Unlocking Expertise: Medica hosts ‘Advanced Course on Hand Surgery’ for medical professionals in Eastern India

 
                            

Kolkata, 23rd February 2024: The Department of Orthopaedics at Medica Superspecialty Hospital, the leading private hospital chain in Eastern India, announced an upcoming workshop titled "Advanced Course on Hand Surgery." This comprehensive two-day event is being organized in collaboration with the Indian Society for Surgery of the Hand (ISSH) and the West Bengal Orthopaedic Association (WBOA) and will take place at Medica Superspecialty Hospital. Dr. Vikash Kapoor, Vice Chairman, Medica Group of Hospitals, Group Director – Orthopaedics, Robotic Joint Replacement Surgeon & Arthroscopic Specialist Orthopaedic Science and Dr. Anirban Chatterjee, Senior Consultant, Hand & Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon & Faculty – DNB Orthopedics, Medica Institute of Orthopaedic Sciences, Medica Superspecialty Hospital, provided insights of the workshop during today's session at the hospital. Scheduled to take place on 24th and 25th February, the course will feature a blend of didactic lectures, pre-recorded videos, and interactive discussions tailored to facilitate effective adult learning. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on workshops using saw bone models and porcine specimens, allowing for practical skill enhancement under guidance of experienced hand surgeons. Distinguished guest faculty members include Prof. Bhaskarananda Kumar, recognized as a "Pioneer in Hand Surgery" by the International Federation of Hand Surgeons, along with Prof. Anil Bhat (Head, Department of Hand Surgery & Associate Dean from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal), and Prof. Sanjay Giri (Department of Plastic Surgery - AIIMS – Bhubaneshwar). They will be joined by a team of expert local hand surgeons to provide comprehensive guidance throughout the workshop.

Recognizing the critical need for effective hand care, our department has established a robust unit dedicated to the treatment of hand problems, diseases, deformities, and trauma. To raise awareness and enhance medical expertise in this area, we have partnered with the West Bengal Orthopaedic Association and the Indian Society of Hand Surgeons. Together, we aim to educate medical professionals about the importance of specialized hand treatment and the advanced techniques available.” 

Dr. Anirban Chatterjee, expressed, “This workshop on hand surgery serves as a valuable platform for medical professionals to enhance their understanding and proficiency in managing hand injuries. The advanced hand surgery workshop is aimed to equip our aspiring physicians in the specialty of hand surgery within the umbrella of orthopaedics with essential knowledge about new age techniques and specialized treatment, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation. We expect more than 50 registrations by aspiring surgeons over the course of two-days.”
