250+ entries for state sub-junior badminton tourney


Mumbai, February 14th: Badminton Gurukul in partnership with the Tata group is gearing up to organize the inaugural State Open Sub-Junior Badminton Tournament 2020 at the District Sports Complex, Bandra East from 14th to 16th of February. The tournament saw a huge response receiving 250+ entries across various age categories. 
The tournament which will see boys and girls competing in the singles in the age groups of U-11 to U-15 has seen participation from some of the top junior players like Pranay Shettigar who recently won GMBA Tournament , Siya Singh who emerged victorious in the MSSA tournament, Jayden Norohna (Boys U-11), Angad Tathgir and Vedika Kulkarni (Boys & Girls U-13) to name a few.
When asked about the initiative, Supriya Devgun, Founder & Managing Director, Badminton Gurukul said,” Badminton Gurukul is a humble initiative through which we aim to spread the importance of physical literacy in the country. This tournament brings together the budding badminton superstars of our state. Badminton Gurukul remains committed to ensuring a sustained long-term growth by raising the profile of the sport."
 Mr Harish Bhat, Brand Custodian, Tata Sons, said "Tata Group has always been at the forefront to encourage young sports talent in our country. We truly believe sports play a very important role in the overall development of the community especially children, and we are happy to contribute to the development of young badminton talent across the country through our partnership with Badminton Gurukul."

Suraj Samat, Managing Committee member, District Sports Club, BKC, said,” we are very proud to host the State Open Sub-junior Badminton Tournament. Our aim is to provide a platform and a facility for the young champions of our country to showcase their talent. It is a proud moment for us and the beginning of an exciting association with Badminton Gurukul. "
The tournament will be conducted under the auspices of the Maharashtra Badminton Association and Greater Mumbai Badminton Association and the semi-finalists and finalists will receive exciting goodies as prizes.
