Notebook is India’s first after-school digital learning portal. Schools get access to concise and engaging high-quality audio-visual teaching aids for classrooms, and students now have access to the same content on their personal devices so that they can study at their convenience. Since its commercial launch in September 2019, the Notebook app has been downloaded and used by more than 90,000 students from across India, and a number of schools have already started implementing Notebook videos in their classrooms.
However, beyond the commercial presence, Notebook exists to empower positive social change. The leadership at Notebook believes that universal access to high quality education is the only sustainable way to achieve social upliftment. To this end, Notebook has been proactively partnering with Government departments and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) across the globe.
Notebook has been in the process of implementing bilingual audio-visual based learning in Government schools in rural areas. For this project, Notebook is working closely with India’s largest education-focused NGO. Working in close conjunction with the NGO’s digital learning team, Notebook is in the process of designing a project for students studying in Government-run schools in rural areas. Students in State Board schools often hail from a social stratum where expensive e-Learning tools become unaffordable. However, it is essential to our development as a society to ensure inclusion of students in a high-quality education system across socio-economic strata. This project aims to serve precisely this purpose. Students in these schools will be provided with digital learning systems in a bilingual medium of instruction, so that learning can be made more relevant and effective.
Notebook is also engaged in dialogue with the Education departments of various countries, to digitize education in these countries. There are ongoing discussions with the governments in South Asia and GCC regions, and some other countries where the government is trying to serve different issues in their traditional education system through the distribution of digital content.
In December 2019, the Notebook leadership team was invited by the Abu Dhabi Government Media Office to meet with the Minister of Education and Knowledge to discuss how Notebook can add value to the Abu Dhabi school system. This was against the backdrop of the Formula 1 event in Abu Dhabi, and Notebook was the only Indian organization to be invited to this event, alongside representatives from countries in South Asia and GCC regions.
It is heartening to see that Notebook’s efforts in ensuring the highest standards of quality in educational content and meaningful student engagement on digital platforms receiving such recognition from various state and non-state actors, and it provides great impetus to the entire Notebook team to keep delivering unto its promise of affecting social change in a meaningful, sustainable and significant way.
