Fatima Sana Shaikh on her struggles in this industry

'I had to work as an assistant photographer at weddings cause auditions don't pay bills'- Fatima Sana Shaikh recalls her pre-Dangal struggles in an interview with Sucharita Tyagi

From auditioning as a child actor and working on miscellaneous projects to finally finding herself in a position where she can choose the kind of work she wants to do, Fatima has hustled her way into Bollywood.

In an interview series named Casting Call by Sucharita Tyagi, Fatima stated that even though Mukesh Chhabra, Indian film director, knew her since she was a kid nothing ever transpired until she was finally called to audition for Dangal. Skeptical as always, the actor boarded on the Dangal audition train with a positive mindset. She has always been a firm believer in giving it a shot and enjoying the process. She may or may not get the role but an opportunity to act makes it all worth it.

The actor reflects back on her struggle and calls the industry a ‘Daldal’ of disturbing things like competitiveness, public reactions, and trolls. She states, “There are so many disturbing things around us. You have to be hopeful. Only you can find happiness in your life. You have to look at the world from a certain perspective to keep yourself sane.”

On the brighter side, she considers today to be the best time for actors, directors, and technicians. With the many OTT platforms offering a plethora of opportunities, there are all finally receiving their due. She made a candid confession about enjoying memes and having a fake Instagram profile where she uploads some of her own content “Kyon ki bahut maza aata hai.”

Currently, Fatima is gearing up for the Netflix release, a Dharma Production short film with director, Shashank Khaitan, and co-star, Jaideep Ahlawat.
