Building healthy habits is essential for achieving and maintaining long-term success when it comes to fitness. Staying fit seems tough. It requires you to take care of your diet and exercise. You need to take care of your mental well-being. You need to get tests done frequently and understand hundreds of parameters in those reports. There is just so much to process and understand. The external environment and modern consumerism are making things worse. Your life seems to be trapped in tracking calories, joining fancy workout classes, and finding healthy food options. It is advertised that you need to have all the latest health gadgets and trackers.

New fads come every day that promise to make you healthy overnight. Whether is a new magical diet plan, a workout routine, or an ancient food, promises to lose 10 Kg a month are made on social media now and then.

Why is habit-building important

As per him - People think about health only on occasion. If it’s your cousin’s wedding or if it’s the new year, the thought of getting fit will hit you. How to build healthy habits

Habit building is hard. But it is possible if you understand how your mind works. Sahil shares three ways to build healthy habits.

  1. Keep it Simple - Let’s be honest. In our busy lives, we don’t have time to spend a lot of time on fitness. If there is so much to do, we might not do it at all. Fitness has to be simplified. For example - try to acquire basic knowledge of how to read food labels and what few of those terms mean. Once you do it, you will not have to remember which packaged foods brands are healthy. Don’t run after every new workout routine. Instead, try to stay active as much as you can whether it is by doing household chores, brisk walking or taking the stairs.
  2. Take Baby Steps - Our mind resists change. If you take a resolution to start spending an hour in the gym every day starting tomorrow, it is a big change. Eventually, it would start feeling like a burden and cause stress. Introduce small healthy changes in your lifestyle. For example, if you are habitual to tea, start by reducing the amount of sugar in it. Eventually, plan to get rid of the sugar. Don’t get rid of things you love. Try to make them healthy. Similarly, find simpler ways to stay active and get better mentally.
  3. Take Action Today - We learn by doing. Rather than traditional approaches, make fitness fun. You don’t have to take fancy salads or soups to get fit. There are thousands of healthy yet tasty recipes available today. You don’t need to go to therapy to get better mentally. There are apps that can do it in a game-like environment. Instead of jogging every day, you can try outdoor activities and sports. It is not difficult today to engage in fun exercises even at home.

Sahil further added -‘Getting fit once is not hard’. Staying fit is. Technology has revolutionized the fitness industry already. It has made fitness more personalized, accessible and affordable. There are tools today that can help you identify specific areas where you lack. Disruptive technologies such as AI have the potential to pinpoint exactly what you need to do to get better. You can access the best programs in the world and follow them as per your convenience. You can subscribe to the best knowledge sources that are not brand-centric. Due to scale, these programs are not really expensive anymore.

Technology can act as an enabler in your fitness journey. You need to understand why it is important to look at fitness as a lifetime thing. You need to understand how your mind works and act accordingly.
