Aadyam Season 5 Kicks Off With a Courtroom Drama Come July, Aaron Sorkin’s masterpiece to light up the stages of Mumbai and Delhi under the direction of Nadir Khan Mumbai, 21st June 2019: A murder, two suspects, an indifferent lawyer, and honour, code, and loyalty above all—the 5th leg of the Aditya Birla Group helmed initiative, Aadyam, kick-starts with a rendition of Aaron Sorkin’s renowned play, A Few Good Men, in some of the best-known theatre venues in both Mumbai and Delhi - Mumbai's St. Andrew's Auditorium and Jamshed Bhabha Theatre, and Delhi's Kamani Auditorium. The play will be directed by theatre polymath Nadir Khan, who has previously directed an adaptation of the classic film,Twelve Angry Men, under the aegis of Aadyam. A script that has gained worldwide acclaim for its 1992 Academy Award-nominated movie adaptation directed by Rob Reiner, A Few Good Men is inspired by true events, depicting a courtroom drama that follows the trial of two US Navy mariners accused of murdering one of their own. The story highlights the inherent flaw of a system that rewards following orders ‘no-questions-asked’, and the potential culpability of those executing the orders. It makes for a gripping play that has enthralled audiences ever since it was first produced on Broadway by David Brown in 1989. Aadyam’s version of this riveting military drama has Nadir Khan directing an ensemble cast including Rajit Kapur who plays Lt. Col. Nathan Jessep, Neil Bhoopalam as Ly. Jg. Daniel A. Kaffee, Ira Dubey as the persistent lawyer Lt. Cmdr. Joanne Galloway, Danish Hussain, Ashwin Mushran, Tavish Bhattacharya, Junaid Khan, Sukant Goel, Kenny Desai, Siddharth Kumar, Suresh Venkat, Sahir Mehta, Zeus Paranjape, and Rohit Dandwani. Nadir Khan, Director of this production says, “5 years in a row with Aadyam is pressure enough! And when you're doing a text as iconic as this one, you better make sure you've got a cracking cast to match Sorkin's superb writing. Thankfully, we've managed that. Really looking forward to getting this one up and running!” Shernaz Patel, Artistic Director of Aadyam said, “Aadyam Season 5 launches with this high stakes, brilliantly crafted, sharp military drama. It’s a world that we have not often seen on the Indian stage. What’s especially great about the play is that even though it speaks about big issues like what constitutes honour and the “goodness” of men, issues we are all grappling with today, it is written with abundant humour and wit. It’s a taut court martial story, it’s fast paced, allows for intricate staging and has beautifully etched characters. In the hands of Nadir Khan who has wowed us every year with his exceptional direction of iconic plays like Twelve Angry Jurors and Sing India Sing, and this brilliant ensemble cast it’s undoubtedly going to be a fabulous theatre experience.” A Few Good Men opens at St. Andrews Auditorium on 20th July 2019, tickets for which are available on Paytm and Insider.in.
