BeatO joins hands with Yog Dhyan Foundation to test and support children with Type1 Diabetes

New Delhi, 9 December, 2022:  BeatO, a comprehensive digital care platform for controlling and managing diabetes, is participating in Yog Dhyan Foundation’s (YDF) Health Carnival 2022 to test and support 400 children dealing with Type 1 Diabetes on Sunday, 11th December 2022 at A 28, Ansal Villas, SatBari, New Delhi.

Yog Dhyan Foundation is one of the leading Charity Foundations which has been supporting Type 1 Diabetic children and young adults for over a decade, with more than 400 beneficiaries under its wing. BeatO and Yog Dhyan Foundation together aim to educate and provide medical counsel to children on how to continue living a holistically enriching life with Type 1 Diabetes. The organizations are actively working towards ensuring emotional support for such children and their families. BeatO and the Yog Dhyan Foundation are also dedicating resources towards helping raise awareness amongst such families, as well as the general public.

The Health Carnival will have games, yoga classes and birthday celebrations for the young ones. To impart awareness around this serious issue in a fun and engaging manner and to ensure an interactive flow of information, with the children and their families, BeatO will be organizing quizzes, a specialized food counter, providing a doctor on site for medical consultations, monitoring facilities and counselling from BeatO’s certified diabetes educators for them.

Commenting on the association, Gautam Chopra, CEO & Co-founder, BeatO said, “BeatO’s vision is to make diabetes care accessible and affordable for all and to raise awareness about this condition among our fellow citizens. At BeatO, we believe that the youth is our future and their health is a critical factor in the prosperity of the nation. Given that India is the diabetes capital of the world and we are recently seeing a major uptick in the number of children & young adults being diagnosed with this chronic ailment, it is crucial to promote diabetes control, provide support and ensure a child’s well-being from a young age.”

Meeting with a diabetes educator is a great way to get support and guidance, for Type 1 children and their families and for them to learn how to:

Develop and stick to a healthy eating and activity plan

Test your blood sugar and keep a record of the results

Recognize the signs of high or low blood sugar and what to do about it

Give yourself insulin by syringe, pen, or pump

Monitor your feet, skin, and eyes to catch problems early

Buy diabetes supplies and store them properly

Manage stress and deal with daily diabetes care

“T1DM children and young adults especially from marginal families, due to lack of financial resources need support and care not for just a day, a week, a month or just a year. It is a long term association till they can take charge of their lives. Once a child becomes a part of Yog Dhyan Foundation, we try to equip and support them medically, financially, physically and most importantly emotionally. We make sure our young adults are compassionate, happy, healthy, confident and ready to face the world!” added Bindia Chhabra, Vice President Yog Dhyan Foundation.

While prevalence of Type1 diabetes in young adults is due to a genetic autoimmune disorder that shows up quite early in life where the body cannot produce insulin, the incidences of Type 2 diabetes are also increasing rapidly among children and the youth now. One fourth of the urban Indian population is diabetic. The sedentary lifestyle, post-pandemic habits and growing obesity are the dominant factors contributing towards the rise of Type 2 diabetes amongst youth and children in India.

Type 1 diabetes can be managed with the help of daily insulin shots, regular blood glucose monitoring, meal planning with supervision from trained professionals, and family support. Daily care and screening and following the correct treatment plan under the guidance of a trained professional can help every child live a healthy life even with this chronic lifelong condition.
