Receiving recognition for one's hard work is an exhilarating moment for anyone. Acclaimed actor Rituparna Sengupta recently added another achievement to her illustrious career by winning not one, but two prestigious awards, alongside the legendary Sharmila Tagore, for their film Puratawn. Rituparna was honored with the 'Best Actress' and 'Best Film' awards at the DC South Asian Film Festival. Following this success, both Rituparna and Sharmila Tagore were invited to the 'India International Film Festival of Boston' for a special screening, where Sharmila ji was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Sharmila Tagore's daughter, Saba Ali Khan Pataudi, also graced the event in Boston, and the three of them had an amazing time exploring various topics together.
Veteran actor Sharmila Tagore returns to Bengali cinema after a 14-year hiatus, starring alongside Rituparna Sengupta in the Bengali film Puratawn, directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Suman Ghosh. The film delves into deep emotional themes and centers around the poignant relationship between a mother and daughter, portrayed by Tagore and Rituparna. Indraneil Sengupta plays the role of the son-in-law. The film is being produced under Rituparna’s banner, Bhavna Aaj O Kal. 'Puratawn' is a film where three National Award winners – Rituparna, Sharmila, and Suman – are working together.
Speaking of the achievement, an emotional Rituparna shared, "I am overwhelmed by the response the film is already receiving, and I am beyond grateful to receive this prestigious award alongside a legendary actor like Sharmila Tagore. It was a great honor to be part of this film, especially working with Sharmila ji, and to be recognized for my contribution. I learned so much from her during the shoot, and I cherished every moment working together. Not only professionally, but we also share a wonderful personal bond. She is, and will always be, my favorite."
Rituparna Sengupta’s much-anticipated film Puratawn is being showcased in various international markets, including the European Film Market, which runs alongside the Berlinale. It is set for release across India and globally soon. The film has also been selected for the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival under the Special Gala Screening category. "Puratawn is already creating a ripple effect and gaining global recognition, and I believe Indian audiences will be captivated by the depth and authenticity of the characters and will fall in love with them," Rituparna added.
