar of a hockey player. The films associated with this campaign, emphasised on aspects such as choice of leg room and best discounts offered on the redBus platform and was well received across India. The campaign also helped deliver growth in the west and north markets for redBus.
About the films:
In the films, viewers witness a metaphorical puppetry, where travellers are depicted as puppets controlled by an archaic offline ticket booking system that leaves most of them helpless, owing to its rigidity on the choice of bus and high cost of tickets. The puppet strings attached to the characters overtly emphasises their vulnerability and lack of control over their journey. Dhoni arrives as a well-wisher and advisor, who empathises with the puppets and offers them the best solution to break free of the strings- use redBus to cut it and control the journey yourself! The videos are complemented with vocals in rap that give it a humorous undertone.

Cricketing legend, MS Dhoni, stated, “I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the new ad films for redBus, the storyline and depiction aptly conveys the brand’s message to the audience. The success of the earlier campaign, where I appeared as Balbir Singh in a hockey avatar has been extremely encouraging and I look forward to a similar reception this time.”
Prakash Sangam, CEO, redBus, said, “We have strengthened our footprint across the country, especially in West and North India, with MS Dhoni anchoring our campaigns. The online bus ticketing segment is still underpenetrated with tremendous potential to grow and our objective is to attract a large cohort of offline ticket purchasers to experience the convenience of booking on redBus and thereby drive growth.”
On the occasion of the launch, Pallavi Chopra, VP and Head of Marketing, redBus, said, “The objective of this campaign is to attract a large segment of offline ticket purchasers who are deprived of choice and best ticket prices, to try redBus and enjoy a hassle-free travelling experience. We have put up a strong narrative to emphasise this message, with Dhoni delivering it emphatically to a PAN-India audience. The films are both, educating and entertaining and sure to command strong attention from our audience.”
Dileep Ashoka, EVP, McCann South, said, “redBus, India’s No. 1 online bus ticketing app, has already managed to get a large share of the early adopters on board with previous campaigns. The objective of the current communication is to target the laggards in the category- those who are habituated to booking through traditional methods, despite all the pitfalls. The use of the puppet as a visual device, a catchy rap and Dhoni’s mass appeal is aimed at driving home the message to a wider demographic in the most disruptive way possible and shake offline consumers from their current state of inertia”.
Arun Pandey, Chairman and Managing Director of Rhiti Group which manages Dhoni's commercial engagement exclusively, said "Association with redBus will go a long way. The latest campaign resonates the ideology of building faith in the customers to do hassle free booking with best prices and experience offered. Dhoni and redBus both exemplify symbol of trust amongst the people, we are really excited for the new campaign"
The campaign will be aired on all leading national and regional TV channels, including digital and social media.

