AGP World’s ‘Good Mourning!’ To Mark New Innings For Deven Khote & Kavi Shastri

AGP World, synonymous with world-class theatre, high-end designer experiences, talent management, and curated art events for over 25 years, has announced a brand-new English theatre production --- ‘GOOD MOURNING!’
This the 75-minute-long dark comedy features an outstanding ensemble cast: Badho Bahu-famed Ryatasha Rathore; stand-up comedienne and former VJ (of Lola Kutty fame) Anuradha Menon; Sohrab Ardeshir, who has performed extensively in the US and in India for over 4 decades; Zafar Karachiwala , prolific tv, film and theatre actor over the last fifteen years; noted English, Hindi and Marathi actor Aseem Hattangady, and rising stars of the stage and web, Omkar Kulkarni and Danny Sura.
The play will be premiered on the 23rd and 24th of August 2019 at Sophia Bhabha Auditorium & St. Andrews respectively.
The play is the mainstream directorial debut of Deven Khote, himself a theatre veteran; better known for his hugely successful career as an advertising, tv and feature film director and producer, and founding Director of UTV. On the other hand, British film and television actor Kavi Shastri, writer of numerous films and television productions, currently heading content development at Vir Das's Weirdass Comedy, will be helming his first solo venture as a writer in the theatre world - the backbone of his entire career- with this play.
Ashvin Gidwani, Producer, AGP World states, “I commissioned Kavi to write the play for AGP World because we are keen on original writing which can follow our vision of producing work for the global market. Post that, I got him together with Deven and the two of them immediately conspired to churn out this heady concoction of comedy and drama. Now how can possibly I not back a project that will be a success in the short to long term? Producer Hu!”
Deven Khote states, “The genesis of ‘Good Mourning!’ is a surreal, alcohol-soaked evening spent with friends many years ago, trying to console one of our group who had just lost his father. When Kavi and I got together on this project, we were honestly headed in a completely different direction; when I casually recounted the evening to him, he just went crazy, and created this gem virtually overnight! It’s really terrific writing; wickedly funny, multi-layered and meaningful, with an eclectic group of thoroughly identifiable characters… It’s completely mad, but somehow, completely real. And with our incredible team – and Ashvin backing it – it’s honestly a dream debut vehicle!”
Kavi Shastri states, “This is my first outing as a solo writer for the Stage. ‘Good Mourning!’ is one of the most amazing journeys of discovery I have had about myself. It definitely unlocked parts of my mind I didn’t know existed.
‘Good Mourning!’ is a play that brings you a lighter side of something far more serious. The characters as based on my observation of people I have met in life and an extension of that. Mourning doesn’t always need to be somber and in silence... in life sometimes Good Mourning is the key to having a Good Morning in the days to come.
Expect a drop-dead laughathon - replete with quick wit, multi-layered character role play, funny asides, brilliant repartee and of course, a huge dose of humour.
SYNOPSIS
How would you react if your partner fell out of a first-floor window and died?
Well, ask Laila…
And who actually falls from a first-floor window and dies?
Well, you can’t ask Rahul, he just did…
In the aftermath of tragedy and loss, friends and family become your pillars of strength. Unless, of course, you happen to be Laila and Rahul’s friends and family… in which case, all hell could break loose, and does!
When our quirky group gathers to offer Laila support, the heady mix of grief and alcohol can only bring about suspicion and doubt. Emotions bubble, tempers flare, outrageous accusations are unabashedly hurled, and the true relationships between the mourners and the deceased are examined and laid bare. What was intended as an evening of solace soon degenerates into acrimony, dark comedy, and farce…
Was it an accident or was it suicide? Did Rahul fall or did he jump? And who, or what, should be held responsible? What actually happened?
Join Laila and her friends and relatives as they muddle through the mystery behind Rahul’s untimely death in the most ridiculously inappropriate ways, and stumble to reconciliation, closure, and the acceptance of their loss…
Or do they?
