~The book reflects how our lives are shaped by the choices we make and factors beyond our control~

India | 26th May 2023:  Mr. Nidhi Dalmia launched his second book ‘Afternoon’ at the Embassy of France in Delhi. Set in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York, Kashmir and Delhi in the late 60s, the book is a story of a young student finding the love of his life and two young women whose lives intersect with his, at different points of time.

The launch was moderated by renowned actor and celebrity Kabir Bedi. Mr Christian Kamill, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Sweden, Ms Sarah Storey, Deputy High Commissioner, Australia, Mr Jukka Holappa, Embassy of Finland, Ms Patricia A Lacina, Dy Chief of Mission, US Embassy, Ms Martine A Bottheim, Dy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Norway, Mr Gurcharan Das, author, commentator, public intellectual and ex-MD of Proctor & Gamble (India), and Mr RV Kanoria, ex-President of FICCI and Chairman of Kanoria Chemicals also graced the event with their presence.

Afternoon intertwines its characters with the significant cultural, student, sexual and intellectual revolutions taking place around the 60s. The major political events taking place at the time, the explosion of beautiful and timeless music and its interplay with their lives, finds complex yet capturing expressions in the literature. This is   Nidhi Dalmia’s second book, the first one  being Harp, launched by the then French Ambassador at his residence in 2016 . Harp got favourable reviews

The characters in the book  offer a poetic glimpse into the intensity of love and longing in the swinging sixties.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Nidhi Dalmia said, “Afternoon is a story about love. There is nothing more important than love and one experiences life more intensely and every moment is special. However, there is no certainty in life, even less in love. The tale of great change in the world, the novel weaves the words of cultural, sexual and student revolutions in Paris, Berkeley, Warsaw, Tokyo even here in Delhi. The book also portrays the hope and idealism of the 60s, that one thought would never end.”

The novel   weaves jealousy, competition and the inevitable friction in the storyline . The decisions that are involved in inter-continental relationships and the belief that there is nothing more important than love lie at the heart of this  immersive story.

Published by Rupa Publications, Afternoon will be available at all offline stores and online purchase through Amazon.
