Mumbai: Team Shalom Blue emerged champions defeating Shalom United 1-0 in a tense and exciting final of the 1st Orlem Veterans Football League organized by Sportnicians - The Sports People and played at the Orlem Lawn Multipurpose Turf Ground, Malad.
The clash between the two Shalom outfits witnessed a keen contest as both sides went on the offensive from the start. But, the forwards were unable to convert the chances that came their way in the first session and the scoreboard remained blank at the break.
In the second session, the match continued in the same vein, before consistent goal-scorer Philip D’Souza cashed in on a gilt-edged opening to blast home the decisive winner midway through the second period to enable Shalom Blue snatch a close win and lift the title.
Prolific striker Philip D’Souza and Arvind Swar, both of Team Shalom Blue, won the Highest goal-scorer and Best goalkeeper awards respectively. The Player of the Tournament prize was awarded to Prakash Patil of Shalom United.
The champions Team Shalom Blue and runners-up Shalom United were presented with trophies, medals and gifts.
