Virtual Victorian adventure with new children’s book

Tuesday, 22 May 2020
A new children’s e-book which aims to virtually connect loved ones with a shared adventure through Melbourne’s famous laneways and surrounding iconic regions has been launched.
The e-book, Where In The World Is Melbourne? has been developed by Visit Victoria as a digital story to bring together grandparents and grandchildren around the world through the beloved bedtime tradition.
In a tale of two families, the unique book can be read front-to-back or back-to-front. Each way provides a different international and local perspective on the family adventures that virtually await.
The parallel stories feature a local family that explore their own backyard filled with cultural, creative and natural experiences, and an overseas family that are left to daydream about a family adventure.
The book, which highlights Victoria’s celebrated tourism attractions, is dedicated to the hard-working tourism industry that helps to make special visitor experiences for millions of people every year from around the world.
The story showcases the colourful urban canvases of Melbourne’s laneways and iconic sporting mecca, the Melbourne Cricket Ground, along with the state’s Aboriginal history and the Great Ocean Road’s famous 12 Apostles.
“Storytime is a great family tradition and we hope this book gives children from all around the world the opportunity to connect with loved ones virtually,” Visit Victoria CEO Brendan McClements said.
“While now is not the time travel, children have wonderful imaginations and this book allows people to dream of visiting Melbourne and Victoria one day.”
“The book is dedicated to our Victorian tourism operators who have shown outstanding resilience and innovation following both the bushfires and coronavirus pandemic.”
