~ If I am okay having it, you better be okay looking at it~
National, March 17, 2021: It is not uncommon to see people being criticized for having Grey locks. In a world where fashion has become very subjective and people are opting for ash and grey colors, we often see people being shamed for carrying Grey Hair. Several influencers and known faces have voiced out their opinions based on the same.
Delhi based influencer Pallavi Jha aka That Bonita Girl recently put up a video talking about the repetitive embarrassment caused to people due to grey hair. People are under constant pressure to hide it or find a legit excuse for it- whereas its as normal as having dark hair. There are several factors that leading to greying of hair- stress, dietary habits, smoking, lack of melanin or may be as simple as hereditary.
The video has reached almost 2Lakh views in less than 2 hours and is being circulated on social media. People with similar sentiments are voicing out their opinions on the same.

Talking about the video, Pallavi says “We are subjected to so much scrutiny every time a grey hair is visible. People try to cover it up with bands, caps and what not. Having Grey strands should be as common as having dark ones and no one should feel humiliated to carry themselves the way they are. Visit the salon, have a healthy diet, you are growing old already – are some of the comments that usually fly my way. This video was just an attempt to make people comfortable and let them know that everyone has it, and there should be no shame in carrying it.”
Many other renowned celebs have spoken on this topic before- be it Allison Janney on Ellen’s show, Ariana Grande or Neha Dhupia who has a lock of grey hair right from birth.
For men, back home, actors like Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan and model Milind Soman have been the torchbearers of sorts, sporting the salt-and-pepper look with élan. It was rare to see male celebs go grey in public, but these actors have changed that perspective. It leaves us to think: ‘If men are silver foxes, why are women hags?’
Pallavi is a 25-year-old lifestyle influencer from Delhi, who posts relatable videos and posts. Her feed is colorful and apt for anyone looking for real opinions.