redBus expands rPool’s service offering to include Bikes

·       rPool now includes bikes along with cars to enhance the drive towards shared mobility in cities
·       Targeted at office goers, bike pooling will be available in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune
Bengaluru, October 14, 2019: redBus, the world’s largest online bus ticketing platform, announces the introduction of bikes into rPool, its in-app ride sharing service that was launched recently. Starting with Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune, this new service allows office goers to avail and offer rides in their personal two-wheelers, while commuting between home and their workplace.
Like car pool, bike pool, emerges from the need to develop sustainable solutions for the burgeoning traffic congestion problems that most Indian cities endure on an everyday basis. The spurt in ownership of private vehicles over the last decade, far outpaces the development of infrastructure needed to sustain them, resulting in severe cramming, impacting the quality of life, environment and the economy. According to multiple studies conducted, Indian cities are among the most congested in the world.
The higher travel duration resulting from congestion within cities and inadequate public transport infrastructure, has led to commuters relying on personal two-wheelers, especially for travel to and from work, considering their size advantage and manoeuvrability. About 75% of all vehicles in India are two-wheelers, with one in three households owning one. Two-wheelers are therefore best suited for shared commute, thanks to greater concentration, easier access and quicker travel, comparatively. The concept also allows young office-goers, savings on fuel as they share costs by offering their pillion seats to a co-rider. redBus believes in the concept of ‘shared mobility’, as a sustainable option to tackling the situation of vehicular congestion and considers bike pooling to be one of the best solutions, in addition to carpooling.
About bike pool from rPool
A newly added facility to the rPool service offering, Bike pool is a solution for working professionals, enabling them to offer and avail rides, between their homes and offices. It uses advanced technology to connect ride givers and ride takers in the fastest and most convenient manner possible. The matching algorithm ensures that ride givers don’t have to deviate or take any detours from their daily work route and ride takers get to travel the maximum distance of their commute as a part of the shared ride.
Features
·       Verified Profiles via multiple checks: In order to build a trusted community of ride givers and ride takers, the facility is restricted to working professionals undertaking daily commute. Users are verified through their mobile number and their organization’s corporate email id.
·       Safe, secure and, private: ‘rPool’ has introduced phone number masking which enables users to connect with each other via the redBus app without revealing their phone numbers to each other, thus ensuring privacy. Ride takers would be provided accident insurance free of cost for each ride. Ride givers also have an option to specify if they have an extra helmet for the ride taker or if the ride taker mandatorily needs to bring in a helmet for themselves.
·       In-App chat feature: For ease of communication between the ride givers and ride takers, there is an in-app chat that allows One-To-One chat and group chat if a ride is available on the app. This protects user identity and allows for better coordination.
·       Attractive Incentives: Ride givers can configure incentives, ranging from Re. 1 to Rs. 4 per kilometer for offering rides. They also earn 2X for the first 10 rides. Promo code feature is live for both ride givers and ride takers. This will be available over and above the default offers. Customers may watch out for exclusive deals from partners.
·       Inaugural Launch Offer: As an inaugural offer, for the first 500 ride givers in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune each, rPool would be charging zero commission for the first 5 years.
·       User profiles and feedback mechanism: The platform allows creation of user profiles based on user reviews, allowing participants the option of choosing the people they wish to travel with, based on their ratings. It also offers women ride givers or takers to choose to travel with women alone, as an option.
Speaking on the occasion, Prakash Sangam, CEO – redBus said, “Indian cities have a large concentration of two-wheelers on roads and it is the primary means of private transport for many commuters. Many car owners also prefer to use two-wheelers to commute as they are faster, lead to lower congestion and are less expensive. To support this segment, we are including bikes in our in-app, ride-sharing platform, rPool. This would expand the base of commuters that we cater to and help us towards our mission of improving mobility options that are greener, cost efficient and a fun way to travel.”

The Bike Pool option has been initially enabled for commuters in the cities of Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune, who roughly account for about 10 million two-wheelers on their roads and we plan to launch in other cities soon. We are excited to see how people perceive this latest addition to the rPool service and at the same time we will be working hard to add even more user-friendly features in coming weeks on the rPool platform.

