School of Media, Films and Entertainment celebrated World Radio Day with Radio Titans AM to FM, Radio Fest 2020





Department of Mass Communication, Sharda University, along with Sharda’s own Community radio station ‘Suno Sharda 90.8 FM’ has taken the initiative of hosting a Radio Fest on the occasion of ‘World Radio Day’. The theme of the fest was “Radio as a communication tool for social change in contemporary era”. It was the second Radio fest organized by the Department of Mass Communication. The program included many cultural activities, competitions and a panel discussion on the topic “Radio as a communication tool for social change in contemporary era”. The guest of honour was Ms Esther Kar, Former Director General PIB & DAVP, and chief guests included Mr. Aroon Joshi (Radio Journalist & Producer; AIR), Mr. Rahul Makin, Radio Jockey Fever 104FM, RJ Sushant Malhotra, Radio Jokey AIR FM.
The event was inaugurated with a Saraswati Vandana and lamp lighting ceremony, creating a positive aura. The event progressed smoothly and was highly informative in terms of radio broadcasting. All the panellists discussed the importance of radio in this contemporary era. Ms Esther Kar, Former Director General PIB & DAVP, said radio is the mass medium that reaches the widest audience in the world. It is also a powerful communication tool and a low cost medium. While talking about the skills important for being a radio jockey, the famous RJ Rahul Makin said connecting with the masses is necessary to be successful. Mr. Aroon Joshi said that radio is specifically suited to reach remote communities and vulnerable people - the illiterate, disabled, and the poor. The radio offers these communities a platform to participate in the public debates, irrespective of their educational level.
Suno Sharda 90.8 FM is a community radio station that aims to change the lives of the residents of Greater Noida. Be it students, apartment dwellers or farmers, Suno Sharda 90.8 FM has something for everyone. Suno Sharda 90.8 FM was officially launched on December 16, 2015 and inaugurated by senior TV journalist and RJ, Richa Anirudh. On this occasion, she had said, “Community radio is very different from commercial radio and being free from the commercial pressures, it can play a major role in the larger welfare of the people of Greater Noida.”
The event comprised of a ‘RJ Hunt’ and a skit on the importance of radio in communicating with masses, especially in rural areas. The skit was directed by Mr. Aryan Dwivedi, a Second Year student of the Department. Shaina Singh of Bachelor’s Degree Second Year won the first prize, along with a certificate. The second prize was won by Riya Singh of First Year and Bhavya Bhardwaj of Second Year won the third prize. The School of Applied Health and Science presented a musical performance which was enjoyed by the audience. Many other cultural programs like singing and dancing were performed by the students.
