March 5, 2022, Mumbai: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, a virtual panel discussion will be hosted by leading child rights organization Child Rights and You (CRY) where women leaders will interact with young girls, across various socio-economic backgrounds on overcoming societal and personal challenges for a better future.
The discussion ‘Rising Against All Odds – Celebrating Our Women of Tomorrow’ is aimed at educating and empowering girls to envision a better future for themselves. The event brings together women leaders of today from diverse fields with young girls on a single platform to share, discuss, ideate and highlight solutions that can help create the women leaders of tomorrow.
The online event is graced by a panel of India’s prominent women icons/role models namely Anusha Srinivasan Iyer, Journalist, Writer-Director, Brand Strategist and Egalitarian Earth Activist, Actor Maanvi Gagroo, Reena Puri, Executive Editor, Amar Chitra Katha, Meghna Peer, CMO- India and South Asia, Newell, Komal Hiranandani, Founder – Dolce Vee and Aparna Sundaresaran, Deputy Editor, Tinkle and Kena Shree, Author, Poet and Storyteller.
The women will interact with girls from across the country who will share with the panellists their stories of perseverance, grit and determination in COVID times and the lockdown.
The initiative is also enabled for women to share their stories with the young girls on what has made their journey possible, and how they overcame hurdles to follow their dreams.

“We are indeed thankful to all the panellists in joining conversations wherein women have led from the front while addressing crisis situations, both at home and in the external world, during the COVID years,” Puja added.

“There are many girls in our country who continue to battle misconceptions even today. I am glad to be a part of CRY’s platform to interact with these young minds in order to understand and know that we all need to work together if we want women to soar high,” said Reena Puri.
“Conversations like these need to go beyond Women’s Day. We need to create an ecosystem for women, particularly young girls wherein they are free to have a voice, and to make their own decisions,” said Kena Shree.
“I am inspired that CRY has been taking steps like this to see that the voices of girls and women are being heard, irrespective of the background they come from. I congratulate CRY and wish them well in their efforts to empower young girls,” says Maanvi Gagroo.
“I applaud the courage shown by these girls to come forward and speak about their challenges, and their dreams. We women need to stick together to see that no girl gets left behind,” said Komal Hiranandani.
“All sections of the society need to come together to work for the betterment not only of the society but also girls in particular, and for this I applaud CRY for coming up with such an initiative,” said Meghna Peer.

Kena Shree is an author, poet and storyteller and works as Deputy General Manager (Human Resources) in NTPC Limited, the Govt. of India. Komal Hiranandani has an MSc in Applied Economics & Management from Cornell University, LLB (General Law) from Mumbai University and BA with Honours in Government from Georgetown University. Her previous professional experience includes working as an environmental policy analyst at a Washington DC based research and advocacy group, working on a project to build toilets in slum communities with a Special Project Officer at the Bombay Municipal Corporation, as Programme Officer at Asia Society, and as Senior Associate at IDFC Institute, a think-tank set up by IDFC Ltd. As an economist, her research focused on urbanisation and development in India. With roots in the development sector for over 22 years, beginning from when she was a student, she founded Dolce Vee with the conviction that market-based approaches are key to large-scale and lasting positive social impact. Aparna Sundaresaran is the Deputy Editor of Tinkle, India’s pioneering publication of comics for children. She writes and edit stories for Tinkle’s flagship magazine and its various other titles. She is also the co-host of Tinkle Game Show, a quiz show that streams on YouTube.
