10th August 2022

·         The vaccination drive is to control the spread of lumpy skin disease amongst the livestock

·         More than 1000 animals died in Gujarat due to the infectious lumpy skin disease.

Pipavav, India: APM Terminals Pipavav has launched a vaccination drive for livestock in nearby 45 villages like Rampara, Bherai, Chhatadiya, Hadmatiya, Thavi and Shiyalbet villages under the ‘Pashuuday project’. This is to control the spread of the infectious lumpy skin disease in livestocks.

According to the survey done by the state of Gujarat, the highly contagious lumpy skin disease has been found in cows and buffaloes in 1,126 villages in 15 districts of the state. It has affected more than 40,000 animals and continues to spread further.

Commenting on the drive, Mr. Jakob Friis Sørensen, MD, APM Terminals Pipavav said, “The spread of the infectious disease is an unfortunate incident as livestock is the livelihood of many villagers. APM Terminals strongly believes in protecting and nurturing the ecosystem near the port. We are happy to start the vaccination drive and awareness as precautionary measure, to control the spread further. We hope that the vaccination drive helps curb down the disease and keeps the cattle healthy.”
