Mumbai’s Jasudben ML School ranks 2nd in ‘National Math Game-a-thon’ challenge by Prodigy

Prominent ICSE school—Jasudben ML School (JML)—in Khar, Mumbai, has secured the 2nd rank in the National Math Game-a-thon powered by Prodigy, a math video game. From JML school, 109 students of the sixth grade participated in the 12-day competition from 20th January to 31st January and solved more than 16342 maths questions within those 12 days

The Game-a-thon challenge involved students using the interface of Prodigy to participate in the math video game competition. With their personal IDs provided by the teachers to each student, they could participate and play using a web browser or the Prodigy App, which is available on both Android and iOS. The math competition challenge saw students unlocking levels and tackling ‘monsters’ by answering math questions. With every question answered, the monster would lose its health. Starting with relatively easy questions, as students proceeded to answer more questions, more levels unlocked that involved students to engage in higher-order thinking questions. Furthermore, winners were chosen based on their participation and the number of questions answered correctly in the 12 days of the competition.

However, due to the JML school exams commencing from 31st January 2022, many students found themselves unable to give time to participate in the Game-a-thon challenge towards the end of the competition. Even so, out of 109 students who participated, JML’s Dia Kamath (VI C) ranked 1st while Tristan D’souza (VI B) and Dia Gandhi (VI B) ranked 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Not only that but Ms Mitali Walvekar ranked 5th amongst the ‘Best Math Teachers.’

In addition to fostering a spirit of healthy competition, Prodigy’s Game-a-thon challenge successfully blended learning with entertainment amongst the students while also nurturing a love for math. The national competition saw participation from 22 schools all over India, including IQRA International School, CP Goenka International School, Sanjivani Academy, Cygnus World School, amongst several other notable names. While Blue Bells Public School, Gurugram ranked 1st, JBCN International School, Mumbai ranked 3rd.
