The two senior actors of the Bollywood industry, Deepti Naval and Mita Vashisht come together on Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors. The actors have revealed that they were waiting for this moment to happen for a long time. After the runaway success of Criminal Justice last year, Hotstar Specials is set to launch the next chapter in the franchise titled Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors. One of India’s most loved characters Madhav Mishra returns for what is deemed as the toughest case of his career. The prime accused Anu Chandra has confessed to stabbing her husband, an eminent lawyer - Bikram Chandra and is guilty in the eyes of law. While many believe it to be an open-and-shut case, Anu’s subsequent silence and unwillingness to defend herself begs the question - is there more to the case than what meets the eye? The show has tried to showcase an unspoken truth that still breeds in our society and the second part of the series will showcase some sensitive societal issues faced by a woman.
The makers have roped in a stellar star cast including top-notch actors like Mita Vashisht and senior actor Deepti Naval. Mita Vashisht’s character Mandira Mathur is an eminent lawyer who is extremely close to the Chandra family. One thing that is common in reel & real is the friendship of Mita Vashisht and Deepti Naval.
The two have known each other for decades and now working together for the first time Mita Vashisht shares, “Deepti Ma'am and I have been friends for more than 30 years. I am much younger to her so I also looked up to her, when I joined the industry or as a young audience. We have a very interesting bond but this was the first time we were going to be acting together”.
Talking about the relationship she holds on & off-screen with Deepti Naval, Mita adds, “There were two things here it was special at the same time it was strange because at one level to be as close as Mandira Mathur my character and her (Deepti Naval’s) character we are supposed to be close in the story but it’s a different kind of closeness so in a way I had to actually put aside our friendship and find another relationship which is relevant only to the subject matter that you are shooting. So it was special but it was also strange. I almost had a detach in some way that I know her in real life as much as I am supposed to know her on-screen”.
The other cast in the show includes powerhouse talents Ashish Vidyarthi, Jisshu Sengupta, Shilpa Shukla, Pankaj Saraswat, Ayaz Khan, Kalyanee Mulay, Ajeet Singh Palawat, Khushboo Atre, Tirrtha Murbadkar, and others. The 8-part courtroom drama series has been directed by Rohan Sippy, Arjun Mukerjee and written by Apurva Asrani; and is set to launch on 24th December 2020 in 7 languages on Disney+ Hotstar VIP.
