JD Institute of Fashion Technology collaborates with Whitefield Art Collective to Promote “Wearable Art”

The exclusive fashion show which was held on 7th February 2020 at Skydeck, VR Bengaluru, Whitefield, was themed “Wearable Art”
Bengaluru, 7th February 2020: JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bangalore in collaboration with Whitefield Art Collective (WAC), the award-winning public art initiative, announced the inauguration of its exclusive fashion show on the theme “Wearable Art”. WAC 2020 encourages creative explorations around the theme of “Sustainability”. The association this year with JD Institute of Fashion Technology, included segments on Art Flute, Indian Garbage Collective, The Broke Artist Collective, Aravani Arts Project, and Synesthesia Collective.
The installation created by the students of JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Bangalore, reflected the trail of the wastage left behind due to materials that are overlooked as pollution generating mechanisms. The designs were covered with various everyday materials to denote the state of destruction due to improper disposal. The materials used for the creation of the designs included paper, plastic, bubble wrap, wool, stationery items, wire and e-waste.
Speaking on the occasion, Nealesh Dalal, Managing Trustee, JD Institute of Fashion Technology said, “ It is a moment of pride for us when we see our student’s work up on the ramp. What is more important, is their awareness towards a sustainable environment and how better than to incorporate it with what you love? The textile sculptures created by the
our students under the guidance of Swiss artist and fashion designer Ms. Mariel Manuel, has been fashioned out of materials often looked upon as waste and lifeless. The purpose of the installation is to create a dialogue to reflect on our city, nature and pay heed to the wastage that we as consumers leave behind. We realized the importance of sustainability back in 2014 and ensured that our goals are in line with a sustainable make in India concept”.
Sumi Gupta, Curator of the festival said, “I am thrilled to steer this fantastic public initiative in its fifth year. This edition of WAC has incredible collaborations with institutions and student artists from across Bengaluru, creating a vibrant platform for large-scale installations & sculptures. Over the next month, WAC 2020 will bring together a community of connoisseurs, art students, patrons, and the citizens of Bengaluru in a celebration of the city’s art and culture.”
Special guests at the inauguration included senior artist Seema Kohli, Director, Writer & Producer, Shonali Bose and author Sreemoyee Piu Kundu. From tomorrow, visitors will enjoy a dedicated month of artistic immersion during which VR Bengaluru, the venue partner will be a hub of activity, with installations, exhibitions, an art bazaar, art cinema screenings, art workshops, a children’s art competition and several other exciting events.
Taking into account the United Nations 2020, seventeen sustainable goals concept forward, JD Institute of Fashion Technology, has made their theme for the year 2020 in line with sustainable design.
