Shahid Bilakhia, Micro Life Sciences wins EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award in Life Sciences and Healthcare category

  • Vellayan Subbiah wins the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2023 Award
  • Natarajan Chandrasekaran awarded the Special Jury Award and Venu Srinivasan conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award
  • EOY Winners also announced in six other Award categories

Mumbai, 24 February 2024: At a glittering celebration of entrepreneurship, Micro Life Sciences (Meril) Founding Member, Shahid Bilakhia, won the EY Entrepreneur of the Year ‘Lifesciences and Healthcare’ 2023 Award.

The eminent nine-member jury, led by KV Kamath, former Chairman of ICICI Bank, selected Shahid for his vision to reduce India’s import dependence on medical devices through investments in R&D and innovation. Under his leadership, Meril has grown at a CAGR of 55% in revenues over the last two years, reaching Rs 2,300 crores in FY23 and recording industry leading EBITDA margins of 35%.

Additionally, Micro Life Sciences has become one of the first Indian companies to domestically manufacture novel, clinically relevant and state-of-the-art products.  Today the company offers the widest range of medical solutions in the form of vascular intervention devices, orthopaedic implants, robotics, endo-surgery, ENT products, and in-vitro diagnostics, making it the largest medical devices company in India. Having attained market leadership in India, Shahid is now competing with global giants in 100-plus countries including the US and other regulated markets.

The Chief Guest, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Railways, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology, felicitated Shahid Bilakhia and other winners including: the EOY 2023 winner, Vellayan Subbiah, Special Jury Award winner, N Chandra, Venu Srinivasan, the lifetime achievement award winner.

The EOY 2023 category winners include: Lalit Keshre, Co-founder, Groww for Start-up category; Sanjay Gupta of APL Apollo Tubes Ltd. for ManufacturingAnand Deshpande of Persistent Systems in Services category; Rafique A. Malik, Chairman, Metro Brands Ltd. for Consumer Products and RetailDeepinder Goyal of Zomato in Business Transformation category; Team ICICI Bank (CEO, Sandeep Bakhshi and Executive Directors - Sandeep Batra, Rakesh Jha) for Entrepreneurial CEO category.

Vellayan Subbiah, Chairman, Cholamandalam Finance and Executive Vice Chairman, Tube Investments of India was awarded the esteemed EY Entrepreneur of the Year™ Award 2023 (EOY)Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, was conferred the Special Jury Award for his outstanding leadership of the Tata Group and contributions to nation-building. The 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Venu Srinivasan, Chairman Emeritus of TVS Motor Company, was recognized for his decades of entrepreneurial excellence in revolutionizing the two-wheeler industry in India.

 

The EOY 2023 winners and finalists collectively represent an impressive revenue of INR 14.7 lakh crore and employ over 12.5 lakh people in India and globally. The 2023 Jury, apart from Jury Chair KV Kamath, included Falguni Nayar, Founder and CEO, Nykaa; Sanjiv Bajaj, Chairman and MD, Bajaj Finserv; Dilip Shanghvi, MD, Sun Pharmaceuticals; Sajjan Jindal, Chairman, JSW Group, Sunish Sharma, Managing Partner and Founder, Kedaara Capital; Ranjan Pai, Chairman, Manipal Group; Shailendra Singh, MD, Peak XV Partners, and Gaurav Trehan, CEO, KKR India.

25th Anniversary of EY EOY India Awards
