23 March 2021: Anjana Law OFFICES on Sunday 21st March 2021 organized an online awareness program on World Down Syndrome Day. As a part of social engineering following Covid restrictions, it was one of a kind google meet call to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day and to create awareness about it. People from different fields of works were invited to join and witness the awareness program.
The response from the community to join the program has been overwhelming and the event was made even more special and honored by the Honorary Chief Guest, State Disability Commissioner Bihar Dr. Shivajee Kumar addressing the participants and the families. Dr. Shivajee Kumar who has authored many books for the disabled and has been proactively and socially advocating making the law a reality.He spoke about the Down syndrome, its types, how it affects a person, and also pointed on the legalities faced. Hon'ble Commissioner also pointed out the various policies implementation initiatives undertaken under his leadership in his State.
Dr. Shivajee also congratulated and appreciated the work undertaken by Adv Anjana Sharma and her team for providing information, support, and advocating that.
Adv Anjana Sharma, founder of Anjana Law Offices practices in Supreme Court and various High Courts.. She was one of the panelists advocating the rights of such people who apprised the participants about law vs reality and human rights of down syndromes and also spoke about the concept of self-advocacy. Anjana Said: “come forward and to advocate such rights for god gifted people and has enabled people with Down syndrome to exercise their inherent rights as citizens and feel empowered to participate as active members of their communities”.
Among other Panelists were Internationally recognized Clinical psychotherapists, Counsellor, and Mental Wellness coach Aditi Sinha who spoke about her various experiences while working with these differently-abled children and counseling parents of such children. Her knowledge about Down's Syndrome is immense.
Dr. Anita Saran Doctor and professor of Dy Patil Medical College enlightened about prenatal prevention to be taken by ladies.
The event also was well attended by dignitaries and their sharing with special participation from Kodakkal Shivaprasad Chairman of Indian Divyang Association, Nirja Singh, Nagendra Pathak Social worker along with other guests and online participants
Adv Bhupendra Pathak of Anjana Law Offices said they were honored by the commissioner and panelists taking the time on a Sunday an evening to talk to the community at large and spread awareness recognizing that people with Down syndrome as an integral part of our society and achieve incredible successes each day.
