Tanya Shanker launches “Gone Girl” to celebrate World Environment Day – 5 June 2021

World Environment Day is celebrated annually every year on the 5th of June. It began in the year 1974 as an initiative to raise awareness and act against practices that harm our ecosystems. As her contribution on this day, Tanya Shanker, the teen music prodigy from Bangalore, has written a song called Gone Girl. The lyrics exemplify how Humans conflict with the environment. The song is a conversation between the humans, Mother Nature and Tanya and what she can do to save our planet.

Gone Girl - LYRICS
Our world's not lethal
Won't cut you with a knife
We fought against evil
Till it turned to us inside
We have no excuse, for reaping the surface dry
It's sad we pretended
We weren't losing our minds
The clues we left behind
To remind us how we'll die
We choose to ignore that the truth remains untold
We're gone girl, gone girl, gone with the wind
We're gone girl, gone girl, don't forget how we sinned
We split blood on the floor as we slit her throat
We're gone girl, gone girl, gone with the wind
All by Herself now in this
Blazing, burning room
The walls keep melting
And we're heading to our doom
Death curls around Her, squeezing into Her veins
The words She told me
Still ringing in my brain
"Goodbye forever
It was great to have you here
Wake up from your slumber, and learn to treat me right."

Chorus x2
It's not too late now for us
to make amends
I plead to mankind
Change how the story ends
