The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Museum (CSMVS) proudly concluded the first day of its internationally acclaimed exhibition, showcasing a diverse array of sculptures from eminent cultures, including Egypt, Assyria, Greece, Rome, and India. Among these treasures, the Adi Varaha Idol from the District Archaeological Museum, Vidisha, stood as the sole representative of Madhya Pradesh, captivating the attention and admiration of visitors from around the world.
The Adi Varaha Idol's allure lies in its profound connection to ancient Indian mythology as detailed in the Bhagavata-Purana and Mahabharata. Depicting Lord Vishnu's incarnation as Varaha, the idol portrays the divine act of rescuing the submerged Earth Goddess, symbolizing the triumph of good over adversity. Its historical and mythological significance makes it an invaluable cultural artifact, deeply embedded in the iconographic study of sculptures.
Throughout the exhibition's duration, the Adi Varaha Idol emerged as a focal point, drawing inquisitive gazes and sparking conversations among art enthusiasts and scholars. Its solitary representation from Madhya Pradesh highlighted its rarity and served as a testament to the rich heritage of the region.
Principal Secretary, Culture Department Mr. Sheo Shekhar Shukla (IAS) expressed "The Adi Varaha Idol holds a unique place in the realm of ancient sculptures, serving as a paragon of artistic excellence and cultural significance, The exhibition not only celebrated the artistic achievements of various civilizations but also offered a glimpse into the intricate narratives woven into each sculpture.
