[Mumbai, 26.09.2023] – ISS India, a leading provider of integrated facility services along with the Indo-Danish Business Association (IDBA), played host to delegates from Denmark and India under the esteemed presence of the Danish Ambassador to India, H.E. Freddy Svane and Minister Counsellor & Head of Trade & Commercial Affairs, Mr. Søren Nørrelund Kannik-Marquardsen for a strategic discussion on the India-Danish partnership geared towards a sustainable and net-zero carbon built environment.
The India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership represents a momentous stride towards a greener and more prosperous future. This ambitious initiative aims to bolster political cooperation, expand economic relations, and promote green growth, job creation, and collaboration in addressing global challenges and opportunities.
Aksh Rohatgi CEO & Country Manager, ISS Facility Services India Private Limited highlighted the importance of environmental and social sustainability for a better future and presented some examples of the projects undertaken by ISS to ensure and promote green transition. Talking about the importance of it in the corporate as well as social setup, he said, “Sustainability is a key component of the OneISS Strategy with focus on climate action, healthy spaces and inclusive spaces. With an ambition to create sustainable workplaces, we execute all our strategies through both environmental and social lenses and implement the same with different initiatives.
To ensure social sustainability, we have different programs like Education for All, Integrated Career Path, focus on Diversity & Inclusion, Family Suraksha Plan, and other initiatives that ensure growth for All. We also consider the environment as a key element while charting out our strategy and have implemented projects like Pure Space Office, SMART Meters, Daylight Harvesting, tree plantation and also believe in collaborating with other corporates to ensure maximum positive impact.
Talking about the importance of the India-Danish partnership in achieving the sustainability goals, he stated, "The two economies when brought together can achieve significant sustainability goals and foster each other’s potential in the journey towards green transition. Denmark is a global leader in several niche technologies that are highly relevant to India and India has already marked a place for itself as a visionary towards sustainability."
Bente Toftkaer, General Manager, DIBD OMII Consulting Pvt. Ltd. (Confederation of Danish Industry) led the discussion on “How to engage the private sector and establish a healthy business case for the green transition – a collaboration between Indian Green Building Council and Confederation of Danish Industry”. The discussion also focused on the establishment of Danish-Indian partnerships to create centers of excellence dedicated to promoting sustainability.
Sara Petrycer Hansen Director, The Mentor to Impact Association elaborated on the Mentor to Impact Program which is focused on Establishing Danish-Indian Partnerships to Create Green Centers of Excellence. She talked about the significance of skilling to ensure progress and relevance in the green transition.
Taking the discussion forward, Mads Schlosser Director, Indo Danish Chamber of Commerce emphasized how IDCC enables Danish companies with business in India by providing the best learning experiences.
Acknowledging the importance of collective action, Aksh Rohatgi further said, "With the Green Strategic Partnership, India and Denmark have chosen each other as preferred partners in the journey towards a green transition. Some of the key Areas that need focus include renewable energy, water, waste management, agriculture and animal husbandry, food processing, shipping, environment, sustainable urbanization, and labor mobility. Beyond our joint efforts in above area, this partnership also represents our mutual commitment to integrating environmental sustainability into people and workplace strategies. This strategic partnership is aligned with these priorities. For the partnership to succeed, we need a sustained commitment from businesses in both India and Denmark to collaborate and contribute toward our shared goals.”
As a testament to this commitment, ISS India also showcased their new headquarters, running on 100% green power, a beacon for the future of sustainable workspaces featuring more than 50 technological innovations.
The gathering witnessed the participation of over 50 influential leaders. The discussions and commitments made during this meeting marked a significant step forward in the India-Danish partnership for building a sustainable and net-zero carbon built environment.
