Eretz Israel Museum Presents a New Exhibition: Eretz Israel Museum in Tel Aviv will host the upcoming solo exhibition of acclaimed photographer Daniel Tchetchik. The exhibition, entitled "Days Before Darkness," is a testament to the enduring human spirit in the face of adversity.
Originally scheduled for display at the Gallery in Kibbutz Be’eri, the exhibition faced an unforeseen change of venue when the gallery was tragically destroyed in the Hamas terror attacks on southern Israel on October 7. In the wake of this disaster, the Eretz Israel Museum stepped forward to showcase Tchetchik's profound work.
Curated by Sofie Berzon MacKie, a resident of Kibbutz Be’eri, "Days Before Darkness" is a photography-based installation that embarks on a journey through contrasting themes of destruction and compassion. Tchetchik's work captures a world where survival hinges on love, highlighting the dual nature of humanity - its capacity for both evil and good. The exhibition features lightboxes that illuminate scenes of desolation alongside tender memories and daydreams, evoking feelings of hope and resilience amidst loss and ruin
Sofie Berzon MacKie describes the exhibition as a moral and philosophical odyssey, where destruction is met with boundless tenderness and compassion. In Tchetchik's work, the stark reality of a scorched landscape coexists with serene images of nature and light, symbolizing an embrace emerging from the darkness.