redBus launches ‘rPool’, an advanced carpooling platform for intra-city commute

rPool, which is integrated inside the redBus mobile app  has been developed with the objective of contributing to decongestion of cities
Targeted at office goers, the new carpooling service is being offered in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune
Bengaluru, June 12, 2019: redBus, the world’s largest online bus ticketing platform, announces the launch of an advanced carpooling service on its platform, called rPool. Launched in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune, this new service allows office goers to avail and offer rides in their personal cars, while commuting between home and their workplace. rPool can be accessed directly from within the redBus mobile app.
rPool emerges from the need to develop sustainable solutions for the burgeoning traffic and congestion problems that most Indian cities, endure on an everyday basis. The spurt in ownership of private vehicles over the last decade, far outpaces the development of infrastructure needed to sustain them, resulting in severe cramming, impacting the quality of life, environment and the economy. According to multiple studies conducted, Indian cities are among the most congested in the world. In Bengaluru alone, the percentage additional time taken to travel during peak hours is at 162% compared to a 68% additional time taken in KL or 79% in Jakarta. Bengaluru’s vehicle population has grown the fastest in the country, with over 8 million vehicles on its roads, resulting in some obvious problems associated with the phenomenon, such as slow speed, long queues at traffic signals and high levels of pollution, among others.
redBus believes in the concept of ‘shared mobility’, as a sustainable option to tackling this situation, with carpooling being the best solution. According to a report on ‘Enabling Shared Mobility in India’ published by NITI Ayog, carpooling is a form of ride sharing in which trips are shared by travellers but with the exception that the drivers are not considered “for hire”, though they can receive some forms of compensation to recover their fuel cost.
About rPool
Integrated into the redBus app, rPool is a sophisticated carpool solution for working professionals, enabling them to offer and avail rides, between their homes and offices. It uses advanced technology to connect ride givers and ride takers in the fastest and most convenient manner possible. The matching algorithm ensures that ride givers don’t have to deviate or take any detours from their daily work route and ride takers get to travel the maximum distance of their commute as a part of the shared ride.
Features of rPool:
·       Verified Profiles via multiple checks: In order to build a trusted community of ride givers and ride takers, rPool is restricted to working professionals undertaking daily commute. Users are verified through their mobile number and their organization’s corporate email id.
·       Safe, secure and, private: redBus has introduced phone number masking which enables users to connect with each other via the redBus app without revealing their phone numbers to each other thus ensuring privacy. Ride takers on rPool would be provided accident insurance free of cost for each ride.
·       Attractive Incentives: Ride givers receive incentives in the form of reward points that can be redeemed at fuel stations and Amazon Pay. Ride takers pay much less than autos/cabs for the same distance.
·       Inaugural Launch Offer: As an inaugural offer, for the first 500 ride givers in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and, Pune each, redBus would be charging zero commission for the first 5 years.
·       User profiles and feedback mechanism: Creation of user profiles based on user reviews, allowing participants the option of choosing the people they wish to travel with, based on their ratings. The platform also offers women ride givers or takers to choose to travel with women alone, as an option.
Speaking on the occasion, Prakash Sangam, CEO – redBus said, “While governments and various other institutions are evaluating multiple options to tackle congestion in cities, as one of the largest facilitators of road travel in the country, redBus is poised to make a difference through advanced technology and professional expertise. rPool, our new carpooling service, is a systematic solution, not only to decongest roads, but also offer commuters, a viable option that helps them save fuel and time. With the right implementation and adoption at scale, carpooling can significantly reduce vehicular traffic during peak hours in urban cities.”
If 4 people share one car for 10km via the rPool platform, one can save around 4 to 5 litres of fuel thus reducing the CO2 emissions by 9 to 11kgs. With a large existing base of users across the country, redBus is poised to scale the rPool proposition at pace, positively impacting quality of life, environment, and the economy.
Chaitanya Kanuri, World Resources Institute India (WRI India), said, “Technology-enabled shared mobility solutions like carpooling platforms have the potential to improve the efficiency and sustainability of urban transportation in our cities. By allowing three-four trips to be fulfilled by a single vehicle, carpooling can contribute to reduced congestion as well as lower GHG emissions and air pollution- for which transportation is a major source. Care must be taken however, to ensure that ride-givers on carpooling platforms are only permitted to share costs of fuel and vehicle use with other co-passengers without imposing any additional charges; this is in line with carpooling regulations in other countries like the US and France. WRI India is working with shared mobility enterprises and with government agencies to promote innovative mobility solutions that are integrated with urban transport networks and have a positive impact on the city.”

redBus successfully pilots Google’s AMP for email

RB_red on white
AMP has allowed redBus to greatly increase engagement with users and reduce bounce rates
Bengaluru, April 24, 2018: redBus, the world’s largest bus ticketing platform, has successfully tested Google’s AMP (Accelerated Mobile Page) feature, as one of the few brands, globally, who came on board for a trial of the concept. Google recently announced implementation of AMP or interactive email, for users of Gmail.
AMP is a technological leap for emails, allowing them to be interactive and dynamic, as opposed to a fixed or static display of information that it used to be all these years. The concept allows for hosting of live content on emails, triggering respondents to engage with the content without having to be redirected to another website or app, thus reducing drop-offs.
The developers at redBus consider the usage of this technology to be a powerful way to create more engaging, interactive and actionable experiences on Email, enabling recipients to interact dynamically with content.
redBus will be using AMP for the process of collecting feedback from bus travellers for rating and review of bus operators they travel with. The whole process will become a lot easier with AMP as users will complete the process without leaving their email inbox where they have been asked to review their bus travel experience.
Going forward, redBus intends to use the concept for other use-cases such as purchasing a ticket or even tracking the live location of their bus from within the ticket Email itself, greatly enhancing user experience.
“We have witnessed a positive change in behaviour among our mail recipients, post implementation of AMP, which is clearly a game changer. Hosting dynamic content on email makes a huge difference to the overall experience of customer-brand interactions and consequently on the amount of user-generated content we can collect. We are happy to be one of the 9 brands globally at the time of the launch, to have partnered with Google to pilot this new technology” - Krishnan Ramaswami, Senior Vice President, Product, Analytics and, Acquisition for redBus.
