Mumbai, 09th December 2020: HSNC University inaugurates the first university school of Data Science and Business Analytics. The newly-operational state cluster now offers a degree programme in Data Science and Business Analytics, that addresses the contemporary needs of the industry and equip learners with the latest technological solutions and analytical skills in the field of data science.
With this course, HSNC University comprising of Mumbai's finest colleges; has become the very first university that offers such an opportunity at the undergraduate level. It emphasizes both theory and modern applications of Data Science and Business analytics and is structured to provide in-depth knowledge as well as the skills necessary for employability of students. Recognizing these changing times, varsity has started the programme spanning over three years from the present academic year 2020-21, under the able leadership of visionary leaders - Provost Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Panjwani and Principal of KC College Dr. Hemlata Bagla.
Ecstatic to announce the new courses, Dr. Hemlata Bagla, Principal of K. C. College and Sr. Dean, Sc & Tech, HSNC University said, “It is for the very first time that students will get a scope to thoroughly and comprehensively learn data science and business analytics as first degree. Additionally, for those who wish to continue their studies in the same field, HSNC University, Mumbai also aims to start a postgraduate degree programme in data science in the near future. The master’s programme will help the students learn research and analytical skills in more details.”
The course of study unveils with a 2-week intensive induction programme started for newly admitted students. The speakers in this induction programme include Mr. Mukesh Jain (Chief Technology & Innovation Officer, Capgemini), Mr. Amit Jadhav (Data Scientist, Allure Tech LLC, Canada), Dr. Anand Sharma (Consultant Medical Oncologist, Mount Vernon Cancer Centre & Lister Hospital, UK), Mr. Pranit Dalvi (Managing Director, ARC Group of Industries), Mr. Shaunak Sirodaria (Business Analyst, GENPACT, Bangalore) and many such related industry experts.
Indicating the importance of data science in emerging business practices, Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani, Provost - HSNC University explained saying – “Data, in all its forms, has been around for a long time but using this data to improve efficiency and productivity in business, is what makes a Data Analyst. This is an emerging market that has huge potential for corporate investments and business-related activities, thus offering numerous employment opportunities to students. Data Analytics emphasizes upon both traditional and modern applications of Data Science and Business Analytics and is structured to provide knowledge and skills that are necessary for the industry. Since the university school has a tie-up with about 100+ companies, students will get relevant placement opportunities during the completion of their degree.”
The course is open for students from various educational backgrounds – Arts, Science and Commerce. To bring them all on the same platform at the beginning of the academia, in addition to the induction programme, the university has also introduced bridge courses- in Mathematics & Statistics and in Communication. Decoding the strategic idea of this educational programme, Dr. Hiranandani further adds, “This exclusive addition will help the students acquire the knowledge essential to start with the blended schedule. While pursuing their degree, students will be given an opportunity to work on various industry-related projects and the programme will end with a compulsory 3 months’ internship. We have made sure that learners get the best faculty and provisions to implement their learnings. The focus is to prepare students with clear, concise concepts to transform them into proficient experts adding value to the organization or sector they join.”
The university aims to take the legacy of three constituent colleges - HR College, KC College and BTTC forward, and emerge as a centre for inclusive and integrated learning which will help students achieve their dreams. Further, with the new addition of courses the University aims at endorsing India as a global hub of education by adapting the multidisciplinary aspects from countries around the globe.
